The wounded man had finally pegged one of Amaya’s pet peeves; even though he had complained about a situation without offering a real solution. The child thought over his words but wasn’t satisfied. Wasn’t he being hypocritical in his statements? Amaya focused intensely on her task trying to make heads and tails of what he said. While she thought, the black haired girl finished applying ointment to the gauze pads and completely sealed the jar once she was done. At that, the child sifted, bringing her right leg forward, so that her foot was flat on the ground and her knee bent up in front of her chest. It wasn’t that she was uncomfortable sitting on the floor, she was quite used to it. No, she figured that it would be easiest to apply the rest of the dressings from this position.

Much like she had before, the young Keiji grabbed Akeru’s wrist; but instead of holding it she place his palm on her knee and left it to rest there. That way she would have his arm in a stable position without her having to waste a hand attending to it. Plus, she needed to focus on putting the padding in the right spots. It seemed like a two handed job to her if she could help it. While Amaya was pleased with her progress, she still had to guard the wound from airborne pathogens and the such; though she wasn’t very knowledgeable on the matter. Oh well, it seemed that she was making progress and she hadn’t been corrected by the eseinin. Hopefully that was a good sign. If not, then it would be on him since he was the expert. Plus, he had never been shy about giving her pointers and hints in her target practice; but he wasn’t quite the same him that Amaya had worked with earlier that morning.

With Akeru’s hand where she wanted it, the small child lifted up the first pad and carefully hovered it over the wound, making sure it was in the exact position that she was wanting it in. Gently, she placed the first of several pads to come over the wound, gently pressing down on the corners to make sure it sealed with the ointment that was already on the man’s arm. Hopefully some of the goo got in the wound to help kill off the germs that were already on the surface. If not, the medical ninjas could attend to it eventually. The girl took a moment to look over the dressing to make sure that she had placed it like she imagined and that this little method of hers was going to work. A gentle nod confirmed that she was content with what she had at that point.

”Akeru-san, I don’t quite understand; maybe you could help me a little. You say that the simplest solution is government control, but we have witnesses a similar situation that failed just this past summer. Plus, a world full of shinobi is far more dangerous than the death-row prisoners. How is that solution learned from the past?”

She didn’t articulate it well, but she just couldn’t understand how repeating a failed solution would work when he had stated himself that history was to be learned from.

"What I am saying...is one solution is to provide an absolute government, such as Kirigakure no Sato's form. For their kekkai genkai wielding families, even the thought of betrayal is impossible, simply because of the degree of repercussions that became ingrained deeply in their clans' psyche. Naturally, another village is another culture, and they have their own fair share of problems too. But that goes back to ideals..."

He paused.

"Konoha...has pretty ideals that were established by the Senju. But the Shodaime valued freedom too highly. And so, the people here grew to value idealistic freedom too much. Those death-row prisoners...believed they were right in petitioning for peace at any cost, and were willing to go any lengths to achieve that, until they were painted as wrong by the state. If the state had been more forceful of discipline from the start, those people would not have to lose their lives. Executing them wasn't a necessary action, because the state chose to do something only when the problem became too great."

"In terms of Konoha specifically... This means the shinobi here faces situations they shouldn't have to face, choices they shouldn't have to make, simply because the state does nothing until it istoo late. The only thing that changes is the time, but the historical problems cycle again and again. Actually, in dealing with her numerous clans... It wasn't until the Rokudaime's time, that the thought of clans deciding if their members live or dies was even challenged. Yet today, that is still not completely outlawed. Konoha's problem is a city-state composed of too many smaller city-states."

Amaya was glad that Akeru was willing to take the time to explain things to her. She was also glad to see that he wasn’t as hypocritical as her last translation had made her think. Idealistic freedom. Was that a form of the child’s peace? Perhaps the Keiji was idealistic in her views and she was misinterpreting them as realistic. Her mind was swirling as she placed the pads with a slight overlap up the young man’s arm. She was growing more comfortable in her work, so her mind was freed to wander about in itself. The state does nothing until it is too late. That was something that the young girl had noticed about her home. They were about punishment, not prevention. This was partly due to their lack of foresight, the child assumed. Then again, there were many things that she did not understand about the village that she lived in. That was one of the many reasons why she decided to pursue the path of the shinobi.

The young girl placed the last of the gauze pads on Akeru’s arm as her thoughts began twisting and turning out of control. She was going to have to make a point to speak with him whenever possible: he made her think about things that were never even approached by the people in her day to day life and she loved it. To make things better, he left her with questions. Things to ponder and something to keep her mind moving constantly, frantically. It was thrilling in the sense of an academic and Amaya did enjoy a good challenge.

However, the child paused before moving on to securing the dressing on Akeru’s arm. Her eyebrows furrowed gently as she thought, but they were mostly concealed by the chopped bangs that fell over her forehead, and she gently bit the inside of her lower lip. No, she couldn’t stop there. Amaya busied herself by piling the wrappers together and by riffling through the metal box for the gauze that she would use to wrap the thing in one final package. She had done well so far and she could be proud of her work, but it was the furthest thing from her mind at this point. How are problems like these fixed? Can they be? The questions fought with one another inside her head as she finally laid her hand on the white wrapping material. ”Akeru-san, The girl paused with uncertainty. ”Does the state see its own shortcomings or do they continue in their favor blindly?” Amaya wasn’t sure if she was crossing boundaries or if what she asked was appropriate, but that was never a concern for her when she was seeking out knowledge and information.

Just because water conforms does not mean it is any lesser an element.

"Regimes do not learn until overthrown. And even then, the cycle merely repeats. However..."

He truly enjoys talking to her... The way she phrased questions made him earnestly think about his answers in ways he didn't think was possible. Perhaps another colleague would laugh at him for taking a child this seriously, but he didn't think there was anything wrong with that, with being careful with his answers not because he cared about impressions, but because he was really concerned with what to convey through his speech. Shika-jii-san had often told him that was his greatest problem, to be able to express himself properly. Usually, in the normal course of conversation, with those who could speak better and faster, Akeru found it easier to simply say nothing and remain on the backdrop of conversation. But with her, he feels that even though it is just a start, he could just begin to manage.

"...however, even though the cycle repeats, people struggle."

Maybe it was because she truly is like water, flowing adaptively through life. Because she wasn't like him, who was only pretending, but there was truth resounding about not just her words, but also from every fibre of her being.

"Hey, Amaya-chan... Why do you think people struggle so hard?"

With the roll of gauze in her hand, Amaya turned her attention back to Akeru’s arm while he talked. She loved getting to listen to him, even if she disagreed sometimes. It was a healthy relationship when one person could openly discuss something with another and neither of them bicker about it – just discuss. People had different views on life, different opinions, and different ways of expressing themselves and it seems as though the Uchiha and the Keiji matched up fairly well in their communication. It was nice to find someone to talk to who took her seriously instead of brushing off the small girl as a child.

The man’s words drifted over to her as she began gently wrapping the dressings that she had already put in place. There was pressure, but not enough to slow the circulation; just enough to hold fast and keep everything that she had just set in place. The child was fairly proud of her work considering she had no experience with first aid aside from bumps and bruises.

Amaya paused in the midst of looping the gauze around his arm yet again, about half way down the wound, when she heard a question passed in her direction. Their conversation had mostly consisted of her interrogating him, so it was bound to come back at her eventually. That didn’t mean she was prepared for it though. Amaya continued wrapping around the arm, though slower than before, as she rolled the question around in her head. ”Well…” She paused, gently biting her lip as she tried to translate her thoughts into words. The young girl was fairly certain that she didn’t actually think in words simply because it could take so long for her to form the thought into expression.

”I believe there are many reasons why people struggle as hard as they do. You were talking about cycles, Akeru-san, and how people continue to struggle even though they are reliving something that has occurred before. Well, I think that is in part to do with how they are led. If the regime doesn’t learn, change, adapt to the needs of its people, then why would citizens ever consider doing so on their own?” The black haired Keiji came to the end of her wrap, glad that it was sufficient to cover the wound that she had worked so hard to patch up. She removed four metal clips from the white box beside her. ”Coming from the civilian sector, I see it every day. The people tend to depend entirely on those who are higher in the pecking order than they are. They need guidance and they require someone to lead them along a path. It is only when something changes radically or suddenly that they choose to lash out or think against order herself.” Amaya reached up to the beginning of the wrap, using two of the clips to secure the edge of the gauze. These were flat pieces of metal that were shaped like an hourglass. They had one small, dull tooth on each of the four corners that would grip the gauze without poking into the flesh beneath but holding on securely enough so that the wearer could still move around and function without fear of unraveling their dressings. ”The cycle repeats, the people repeat. I imagine it is more or less the same in the ranks of the shinobi save for a few select thinkers.” Then, the girl placed the bottom two clips snuggly into place, giving a final hold to her handy work.

”However, I don’t think people struggle simply because of a regime. It is self inflicted as well.” Now, the girl began repacking unused supplies and making a small pile for disposables like the popsicle stick she had used. ”People are the source of their own struggles. They refuse to learn from the past for a variety of reasons and in doing so they fail to learn. If nothing has been taken from a struggle, then it will repeat itself no matter how many times that person encounters it.” With a gentle hand, using her fingers to make sure the lid didn’t make noise when it shut, the child closed the lid of the metal back and relocked the latches. She didn’t know why, but she hated the sound of a metal box closing. ”But that also leads the question as to why people struggle as hard as they do every day. To be honest, Akeru-san, I think there are many reasons. Some people are just stubborn and refuse to give up, but there are others who live for a purpose or with some sort of goal in mind. That is what keeps them going.” The black haired child lifted the box by its handle to stand it upright, though she didn’t move to rise yet. ”I think people struggle so hard because they are trying to break that cycle, even though they don’t know where to begin. They have their ideals and they have that fantasy world that they want to project onto life and in order to achieve it, they keep struggling on. Most of them, however, are blind to the fact that they can’t just wish change to happen. They have to be that change; they have to introduce it into the world.” Amaya had been looking down at the ground, but she now turned her eyes up to the man before her, brushing the loose hair from her face. ”This struggle is a knife, if you will. Most people in this world wield a dull, flat knife because they know no better. They haven’t been taught to do otherwise. While a dull knife can still be used, it is difficult, ineffective, and dangerous. Then, there are a few people here and there who have learned to sharpen their knives. They have looked upon the past and current actions of the people around them and they have noticed the fruitless struggle. The attempt at progress without actually change anything. They are the ones who learn and the ones who create change in the world. Now, these people have a distinct advantage because this knew found knowledge is powerful. Their knives are easier to wield, more effective. However, if they hurt themselves with this sharpened knife, they may never be the same as they once were.”

The girl’s voice trailed off as she looked off to the side, almost embarrassed. She knew her opinions, her thoughts, her ideals weren’t the norm and she knew they were out there for many people. Then, being around Akeru, she couldn’t help but tell him everything because he was so willing to listen and he had yet to shoot her down. Sure, he had scared her senseless earlier, but he treated her like an individual with a mind, not just another kid daydreaming. However, it did always bother her that she would come to the end of whatever statement she was making and she wouldn’t be quite sure how she got there. Oh well, Akeru seemed to understand what she was saying well enough.

For some reason staring at the back of the other new kids head was getting no response. Usually this sort of concentrated eye pressure would cause the other person to look around, shiver or otherwise react. This guy did absolutely nothing, he simply sat there working on his hand signs oblivious to what was happening the world around him. Not wanting to disturb or hinder a student with such unfaltering determination to work on his assignment to the exclusion of all else, he turned away in search of other pursuits.

He hadn't been paying complete attention to their sensei's explanation of the activity everyone else seemed to have already completed, since he'd been a little finger tied at the time. However, through observing the other students and a little guess work he figured that they were all working on hiding their presence with some new jutsu. He'd love to get down to work right away but not knowing the exact details of the assignment and without a partner to assist and check his work, he was reluctant to just jump in. His usually enthusiasm and recklessness was tempered by recent failures, so he was a doing such things with more care. After all who knew what could happen to him if he started working along and somehow disappeared himself out of existence? No, he wouldn't risk that quite yet, not if he didn't have to.

In an effort to find someone to instruct him on how to perform this new jutsu and make sure he didn't accidentally eradicate his existence, he cupped his eyes and began scanning the area for a possible partner. He began to walk as he swung his head from side to side, doing his best to scan the whole area for someone who would fit the bill. Unfortunately, all he saw were people busy either finishing up with their own partner or working on some extra credit.

Growing a tab bit frustrated he abruptly spun around and immediately slammed his head into something hard and unforgiving. It seemed his cupped hands have given him a bit of tunnel vision and somehow he'd manage to bump into a tree or something that was in his blindspot. The collision wasn't too hard, so he didn't suffer any lasting damage but his eyes did grow a bit hazy and he wobbled for a moment. When his eyes cleared, his feet were settled and his head felt a little more solid, he looked up to realize what he'd hit was not in fact a tree, lamppost or any other inanimate object.

Nope. he wasn't that lucky. Instead of some sturdy object he could blame for his misfortune, he'd bumped into a really sturdy lady who'd probably start screaming at him. Unfortunately an event similar to this had happened to him before, and he knew what was coming. Some tedious tirade about how he needed to watch his step or look before he leaped, followed with the promise that she'd talk to his mother about this. It was all quite boring and not helpful when what he needed now was not a lecture but a lesson. Wanting to simply get this over with as quickly a possible so he could get back to his search, he began to apologize before she could get a word out.

"Sumimasen Oba-san, I didn't see you there. I'm truly horrified that I stepped on your toes or knocked you over, and next time I'll be sure to watch we're I'm going."

Shiro watched as Sakurayuki took up his offer and briefly tried matching the pattern of the wall. She did well, but quickly dropped the cloth, before jumping to the top of the wall. From the top of the wall she spoke him. "Shiro-kun... Do you think he'll be ok? You know, our sensei..."

Not being one of those people who were competent in the conversational arts Shiro simply gave his honest answer"Well I don't think he's really cut out for war." the boy stated. Then he quickly realized that she probably didn't want to hear that. "But Obieoko-sensei is really jumpy so I'm sure he'll keep his head down and come out okay." he added. Though in the back of his mind Shiro felt is Ko's cowardly nature would put his squad mates in danger. Though he concluded that they could probably handle themselves. Thinking about the way did make him yearn to get out there though. He wanted to fight, to make a name for himself, to really prove his own worth, and just hanging around in the Academy was delaying that. Odly enough though he was not in a rush to hurry forward. This momentary lull was okay with him for now. He'd been making good progress and, somehow he felt that delaying his graduation would increase the odds of being put into a rookie team. A team where he could establish himself as the number 1 rookie instead of just being a replacement for someone

She perked up at Shiro's words, thinking of the many people, including her parents who were just as involved in the war as her sensei was.

"You think so?" she said as she fingered her hair. "I don't know... he seems so hyper and all. I feel like he'd probably jump out and start panicking in the middle of the battlefield." She laughed a little, imagining the scene in her head. "But maybe the paranoia would help him better in the situation. He is a part of the shinobi force after all. You can't really judge anyone by his covers. Maybe he's acutally so good that he'll be Jōnin when he comes back!" she joked, knowing it wasn't that simple. All the same, she found it funny and smirked to herself. Looking at her partner, she found that the smirk was growing into a full-blown grin, and the look in Shiro's incredulous eyes set her off as she started laughing hard, clutching her stomache and bending over, still laughing breathlessly.

She sobered up after a while, deciding she'd had enough and needed to focus on finishing up her jutsu again. Not to mention that it felt as if any more of this and her stomache would snap in half from the pang. Wiping her eyes, she regained a modicrum of composure. But one simple glance at him just set her off again into another fit of laughter, which caused her to accidentally fall over backwards from the top of the wall she was perched on.

A loud thump was heard from behind the wall, with a moan, filled with a mix of pain, but with residual laughter from before in her tone.

"Oowww.."

Shiro listened to her thoughts on Manabu Ko, but he wasn't really sure it was that funny of a thing. He probably would panic, and then die, but well that wasn't really funny, he'd like to laugh at it but that was something he couldn't bring himself to do. After she finished speaking, Sakurayuki apparently found something that he was not aware of to be quite funny and broke out into laughter. In fact she began laughing so hard that she fell off the wall. He could hear an audible thud as the girl hit the ground. I didn't think she was that fat. he laughed to himself. He wasn't sure she was okay until he heard her voice, still full of laughter, come from the other side of the wall. This provided him an opportunity though, he now had a new pattern to try. Shiro climbed up the wall and quickly raised his cloth up. angling it so that as she looked at the wall all she'd see would be the cloth. He then pulled blue across the cloth and matched the sky above.

"Hey Yuki-chan! How many fingers am I holding up?" he said with a laugh from behind the cloth, knowing full well that she couldn't see his fingers.

When she was finished with the bandages, he held up his arm, and lightly moved it. He didn't feel the obvious burn of pain with the experimental movements, and also, it didn't feel like his arm was getting no oxygen at all. It was quite excellent work, in fact. Much more than merely satisfactory. With that, Akeru looked from the bandaged arm, and back to Amaya, before rewarding her with a delicate smile.

"It's well done. I couldn't have done it better myself." He expressed, his tone earnest.

As she commented on his words from before, lowering his eyes, he replied to her in turn.

"I don't believe circles are necessary a terrible thing. The Hyuuga Ichizoku loved to talk about fate... I imagine it is something like that. Circles can also be as beautiful as they are vicious. There is pain and suffering, but there is also guarantee at the end of every evening, there will be a sunrise."

He paused.

"Perhaps people struggle simply to attain proof they are truly alive. It's hard, though..." He admitted softly. "If your struggles seem so in vain, compared to everything else, it is so easy to lose your way. But I also suppose..."

His warm golden gaze returned to her.

"...but I also suppose that is why people have each other, isn't that so?"

It was clear that he was slowly, but surely, starting to feel better.

Rubbing the back of her head, she got up and looked up. Shiro's voice came from the... wall? No. It came from the sky, and it was the heavenly prophet coming down and asking, "Hey Yuki-chan! How many fingers am I holding up?" in Shiro's voice. Right.

Keeping a completely straight face, she replied to this 'heavenly deity'. "Six. Yes, Shiro. You are holding up six fingers. I swear to Kami you are."

She then smiled at where the voice came from, because really, she couldn't tell if he was really there or not. He might have moved to some other place, or not been there at all in the first place, because he had hidden so well. She really needed to get to work, instead of having fun at his expense, as tempting an idea it was to do so.

Jumping over to the other side of the wall, she hopped down and looked over to a random spot on the wall, wondering where he had hid. Picking up a stick, she grinned and started poking along the wall, hoping she'd get lucky and poke something soft, which would be Shiro, of course.

Kakuremino no Jutsu (Cloak of Invisibility Technique)
Description: This Jutsu is where one uses a cloak or a piece of cloth to make oneself blend in with the background, interpreting oneself invisible. While a student should use a cloak/cloth that fits with their environment, chakra can be used to enhance the effect but it can not make up for using the wrong camouflage. In this exercise the students will demonstrate their ability to blend in to various surroundings using their cloaks/cloths.

"Six. Yes, Shiro. You are holding up six fingers. I swear to Kami you are." he heard her answer. "Batsu! I'm holding up the cloak Yuki-chan, so both of hands are gripping it." he replied. "Unfortunately that means our contest won't be going home with a prize." he added in like a game show host. At this point he broke out into laughter, no longer able to contain it. Seeing that Sakurayuki was poking around with a stick he decided it was time to jump off the wall. However as he moved to jump off the wall he slipped and fell from the wall, all the while laughing. To anyone watching the scene from a distance his apparent landing point would have seemed obvious. That observers only question would have to be, "What is that girl doing to do?", as his momentum put Shiro on a collision course with Sakurayuki. All only paths would be before the girl she'd have to pick one.

After having been held up by her loving parents, she had finally arrived at the Academy huffing and puffing. She had to run all the way, so it was quite the ordeal. She had a man waiting for her, this man would introduce her to the teacher, and then the teacher would do what ever he preferred to do with late comers. She was escorted down the hall, then the man opened a door quite suddenly and abruptly. People not expecting it, could get startled by it. She followed the man into the courtyard and then told her to introduce herself.
"I am Rinkou Uchiha." She bowed a little.
