Okay, so while crocheting I was letting my mind drift to Nephthys and Sapphire. I was thinking perhaps she stumbles upon him during a moment of failure. Since you described him as clumsy I assume he has several accidents when practicing alchemy. With her family knowing about magic she could help him deal with the aftermath. How much so would be up to you, whether it's just cleaning up a mess, tending a wound, or having to actually take care of him cause he got hurt. She'd be up to any of that. And while she's helping him she'd be chatting. I'm assuming he'd tell her what he was trying or making mentions of what he does. She would cheerfully admit that she doesn't know the first thing about alchemy, but would suggest maybe he needs better ingredients. She can't help him with his magic, but she can certainly help him find things since she travels around so much! And if it's plants he needs there isn't much her aunt either doesn't have, and if she doesn't she knows where to get it. Plus Serenade's magic enhances the natural power of a plant, so if Nephthys explains why she needs the ingredients then anything harvested by her aunt will be guaranteed to be the best! Basically Nephthys is just all sparkling energy and willingness to help out. I don't know if Sapphire would be charmed by that or find it annoying.

Now Nephy's power is the ability to scry things. The easiest for her to see is the present, though it's difficult for her to control exactly what she sees. Mostly it's because of her energy, and if she's calm enough she can hold her scrying to a specific thing. It's not all she can scry though. She can see the past, future, and into other realms and dimensions entirely. But she has to use water as a medium for scrying, any scrying at all, and anything but present scrying requires very special waters to help boost her powers, or else she can't hold the visions long enough for anything to come to the surface. She would probably ask Sapphire if she could store some of her waters at his workshop, all of which she keeps in glass bottles and carefully labeled. I don't think this would be tangential to the story, it's just an aside.
Do you think he could make a way to alert him if Neph ever got seriously hurt, or is that outside his power scope?

[12:12:20 AM] Jinx: We can assume he might have something like that by the time we reach that point in the story. Nephy would very much like Sapphire and stick around after the first meeting. She's not too keen on learning alchemy since she hardly has the patience for her own magic, but she thinks it's interesting to watch and she admires that Sapphire is doing his best to get better and learn new things. She also really enjoys exploring and being active, so would gladly keep an eye out for uncommon or rare things he might need. For the basic day-to-day stuff she'd be happy to get that or help him get things, since she wouldn't want her presence to mean Sapphire becomes a shut in. Whether or not he's inclined to doing so on his own she'd make sure he got walks for exercise and eats properly and make him take a day or two off from anything to do with work so he can just enjoy himself. If he's naturally inclined to do that anyway then she'd just be there, hanging out with him as a friend.
Now I know we already did a life-threatening thing with Kin and Liz and I try not to overuse those, so we can do one if you like but I think they could easily fall in love naturally. We can have it like a festival is going on, maybe, or there's a meteor shower and they're both watching. Something of that ilk. And one confesses, insert romantic/mushy stuff here lol Is Sapphire at all oblivious in love or do you think he'd recognize his feelings?
