Ah. Very few people even knew EB-Games existed these days. EB-Games was bought out by Gamestop, but I used to use EB before they got bought out. Years infact. Truth be told? I prefer Gamestop. I used to have so many problems with EB games all the time - especially when they'd say the reason the game wasn't workin' was somehow my fault, or that I put the scratches on the disc myself and wouldn't refund or even trade out. That crap stopped with Gamestop, and I haven't had to go back to tell 'em a disc wasn't workin' in yearrrrsssss.
As for the hit and miss work, I guess it sorta makes sense. It's kinda like being a freelance reporter. I have the same problem with my side jobs - whenever somethin' starts lookin' up suddenly all of the work just dies out. It really is irritating...
Places to buy video games new in NZVideo game stores - EB Games
Electronic stores - JB Hi Fi, d**k Smiths, Bond & Bond, Harvey Norman etc.
Other - The Warehouse, K Mart ( both essentially Walmart type stores), Mighty Ape (kinda like Amazon), online and rare small businesses.
Seriously, unless you're lucky to have a small business dedicated to selling video games around here, you've really only got ONE dedicated video game store you can go to and that's EB because usually the gaming staff everywhere else except Mighty Ape are terrible.
I went into d**k Smiths before christmas to ask on pricing for Sleeping Dogs and was told by one of the staff "We're an electronics store not a pet shop." I walked out and haven't been back since.
Admittedly I think EB Games isn't going to be around down here much longer.
See, my boyfriend got his job not just because he's a really good writer/reviewer, but because his family had a friend at one of NZ's major electronics distribution companies Monaco.
A little while back, EB Games weren't paying their bill with Monaco and essentially screwed them over to the point that Monaco had to close their video game section for good.
Since then EB Games haven't been doing too well and rumor has it that they're going to be closing quite a few stores including my local one.
One of the annoying things about EB Games is that because of their Gamestop ownership, they practically have the monopoly on collectors / special / limited editions.
It's very rare for someone like Mighty Ape or JB Hi Fi to get them. Which sucks because it means that for a lot of the games my boyfriend and I want we're sorta forced into going there when we'd rather be supporting our local small business gaming store Livewire.
I work in the manufacturing and installation of visual display products... Namely in its customer services and estimation/tendering side. I'd love to say my job is secure, but with the way things have been going for the business I'm at lately I question how much longer we're going to last.
