Hearing the bootsteps of her master-at-arms behind her, Katherine assembled her face into something less pathetic and more captain-like. "We've enough crew to man the ship adequately, the rest were just drunken layabouts we're better off without if they can't even hear the cast off call." Katherine sneered. Her mood had not improved.
She shrugged lazily in response to the other question, not bothering to answer until Jonathan repeated it a few moments later. "We're not hunting anything, ghoulish or otherwise. It was just an excuse to get out of that godforsaken scrapheap of a port." The captain missed being able to stop in more legitimate ports without a great deal of covert operations and heavy disguise. Outlaw towns were a grand idea and all, but it was really a matter of quality.
Shivering in the chill wind that had suddenly sprung up, Katherine thought better of her comment. "Tell the crew to keep an eye out for ships, just the same. The boy may be a brainless waste of space but he did see something out there, if it's a lost merchant we'll have our prey practically on a platter in this fog."

Jonathan nods a bit at Katherine's reply, thinking to himself a moment. He sticks his thumb into his mouth to wet it and then up into the air, checking the wind and humidity. "Do you not think it is a bit odd that there is a fogbank here and now?" he asks with a frown. "The air is too dry and too warm for one."

Katherine shifted uncomfortably, she'd been in the same clothes for nearly three days running now, and while this would normally be barely worthy of notice to her, they seemed to be getting tighter with wear. Perhaps the odd weather Jonathan had pointed out was affecting the fabric. Especially about her middle.
Thinking fondly of her cabin and the deep chests stuffed full of no doubt more comfortable attire, Katherine only gave the man a curt glare before turning back to observe the fog. "Experienced sailors are used to all kinds of weather phenomena at sea. I myself once saw a great storm that would have surely sunk our flimsy craft simply halt and turn back the way it came, as if pushed by some heavenly hand." Katherine could not remember if this event had actually happened to her, but it was the spirit of the thing that mattered.
"All manner of things occur at sea that are inexplicable on land, Mr Graves, and this mist is hardly worthy of mention." She put as much scorn and condescension into her voice as she could manage, which was not hard, given her mood. Feeling her coat give another unwelcome pinch, the captain turned on her heel and headed back towards her cabin, calling over her shoulder as she went. "Send for me when you see something, if you see anything."

Gabriella walked into her quarters and closed the door, she sat down on a chair and wiped the few tears from her eyes. "Get it together Gabriella..." she said to herself, "you're the Second Mate, and crying over someone's death will only make you look soft!"
She looked around for a moment, more tears had formed in her eyes so she wiped them away. She turned to look at the door, "Alright Gabriella, it's time to forget about him and get back on the deck!" Gabriella laughed at herself, she wouldn't be able to forget about him, but she was sure that she needed to tuck her thoughts of him to the back of her mind for now.
"Alright, I'm ready," she said softly and she exited her quarters, even though she had only been in there for around ten minutes. Gabriella walked back to where Rachel and Katherine were, though it seemed that Katherine had left. She looked out to the sea, and wondered if they were going to attempt to sail into that fog.

"As you wish, Ma'am," Jonathan replied with a nod as Katherine turned to leave for her cabin. He didn't want his advice to be ignored, but at the same time he didn't want to rile up his former lover any more. In his experience, however, he knew that the Captain did have a fair share of intelligence that she keeps hidden from the rest of the crew, and perhaps she knows the oddity before them just as he does. However, Jonathan did have business with Rachel at the moment, though it was something he did not much enjoy. "All cannon shot, powder, and muskets accounted for, Ma'am," the Englishman says, taking out his cargo manifest and offering it to the Master-At-Arms if she wants to take a look for herself. "I also took the liberty of seperating the powder kegs into each corner of the hold. If one explodes in battle, the rest are safe, as will be the ship as a whole."

Rachel turned to look at Jonathan, and took the manifest he held out. She looked through it and made sure everything was in line, and everything seemed to be alright. After handing back the manifest, Rachel said to Jonathan, "Good work Graves, seems everything is alright," it was also the first compliment she had ever given to the man since she was sure he was really a navy spy
She nodded to him at the mention of the powder kegs being moved to be more safe, "Again, good work Graves," she then turned away from the man and went to go check the weapons, and everything else in the hold.

Jonathan nods as he takes back the cargo manifest. "Yes, Ma'am," the Englishman answers the woman. Even though he technically was the same rank as Rachel, he still considered her to be a superior as she had more experience on the ship than him. He'd rather show respect to those who unnerve him than indignity. As she left, Jonathan ordered a crewmate with a musket to climb the ropes up to the crow's nest to scout around, and provide covering fire if any action starts.

Letting out another breath, Shun stretched his arms slightly before glancing over at a couple of the others, including the man clad in the Naval uniform. Shaking his head at that, he just waited a little longer before walking over to one of them to ask for any other orders.
"Is there anything else that needs to be done?" he asked, avoiding any eye contact with the one the woman called Graves. Why the guy wanted to go around in that uniform, he didn't know, nor did he really want to know. But if possible, he was going to try and minimalize any contact with him.

Alexandra Hunter yawns boredly as she is under the deck, leaning against the wall. She have been steering clear of the officers because she doesn't exactly feel like getting ordered around but she knows that she will have to face the music some day. She stares at her bare feet wonderingly, she bought the boots that day she met Jonathan's fiancee but it mysteriously disappeared the very day. Her pert nose crinkles up as she sighs in annoyance, she gets up and slowly walks up to the first deck knowing that she is going to get punished for hiding out.

Jonathan opens his book and turns to face the man. Someone who he hasn't seen before, apparently. "Name and position?" he asks, taking a pen from his jacket and scrolling down through the crew roster. Jonathan has seen him on the Dementia a time or two before, but never really made much contact. Unfortunately for both men, with the threat of combat looming high, casual conversation was not the order of day.

Alexandra squints her eyes automatically to make herself look like she just woke up and she looks around at the ship, seeing some people she recognized and some that she haven't met before. Jonathan's voice floats over to her and she stiffens up, she frowns to herself because she have been avoiding Jonathan for some time for unknown reasons. She clears her throat as she walks over to him to see if he have any jobs for her to do or if she need to sign up. She stands behind a male dutifully and laces her fingers in front of her waiting for her turn to talk with Jonathan.

"Shun Korvas; deck hand," he muttered, though still audible enough for Jonathan to be able to understand what he had just said.
After his reply, he glanced over his shoulder slightly as he wondered where Ara had disappeared off to, only to see a different female behind him. Ara, most likely was off on her own orders at the moment, but he hadn't really spotted her at all. So for now, he just pushed that thought aside and awaited what the Naval-officer-looking guy had to say.
Never thought I'd be taking orders from someone like him... that's for sure, he thought rather bitterly.

Jonathan scans his logbook for a moment and finds Shun's name. "Ah. Joined not too long ago, I see," he comments. His eyes rise up from the book to Shun as his voice continues, "Are you handy with a musket? If not, you will still be needed in the crow's nest as a lookout for any ships in this fog."
Jonathan's attention is turned to Alexandra, standing right behind him. His eyebrows raise in amusement as he asks, "What happened to your boots?"

Alexandra tries not to wince as Jonathan noticed her, she chews on her lower lip as she shrugs offhandly. She hopes to come off as nonchalant as she meets Jonathan's eyes. "They got stolen the very next day after I bought them." She simply says as she lifts her palms up when she shrugs with a smile on her face. "I will probably buy another pair and chain them to my feet."

Nodding slightly at the second thing Jonathan had said, Shun headed off towards the mast silently. Under other circumstances, he might not have really gone up to the man to ask for orders, or really follow them much, but he had a feeling it would benefit his own welfare here.
As swiftly as he could, he scaled up to the crows nest and began to scout out through the dense fog. He could normally see decently well in the darkness, but fog was a different matter. The man would need to strain his eyes more to be able to pick out anything in the distance.
And as it stood, there was nothing around that deemed to be dangerous or anything worth noting.
