they cut down bandwidth for peer to peer sharing and torrents, not regular internet. even if you email a song they could consider it illegal

hey rc
laine // ... is your school funded by the music industry or something? honestly it probably takes more money to monitor all your e-mails than they lose in song revenue....

we're a tech school so they're pretty uptight about copyright violations after UPenn got in trouble. and it doesn't take more money if you put on a filter
copyrights and patents are touchy

the RAC. it's easier to track smaller schools. much harder to track large companies like verizon. and I don't think they're that rightous when you're talking about intellectual property

not saying that I don't do it, but I try to minimize how much I do it. (though I haven't really needed my ipod since I'm always at my comp doing hw, I really need new music)

RC // Yea... I mean... I get it... its their 'property'... but I seriously don't feel bad about it... its not like music stars aren't rolling around in piles of cash -___- piles of cash i need for things like... food... and rent... and books
Laine // do they can't just filter out every single mp3 file... (haha at a tech school you'd think that someone would have figured out to get around it...)
but anyways... how I used to do it wasn't really downloading music anyways, it was recording the sound off of youtube videos... which is probably harder to track

@shadowed: i just think they're fighting a losing battle and i bet there are plenty of people in the music industry (or any industry for that matter) that skirt the line between right and wrong in other matters. I wouldn't even be surprised of those people download stuff themselves

I've heard that kids find a way around it. esp the comp sci kids since they can get through the bandwidth limitation, but I don't want to get fined. 100 USD is 2 weeks of groceries and I'm not going to take the risk. I just have a large youtube playlist XD
