*And Maggie, of course, instantly turns bright red* I . . I dinna know how te keep from blushing, but I . . . *she releases a slow breath, inwardly ordering herself to stop getting so flustered, and meets Mell's gaze again* 'Tis just that I'm not at all used te discussing such things. But I came in here te try and learn and I mean te see it through.

*Melliandra smiles, in honest appreciation of Maggies efforts. She stands up, slowly walking around the table to stand beside Maggie. She places he hand gently on Maggie's shoulder*

When I met you, I didn't think much of you until you hit me. Then you proved to me that you weren't just a timid little peasant girl. That surprised me. And I like people that surprise me, Maggie.

*Maggie blinks. It's definitely unusual to be receiving a compliment for striking somebody, but at the same time, it's oddly gratifying. She's not quite sure what to say* It would seem rather strange te say I'm glad that I hit ye, but . . well, I suppose better te say I'm glad I surprised ye, then.

*she looks at her, trying to gauge her expression, then adds* And truly . . . I am grateful that ye're willing te help me without laughing at me. 'Tis very good of ye.

*Melliandra grins* I'm glad to be surprised. *She leans down, speaking softly to Maggie* Maggie, what I say next may surprise you a bit, but I want you to consider it very carefully.

*Maggie hesitates, but then nods, still determined* Aye . . . alright.

*Melliandra leans close and whispers something in Maggie's ear*

*Maggie's eyes widen as she listens. Her face goes bright red again, but she doesn't pull away or interrupt. Even once Mell pauses, it takes her a good moment to find her voice again* Good heavens . . . *she manages to squeak out, finally* And . . . people . . . really . . . ? Oh my.

*Melliandra doesn't smile, but she keeps her tone soft and conversational. She watches Maggie closely* That's only one thing men and women do together. And it's rather tame, if you ask me. Do you think you can handle more?

*Maggie grips her wine glass to keep herself from twisting her hands together. If that's what Melli thinks of as tame . . . .*

*She cuts off that train of thought, closes her eyes, takes a breath and releases it slowly. The color in her face goes down a little, she opens her eyes and nods* Aye . . . *she says softly, then again with a bit more conviction* Aye.

*Melliandra nods, satisfied. She takes a seat next to Maggie* You're a little intimidated. It's okay to be scared as long as you control the fear and not the other way around. I promise you, you're not making a mistake. When you look back on this, you'll wonder why you ever felt shocked by it.

*She pulls the book closer to them* Let's back up a little. What do men want in a woman?

*Maggie takes another sip of wine, then chews her lip thoughtfully as she considers Mell's question* I was always taught . . . that 'twas simply best for a woman te be humble, and obedient. *her brow furrows a bit* I am'na at all certain of that any longer, though. I dinna believe 'tis what Bard wants of me.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 22, 2005 6:12 pm

*Melliandra chuckles* Humble and obedient. Well, that sounds like an excellent role for a slave... and there are men who want devoted slaves... however, I would be shocked if Bard is one of them.

Very well. What do you think Bard looks for in a woman?

*Maggie puzzles over that for a moment. She knows she must be very different from the last woman he was with, and she's not sure what conclusions to draw from that* I . . . I think perhaps he wants somebody who could be his equal . . . someone he can respect . . .*and though she doesn't say it aloud, her expression reflects her worry that that may not be her*

Well then, I think he made a good choice. *Melliandra says*

*Maggie looks over toward her, a bit surprised, but she smiles gratefully* Thank ye . . .
