Personality

This stallion is a bit strange to say the least, but that might just be his religion which he finds completely normal. There is nothing strange at all about sacrifices and the like, drinking blood and providing the gods with stew and beer and the occasional drink of blood during wartime.

Azrael is a rather calm individual when tending to his garden and livestock, Containing Moles he domesticated himself. Being a Priest of the Buried god primarily and the Bleeding god during wartime is tough work. Even not in wartime the Bleeding god demands sacrifice, though not of enemy blood until then.

He can be a fierce fighter when provoked Azrael is an excellent hunter, he'd have to be in order to catch deer without fang or claw for the Bleeding God. Azrael is protector of their little plot. He protects both his sister and his friend Sbande.

History

"A long, long time ago, a mare named Lantana was madly in love with a stallion named Lacuna. But Lacuna betrayed Lantana's trust and she murdered him, drowning him in deep water and leaving his body behind. They had already had children, but unable to face them after their father broke her heart, she abandoned them. Duranta and Azrael were adopted by worshipers of a religion called the Grave Path, and they were raised without knowledge of their parents."

Azrael is a priest of The Buried god and The Bleeding God whose domains are respectively Earth and War. Azarel is also an excellent hunter despite not having teeth his hooves are sharp and he's quick who else could catch the deer for the Bleeding god? Azrael also partakes in the cannibalism when the meat of other starborn are available

He lives with his sister and their friend Sbande on their little farm, sewing his garden which contains a variety of root type vegetables and some wheat and tending to the moles he uses as sacrifices to the Buried god, Azrael also makes beer from the wheat with Sbande. .

Notes

The Grave Path is a religion that worships…well, death. It consists of the eight Gods of the Living and the eight Ladies of the Dead. Each god is a god of some aspect of some part of the natural world, and each goddess is the psychopomp for the dead. The gods take care of the living, while the goddesses prepare the dead for reincarnation back into the living world.

Each pair of deities has a specific drink and meat dish that is consumed at their ceremonies (prepared or consumed with herbal compounds making it easier to digest the meat; members of the Grave Path may grow used to consuming meat if they do it regularly enough). However, each deity has their own sacrifice. At ceremonies, the food and drink of the god is consumed and a sacrifice is made to summon the god or invoke them. Gods may be communed or communicated with at these ceremonies. Priests and priestesses often double as healers, witches, or warlocks, and may serve specific gods or many or all of them.

-Following a defeat in battle, a quick and furtive ceremony to Madame Web is held. For this reason, priests and priestesses of the Captive God and Madame Web often keep extra stores of their food and drink of choice. The food is usually consumed on the go. She requires no sacrifice, for she is assumed to be everywhere.

They keep the skulls of their dead comrades in the hopes that it will cause them to be reincarnated back into the family.

"The skulls of deceased members of the religion are kept by their family in hopes that they are reincarnated into their family. These skulls are venerated and decorated at private altars in the home. The skulls of great leaders, such as the founder of their religion, are kept at their original temple. Each new settlement sets aside an altar for their founder’s skull."

In colder climates where winters are longer or more brutal, there is a variation on the religion called the Wintry Grave. Two extra deities are added: the Frozen God and Madame Ice. Their preferred food is steak and preferred drink is vodka (in this variation, the Storm-Struck God and Madame Lightning prefer mead), with lynx and owl sacrifices respectively. A ceremony for the Frozen God begins the winter season, and a ceremony for Madame Ice ends winter. As one would expect, weather priests of both variations get into flaming rows when they meet—inevitably when both are totally drunk.
