Jake Jordan It's not so bad, so long as you find something you enjoy doing, and/or find somewhere you enjoy working. No job is ever worth waking up every morning, dreading to go to work. Does that mean I should stay at the store? I mean I love it there, hell I don't think any of my previous jobs were as fun as this one. I mean, yeah customers suck sometimes, but then they rock sometimes too.
Course I did ask to find out what it takes to move on up.

I think it depends on what you want. Honestly, this is the first job I've had in which I intend to pursue a career. I make decent money, get great benefits, love the company and the folks I work with, and know there's plenty of room to move up the ladder down the road.
If those weren't there this would just be another job. But that's just me. I doubt anyone wants to work with customers for longer than they have to, and for me at least, I'd have to know that there will be a time when I won't have to anymore. It's a personal decision.

I definitely couldn't stay at Panera Bread for the rest of my life, but that's expected. I'm a twenty-year-old college student. This isn't a career.
I need to think of what I want to do afterwards, though. I'd love to work in a library somewhere. I've done it before, and loved the hell out of it.
What I really want to do is write for a living, but Real World Career has to come first. I refuse to be the "Living in New York/LA chasing pipe dreams" guy.
Step one is just getting out of North Carolina, and that will be to wherever I can get a job.

That's true. I mean I have half a Web Design degree and a few years in various retail. Not like I want to stay there my whole life. Gawd no. But I have yet to find anything I really want to settle down doing.

Yeah, definitely. I have a friend who worked at a local library for a while, and LOVED it. Now she works at The Library of Congress. It seems like a great place for a writer to work.
It's weird how life ends up working out. I didn't think much of the job I have now when I first got it. Didn't even drink coffee. In working here tho, I've found that it's someting that I can be passionate about, and it's turning out to be more of a career than I thought.
Forrest Gump was right.

I have grown strangely attached to Panera. I like my regular customers, and I'm friendlier with them than I am when I go to parties and such. I don't hate going in, and I get along with all my co-workers. I even care about the place. I never thought I'd be proud of working in food service. But I sometimes boast about how our store has the highest catering income of all Paneras in the country. I actually want it to do well.
My last job I just waited for closing. It always comes earlier than expected now.

That's great! I'm very much of the philosophy that life is too short to have a job you hate. 3nodding

And then there's me, who's wanted to get my current job for years because I love coffee and tea. Also making them.
