"Wouldn't those be cool photos to have, though? Your seal friends might feel comfortable enough to come!" His voice showed how suddenly excited he was. It would be nice to reunite Maia with the seals she'd lived with for so many years!
"Yup. It's a big place. It takes forever to get an appointment, but I think you'd like it. You and Dari could have a field day." He smiled. "It's in New York City."

Maia hadn't considered that. She smiled at the thought. "Yeah," she said. "They might. And they'd be safe with us. People lost interest in my beach a while ago." They'd probably made the video out to be a hoax.
She paused, raising an eyebrow in surprise. "You want to go to New York for a wedding dress?" she asked.

"Of course they have. People are fickle and we may or may not have planted a few stories here and there. Yenno. Like we do," he said with a laugh.
"It's--" He laughed again, "Klienfelds is a big deal! They even have a TV show based out of it!"

"So you distracted them," Maia smiled gratefully. That first week after the video had taken storm had brought everyone and their brother to her beach.
"Is it?" Maia was surprised. "A tv show?" And he was willing to book an appointment there? "Alright." She kissed his cheek. "Dari'll help me pick something you'll like, since you won't tell me."

"Distracted and misled, yeah," he said with a smile, then leaned into the cheek kiss.
"Don't worry. Because of my job they won't put you on TV." He reached up now and fiddled with her hair. "Yeah, he'll be a good help. You can bring who ever you want to, too. Do you want to just go with Dari or do you want me to come too?" He wouldn't mind staying behind so she could have a special few days with her friend.

"Good. I normally wouldn't approve of lying," she teased. But when it came to the safety of animals, it people... It was different.
"Oh, good. I didn't want to end up on tv. You should come!" Maia had never been anywhere big without Toby; not since she'd met him.

"No no no. It's tradition. I can't see you in your dress until you walk down the aisle!" Down the aisle with... who? She had no father, and neither did he. Would she walk alone? He was smart enough to not let his smile falter. "Why don't you and Dari go? You can have a special vacation for a few days."

Tradition? Oh! Was that the tradition if broken, there'd be bad luck in a marriage? Or was that the one where she had to wear certain things?
Maia looked a bit uncertain. "Alright," She agreed, kissing his cheek.

Toby wrapped his arms around Maia the best he could and kissed her on the mouth.
"It'll be fun. Dari's never been to New York out of disguise. You'll get some of his firsts! Plus I'll always have my phone with me."

"Love, I don't need a wedding gift. You're my wedding gift," he said with a grin. He and Dari would have to discuss a budget. Dari was the research king. Toby personally had no idea how much dresses cost nowadays. He remembered when college only cost a few thousand dollars...
He kissed Maia again, with an exaggerated "MUAH" sound. "I love you too!"

She returned the kiss, and grinned. "Are you excired, love?"

It had been a long day; not one of those horrible depressing ones, but one where Lori had either been in class or staring at a computer screen for the entire day. His eyes were sore. He just wanted to get home.
When he finally did, he stood in the doorway and peeled off his jacket and tie right there, then bent to undo his shoes.

Luca had taken to the kitchen while Lori was at work; baking things, attempting to cook... Most things he'd attempted were horrors. These cookies seemed to turn out all right. They looked right, despite the burnt edge. "Lori, are you home?" he asked cheerfully. "I made cookies."
