Off Topic request for personal help: So, I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but I have a bit of a dilemma. I haven't really shown very much of my Character Designs or Fashion/costume designs to any of you... so I don't know how much advice you'll be able to provide on the subject. You guys are amazing though, and always seem to be able to help, so I'll share. I officially want to change majors after sitting in on this principles of 3D modeling class. I've looked over the required classes for my major multiple times and they're all focused around 3D Modeling and actual Game Design and animation rather than Game Art and the concept work behind games. Since I want to be a concept artist [specifically character designer], I don't want to stay in this major where I won't be able to put my drawing abilities to use and where I'll have to struggle to learn how to do things I don't enjoy. The point of getting a career in art is to enjoy what you do for a living, so this major just isn't suiting me. My dilemma is: I don't know what to switch to. I've been thinking it would make sense to switch into Media Arts and Animation, because it focuses on the 2D art, and actual drawing, but there still isn't a lot of classes that will be teaching me how to get better at drawing. They're more about how to animate, and now to use things like Flash for creating cartoons/movie/other animation. Sure, I might get to draw more, but I won't really be learning how to improve my skill. The other option I've been contemplating is switching into Fashion Design. I love sewing, I love fashion, I love costume design.. I know I'll be able to learn how to make and edit patterns, I know I'll learn how to improve my sewing skills, and I'll be able to take some costume design and fashion illustration classes. I just don't really know if I have enough of a design sense to create my own clothes. Or where I would find work as a costume designer.. then again I still don't know where I would fins work as a character designer either. To be honest, I don't really think I'm going to find any more classes at this school to improve my drawing skills, because it's not a traditional art school. It's focused on specific jobs, you know? I know that a game/tv/movie studio won't care what type of degree I get from this school as long as my artwork is good enough for them to decide they want me as a character designer. So even if I go into Fashion and keep my drawing skills up and try improving my skills, I could still possibly be in character design. If I choose Media Arts, I might have a better shot at getting into animated movies or cartoons as a character designer, because of the amount of classes related to animation. I'd still be practicing my drawing, and I'd be learning about animation, but it's not really what I want to do.
[TL;DR: Should I switch majors to Media Arts & Animation or to Fashion Design?]
@RPs: Bleh.. need to do that still.
@Styk: *squeeze* whee your valentine made me happy<3 edit: also, here's where I got all the images from~ [link]

@ Koji: I'm definitely not a pro or expert, but if you feel confident about getting a job doing concept art with either of those majors, I'd switch to the one you enjoy most, which is fashion. Hey, you have to be able to expand your character drawing to costumes for the characters at some point, right?

Styk, on England: Sounds awesome! I just need to create a half-possible education reason for why I should go....and then emotion_dealwithit Also thanks for the Hearts day card. It was super sweet, though it might have clashed with my awesome! Kidding!
On the college thing, I don't quite know how the American system works. So I'll just say "Go with one that you can see yourself being not only successful in, but happy." It is what my father instructed for me.
Edit: I watching MI - 5, a show on the British Secret Agency and the episode kinda made me wonder. What if the agency had to go and protect Kuro (or someone). Like body guards, only there is a threat. I don't know I was trying to think of a way for the rp to stay interesting, cause no offense. It is dull right now.

@ Koji: I'm not sure what your major is, but depending on the university, Game Design courses can either be babby's first comp sci courses or well-rounded design courses. If Game Design isn't your current major, do some research on it. Otherwise, I would go with Media. Fashion doesn't have a whole lot of use in game art by itself.

@Waffle: I'm currently attending one of The Art Institutes. The program I originally signed up for is "Game Art & Design," but most of it is just 3D work. They offered character design, background design, and conceptual storytelling classes, but after I've taken those, it's all going into 3D modeling [whether that be characters, objects, or environments] and 3D animation. My point was that I want to switch out of it to focus more on drawing rather than 3D. And according to my teachers who work in the industry, it doesn't matter what degree I get, the game companies are only interested in the quality of my portfolio. And, since I won't be learning any more traditional drawing skills from the classes in this program, I don't see any point staying in it. Also, I wouldn't mind changing career paths to get into Costume Design, that's where my choice presents itself.
Nari & Lioness: That's what a lot of my friends have been telling me. It seems like a good choice, but I'm still really indecisive. I'm going to be taking next quarter to think about it all, I'll only take General Ed. classes so I can think about my options.

That's a decent idea as long as it doesn't put you too far behind any program. It's always good to take time to think over big changes. 3nodding

X3 [Huggles super tightly] ^_^ That is what I was aiming for! And I hope you know I meant it! :'3 As for what you should switch your major to. . That ones a tough call to make. . But I've seen your artwork, and in my opinion you're very good at what you do. I've also seen the costumes that you've done for cosplaying, and I've seen the stuff you've made for your sister. . . Honestly? I think you've got loads of talent, and no matter what you choose I know you're going to be amazing at it. I know how much you love to draw, and I see how much love you put into the costumes you make as well. I even notice how you put your own creative touches into the costumes as well. . That said, I think you should do Fashion Design. Because you'll be doing loads of what you love, drawing and making clothes. You've got some real talent in both fields, I've noticed. So it seems like it would be a better fit for you!

@Dating Sim: That whole variable thing is a lot easier that I though... I never played with them before because I didn't know what to do, I just avoided them. Also, I spent a good 15 minutes writing code for a character, only to have my laptop lock up on me before I could save... -_-; have to restart now.
@Styk: The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards fashion, but I'm going to give myself more time to think and talk to other people who are in the major and some of my teachers.
@Misc: I have to get [another] root canal this week.. =~=; feh

@ Koji: Switching majors: [Hugs] As corny as this may sound, I really do believe in you. And I really do know that whatever new major you choose, you will be great at it. And you will succeed in it! Just whatever you do: DON'T. GIVE. UP! Ever!

@ Koji: I'm tempted to ask for screenies when you rewrite them events. I put XP on a virtual machine and started playing with it. I can finally see why people like it the most; VX mapping and battling are too bare-bones, 2k3 lacks Ruby scripting and is a pain in the a** to work with graphics-wise, but XP has scripting, 3-layer mapping, a good battle system, and is easy to make graphics for. I think I spent a good half-hour just playing with the music editor, another half-hour searching for 'modern' RPG icons (like for guns, street clothes, drugs, etc) and tilesets, and two hours editing graphics.

@Waffle: I don't know how efficient it is, but the events seem to work relatively well. All of this is just experimentation, so I'm not really sure if I'm doing it 'right'. I'm nowhere near completing any of the character's quest lines, so none of the events have resolution yet, but they interact well, I think. I'll get some screenies later and PM them to you.
@Stickie-Pie: Thank you<3 :'3
@Everyone/no one/stuff: ....I just realized I never finished my winter scene for the guild.. or the group shot I started a long time ago.. maybe since I have a little free time I'll work on that.
