tenor would be great if we actually had someone who could play it well...all of our tenors are just doubling on it because we need them. no one really specializes in tenor; thus, they sound icky. We have four tenors (or two/three, depending on the season). Two of us play sax as their main instrument - the two guy tenors. The two girl tenors (myself included) play flute as well. Though I haven't played flute for band in a long time 'cause sax players are cooler, so I switched to tenor full-time (I was originally just playing for pep and jazz).
You know what's weird? I'm on staff at Summer Music School, and I took charge of the tenor section since there were a couple staff on flute and none on tenor. There's four of us total - two eighth grade girls, a freshman boy, and me - and ALL of us switched to tenor from flute. It's crazy. XD I love my little tenor section. We're the smallest besides oboe (well, we're tied with the baris), and we kick serious a**, because the three students are really quiet and all of them LISTEN when I lead sectionals. It's so cool. My friend is in charge of the altos... I feel so bad for her. She's come from sectionals wanting to rip out her hair. XD
