Usako-san
Adonis growled and screamed as loud as he could, pounding his fists into the ground.

Atoshi's ears perk up and he runs into the room Adonis was in "What?!" His eyes dart about looking for any signs of danger. "What's wrong" he sniffs the air trying to smell if something else was wrong.

Jerome went back to weeding, his brow furrowed, "It is hardly a consolation for them, is it? They don;t have a choice in the matter...they're slaves, I suppose? Most of them have no choice in the matter in the first place?"

The corner of Sol's mouth lifted in a wry little half smile. "Some yes. But would it surprise you to learn that many kill to work there?"

"Yes, it would," The priest replied, looking towards the sky. The morning was getting on and the sun was starting to beat on his black cassock which annoyed him. He stood, still looking at the sky and noticed Rio and Aki sitting on the roof.
Jerome smiled and called up to the pair, "Hey, would you mind staying up there for a few months? The church could use some decoration!"
From where he was, Rio was backlit by the sun and his features were blurred, looking like a statue that would decorate a great gothic church.

"If you prove yourself to be the best, the rewards are handsome indeed. Handsome enough many risk their lives for them." Sol said to Jerome. When the preist called up to Rio and Aki, Sol looked up towards the pair, frowing. What is the kitsun doing up there...Rio better not be planning to push him off. He thought to himself. Unconciously he tensed, ready to act if his suspicions proved true.

Hearing Jerome calling to them, Rio looked down at the preist, his eyes visible even with the light to his back. A faint, half smile, similar to the one his brother had just given graced his features breifly. He felt a sense of...he didn't quite know what to call it. It was a feeling he hadn't experienced since he was a baby. Vaguly he thought it might be peace. Absurd, he told himself, you're stuck in the human world, a church no less, you're being hunted, your mother is missing, and you're surrounded by clearly inferior beings. It's the blow to the head. Plus starving for three days. You're still not recovered. A few more days and you'll be eager to leave.

Satisfied with his self-assesment, Rio felt no need to obey his first impulse to spitefully move off the roof and leave Aki stranded. After all, it was rather comfortable where he was. The view wasn't bad and the sun felt marvelous. Oh, and the sun would also account for that niggling warmth he felt that he at first thought might be a sense of peace. Yes. Lack of food, the blow to the head, and the sun. They were the reason for everything. Because he would NEVER enjoy this otherwise. Nope. Not him.

Jerome chuckled and looked back to Sol, "Interesting. I would think that Others, who have forever to live, would be free from such human squabbles as greed." He bent over once more to collect the dead plants and what tools he had to garden with.

"Others were here long before humans. Having more longevity simply means we have more time to accrue things." Sol grinned and brushed a dirty hand through his hair, leaving a few streaks on his face but unaware of it. "The rewards aren't necessarily of a monetary value. You get to live in a luxury that is truly profane. Power. To work there, to live there, is to gain power and prestige few can imagine. And that, my dear Jerome, is one of the most sought after commodities."

Jerome said nothing, but took a handkerchief out of his pocket, dipped it in his watering can and cleaned the dirt from Sol's face, "Now that is something I truely don;t understand," He said, wipeing the cloth gently against his cheek, "the desire for power...power brings responsibility and attention. I understand that some want that, but I don't know why."
He sighed and stepped back, putting the damp kerchief back in his pocket.

Although he had given the barest of flinches when Jerome first went to wipe his face, Sol remained still and let him. Faintly, without even realizing it, he started to purr, stoppig as soon as Jerome did, faint color on his cheeks. "Thank you, Jerome,' he said, against using his proper name. His eyes turned serious as he gave thought to what the priest had just told him. "If you have power, true power, you can avoid the attention of those whom you want nothing to do with. If you have power..." Unconciously, his voice lowered as he continued. "Then no one can hurt you."

"Can they really? If someone is determined enough to hurt you, they will find a way, no matter how powerful you are," The priest took the weeds to a compost pile and smiled at Sol.
"There now, see? Even what I get rid of I make use of...from their death life will spring, these weeds are not so meaningless as you may think," He put a hand on the demons shoulder, "All life is precious, Sol. It is not something to be wasted on the whims of another."

The incubus knelt there, thinking over what Jerome had told him. The only lives he had ever valued had been his own, his mothers, his brothers, and two of his uncles. He had been fed from birth the notion that power was everything and the more you had, the better you were, and, since most people did not seize as much power as they could, it made them weak, inferior. His entire beleif system had, in a few short hours, been fundamentally shaken.

"Had Rio slaughtered that boy last night, would you still consider his to be a precious life?"

Jerome thought for a moment, collecting his thought and replied, "Yes, I would. What he does with his life is inconsequential to the fact that it is a precious thing, a gift to be cherished. Would I have thought it right, or even forgivable that he kill that boy? No, not without sound reason. As a priest, I'm supposed to say that god would have meant for that boy to have died by your brothers hand, but I don't honestly believe that. It would have been regrettable if that had happened, but it does not make your brother's life forfeit."

"Aren't you hungry." He blushed a little. "I mean... Since the vampire... and I think it's been three days, right...?" He stared down to the steps in front of the church, his tail twitching slightly.

"You are strange, even for a human. You would not have wanted vengance? Or even to claim the right of "eye for an eye" that is so popular up here?"

"No." He answered, his voice mellow and calm. "I ate well last night. If i don't do anything strenuous, I won't need to eat again till tonight or tomorrow." Rio shifted slightly and turned so he was looking at Aki, continuing to speak civily to him. "And if you were thinking of offering yourself, do not. It would kill you, or at the very least, damage you permanently."
