GALE - BEACH

He stared in mingled amusement and appreciation for Otto's imagination, and horror at the same time, Gale's mouth falling open. His hand fell away from the little girl's, and he took a breath, trying to wrap his mind around the scene in front of them.

"Er," he said brilliantly. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to laugh, cry, yell, or do all three.

The little girl's shadow stretched, twisted, and then it had reformed itself into a set of doors. Doors that looked remarkably...like....

Gale's chest felt tight. It would be dangerous to go through them without knowing what was on the other side, but at the same time - at the same time, his head felt so terribly, awfully empty, and if this door led him to who he hoped was on the other side...

With a deep breath and a last look at Otto, Gale stepped through the gun shaped door.

Please, he thought, fingers trembling. Please let it be -

[ Bradley - Courtyard ]

He was angry. He was angry he oculdn't contact Yzialin. He was angry that something was attacking Deus and Lucky was being less than willing to say what it was. He was angry that their own were fighting them. This rage seeped into his veins, pumping throughout his limbs as he watched the vines slowly pull back from the dorms. There was something about the destruction left that made his blood sing, yet it was not the destruction he remembered from his nightmares.

It wasn't carnal. It wasn't bloodthirsty. It wasn't claws and teeth and roars. It wasn't a hunger for it.

Brown eyes looked at the hunters around him, looked at those who would not speak, could not speak, or didn't know. The ignorance. The neglagence. Something was attacking Deus and yet they all panicked. Like scared little whelps just out of their shells.

(Idly, he mused to himself that Yzia's phrases were rubbing off on him.)

Fists clenched and his jaw set, and Bradley turned his attention on his own. Either they would win, or they'd fall. What state they were in for either of those two outcomes was irrelevant. His knuckles popped loudly, the only outward display of his anger.

For now.

Immediately, Rep started falling. It was impossible to tell where he was, it was simply too abstract, a long empty cavern filled with greens and whites and blues. Crystals sprouted from random directions, then filled with vines, and then burst into flowers. Red butterflies scattered all directions. At some point he stopped falling and simply stayed where he was, as everything soared upwards around him, in a slow spiral.

At the very bottom there was a cage. It was empty, the cage door open.

The rush of dizziness hit him like a brick, and he planted his feet to keep himself steady, more worried about the safety of the child in his arms than whatever was actually happening to him. Mimsy looked up to ask him for advice, but Robert had none, because he couldn't speak - couldn't think - everything was focused on staying still, staying up.

Mimsy was yelling, and something about the way she screamed encouraged him to follow. He stumbled just once, before he found his footing and sludged forward more carefully.

Keep him safe. Those were the only three words he could manage in is addled brain. Keep him safe.

[ Courtyard - Zeke ]

A little more shifting, accompanied by the sounds of discomfort and pain associated with third degree burns and brain melting migraine, and Zeke was sitting with his right elbow resting on his right knee. His hand was supporting his head. It felt as if that alone was holding his skull together, as if the bones themeselves wanted to separate and slide apart. He was shaking, a fine trembling that was slowly growing in intensity as he watched as Ever teetered once, worryingly, then went after the zombie with renewed purpose.

It might have been something of an ego stroke if everything wasn't going to hell in a hand basket around them.

Now he'd notice it, the absence of the vines, the general shift of the crowd as a good number of them started to head in the direction of the beach. He watched for a moment, attention divided, before speaking up. "Somethings happening." He wasn't sure Ever had heard him, and frankly, in that moment, if the other man could down the thing that had torched him he'd be very glad for it.

It didn't matter that it was a fellow hunter. Zeke didn't know them, and they'd just dealt him a great deal of pain, and possible disfigurement. It ranked them somewhere lower than dirt in the Mist's book.

CHANCE - COURTYARD

Fingers seized ahold of the net around Tommy, yanking hard.

"Okay, okay," said Chance, a slight smile on his face as he ignored the shooting pains rippling up his arms. He gave Horace a nod. "I mean, I knew you were hot stuff, but really, this is taking it too literally."

Both Gale and Otto would receive their weapons. It felt like being able to breathe again as a part of their minds unlocked, as a voice became known. They had been sleeping, and now they were awake.

[ Dorms ]

Everything was happening so fast, Abbi was having a hard time keeping on her toes. Also she was not feeling well and had just been strangled so when the vines grabbed her, she didn't bother fighting. Not really, she fought a little, but mostly let it happen.
"Really I should have expected this." She said to no one in particular, thumping her head against a green curl. At one point she saw Gale being dragged off and did honestly try to help, but it was impossible what with her strung up in vines as she was.

As quickly as the vines came they were gone, Abbi was dropped to the floor, and for all of two seconds she had some peace. And then she felt an odd calling and noticed the blood on the floor.
One moment of clarity is all she needs to rip the backpack from her shoulders and rifle through it, digging hard enough that she puts a hole in one of the bandages curled up inside and pops seams in the bag itself. But she knows its here, she knows she put it here somewhere and if she doesn't move fast she's going to lose herself. Already she feels herself slipping, her movements getting clumsy as she pulls out a small plastic box and fumbles with the clasp. Her panic and frustration eventually just rips the thing open and out spills a multitude of little bottles of antiseptic and more, kiddy band-aids, and even a capped syringe. Abbi actually curses, she hisses it and snatches at the little bottles scattered on the floor. Big drops of blood splatter between her frantically moving fingers, but finally, finally she finds them.

Two small vials is all she has, but it'll do for now.
Abbi uncorks the first and takes the antidote like a shot, sputtering a little because she hadn't expected it go down like one. She coughs, but she feels better at least.
With one more left over, the girl is up and moving, clutching at it until she finds Cameron. In a flash she's by his side, grabbing his hands and shoving the vial into them.
"Take it! Right this second, right now, pretend its a drink, but it tastes like crap I swear I'll buy you a real drink if we get out of this but take this right now!" The panic from before returns, the feeling of deep emptiness in her head is the most frightening thing, but for right now she can focus on making sure he's ok. He'd helped her once and she was glad to repay the favor.

<> Tenya yawned, wondering why Otto was mentally elated to feel her presence. Right away, Otto summoned the giant 6 foot boomerang. Just to feel her weight again. Just to feel powerful again.

I'll never take you for granted again.

He'd missed her. He'd never wish she wasn't around again. Never. Tenya beamed happily in his mind.

Her runes glowed bright, his arms felt strong again. Wielding a weapon taller than he was had always been a mark of pride for Otto. "********' Hell." He grinned widely.

And now? The clean up. The Chaos.

"We can't attack them can we? We'd kill'em." They were powerful again, even if Otto's key knocked his strength down a tier. That was another puzzle that needed solving soon. Everyone was still infected, Otto included to some degree.

[?????]

Rep stepped into the portal and immediately out into nothing, but with the nature of portals - and something you generally got taught on Portal Orientation 101 - you were generally best not to change your mind half way through one, so he closed his eyes and kept going, falling out into nothing, his stomach twisting and heart fluttering as he plummeted. Everything was a swirl of colour, white and blue and green, and nothing stayed still long enough to focus on or concentrate.

He was human, so ******** human and knew that whenever there was a floor it was probably game over, this was the point in the ******** choose your own adventure that life was where he'd turned the wrong page and he didn't have his finger in the last one. He braced himself, took a slow deep breath (because some muddled animal instinct hoped this would make him lighter)

And then he stopped. At some point he'd closed his eyes. He opened them again.

"I'm not in ******** Kansas any more." he said to himself, in some desperate effort to maintain his own spirits and hold back the vortex of anxiety and terror he'd just experienced. His hands shook.

The cage was concerning. It reminded him of the raptor cage in Jurassic Park (because everything reminded him of movies or games as a general rule) and it was with no small degree of reluctance and trepidation that he tried to move against whatever forces were at work in this strange limbo to get a better look at it.

GALE - BEACH

The relief was both instantaneous and almost overwhelming.

Jinhai?

<< Good morning, Gale. >>

He could have wept from sheer gratitude. Gale almost toppled over as the swell of emotion washed over him, unable to comprehend that, in spite of having lived most of his life without a second voice in his head, now he found it almost impossible. Jinhai was just as much a part of him as his own thoughts, a crucial identity and a much respected voice that Gale needed.

Please never do that again.

<< Only if you promise to stop touching things you shouldn't. What on earth happened while I was asleep? >>

Er...

But the dragon was laughing, and a second later, the rifle appeared in Gale's hands alongside Otto's weapon in his own, the weight familiar and soothing, metal cool against his palm. It felt like an old friend.

"We can't just stand here, though, there has to be something we can do," he said, turning to see if the little girl was still around.

Evan chuckled as Lex snapped at him, though he allowed the other man to lean on him. He was almost impressed that Lex was standing at all after all of that, though to look at Lex it had clearly been a near thing.

"I don't ******** know, man. I was out here and the alarms went off, and then all this s**t," he gestured at the vines covering all of the space not taken up by other hunters and--whatever the people that used to be hunters were, "started happening. Some people are getting sick, no one that I know of can hear their weapons, and yeah, the people waking up are definitely green-eyed zombie things."

He was prevented from saying more as Lex's weight abruptly disappeared. He turned to watch, perplexed, as Lex wordlessly wandered off. "Hey, you shouldn't," Evan started, taking a single step after him and stopping as he was immediately overcome with nausea and dizziness. The ground spun beneath his feet, the green eyes of the fallen hunters mixing with the moonlit red of spilled blood; no, looking at the ground was not helping.

Evan swallowed hard and took a deep breath, willing himself to fight through the foreign sensations. He had forgotten what it was like to be sick. He stumbled forward, sheer force of will keeping him on his feet.

[ Finn- Courtyard ]

"Finn's right."

Was it the sickness talking, or had Ripley actually just said that? Finn was willing to bet it was actually the sickness, but he gave the other man a quick smile of appreciation anyways, a mere flicker of lips, barely there for a split second and gone again just like that. It was nice to be backed up, for a change, by anybody, to not be opposed, to not feel like he was simply talking to himself and that nobody was listening.

Yes, even in a situation as dire as this, these were the little moments that Finn could appreciate, moments that he could remember later, but for now, could simply file away, since there were more pressing matters to attend to.

Except maybe not quite as pressing as it seemed, since Jack seemed to have gone and made himself useful, for the moment.

Ian was speaking, but it was hard for him to focus on too much at once. The clap on the shoulder certainly helped to draw his attention for the moment, however, and when Ripley said something about whiskey, Finn shook his head. "That's all for me, sorry, he'll have to get his own." And then, at the uglt mug comment, Finn gave the other man the best dead pan look he could muster.

"Please. My a** is prettier than your ******** face, dipshit."

Ah, friendship.

As Ripley spoke of going to find Shiloh, all Finn could think to do was to sit down on the ground. There was too much going on around him, and it was overwhelming. Dizzying. He took a step away from the other two just to give himself a little bit of space, taking deep breaths, willing himself to just focus.

And for a few moments, he actually managed to feel better. He was able to put a lock down on the illness, not quite overcoming it but, by sheer force of will, able to think past it. He turned back towards Ian and Ripley, ready to come up with a game plan, or at the very least, help out in finding Shiloh, when he saw it.

Ripley stumbled.

Of course, that didn't need to mean anything. They both hadn't been feeling well from the get go, and it was likely that he had just been hit with a wave of dizziness. Finn tried to pass it off as nothing at first, moving closer, about to offer him some form of help, when something in the other man shifted, his hand jerking away from Ian's arm, his expression changing, to something Finn had seen before.

And the moon hunter let out a low groan. "******** seriously? This again?" He practically snarled, watching as the man in front of him took a step back and away from them, the look in his eyes saying it all before his paranoid words even fell from his mouth.

Finn rolled his eyes.

"He gets like this when he's on his rag." He explained to Ian, watching as the other man turned to flee.

"Come on, we'll likely need to subdue him. Couple hits on the head, maybe a nice little stab with a needle." Finn raked fingers through his hair. "Or, you could just go find your man, and I'll deal with mine."

He totally didn't even notice the slip in his words. Hey, maybe Ian wouldn't either.

And then Finn suddenly began to feel much sicker than he had a moment before. <******** infection bullshit.
