Brooke giggled as Miyuki helped her up again. "Fox!" she beamed, reaching up to touch Miyuki's ear as she crouched down. "Qui't fox."
Timaeus chuckled softly, watching the two. Despite being three years old, Brooke was speaking pretty well, lisping on only a few sounds.
"I think she's intrigued by you," he told Miyuki, amused. "She's never seen anyone not an elf before, other than Uncle Luk."

"Oh... and mommy says that people from Gaia are really really rare," Miyuki nodded.
That made sense to her, though she wasn't a fox though she could be fox like when she wanted to be. She looked back at Brooke.
"I'm not a fox, I'm a kitsune."

"Rare indeed," Timaeus murmured, watching the two children.
Brooke looked thoughtful at that. "Ki ... kiss ... kitsu ... nay!" she tried to repeat the funny word. She sucked on her tongue thoughtfully, her lips pursing together. "Kits ... ne ..."

Miyuki nodded, she thought Brooke was really good at this.
"That's right. Kitsune," she replied as she sat down on the floor across from Brooke.
It was a lot easier than standing up all the time.

"Kits ... u ... ne," Brooke repeated quietly before resuming sucking on her tongue. She stared up at Miyuki again, her dark eyes thoughtful. Clearly, she was processing this new bit of information as best as her young mind could manage.
"What is kits-u-ne?" she asked finally, her brow furrowing. "Kits-u-ne look like fox!"

"I don't look that much like a fox do I?" Miyuki blinked at her.
Sure she had foxy tails and foxy ears, but it was nothing like her fox form. Her fox form was faster, went on four feet, she didn't have feet she had paws in that form.

Earendil had been learning Japanese from Lin, and he looked at Miyuki a bit strangely.
"Kitsune means fox," he told her, wondering if she had somehow not known that. "Your ears and tails are like a fox."
Brooke nodded as if that settled the matter. "Fox," she said firmly.

"But I'm not the animal fox," Miyuki replied, "Well... normally I'm not."
It was her mother who fortunately had taken the time out to learn more about Miyuki's species that could answer that.
"That's because kitsunes at one time kept hidden and used their fox form very often so locals couldn't tell the difference between an animal and a magical being. Today, kitsune has two meanings, it's original mean... fox and it refers to people like yourself who has fox ears, one tail or more and the ability to shift into a fox."
Among other abilities but if Miyuki hadn't uncovered that, Lin wasn't going to say anything about it. She wasn't sure how she felt about the idea of illusions.

The language lesson went entirely over Brooke's head, and she simply climbed to her feet instead.
"I going to see when dinner is," she announced, pretending that it was all beneath her. And with that, she headed towards the kitchen.
Timaeus just laughed. "That's her reaction when she doesn't understand something," he chuckled once she was safely in the kitchen and out of earshot.

Lin giggled at that, "Sort of reminds me of Vergil, only more... refined I guess in a way."
Vergil also had that habit of leaving when he just couldn't understand, but to be fair, he got frustrated more easily and it was almost always on social matters.
Miyuki certainly didn't understand why Brooke just walked off like that, but she shrugged and instead went over to climb on her ada's lap.

"At least she doesn't try to argue everything," Timaeus grinned. "Vergil has gotten a bit better since he grew, but he does tend to overdramatize everything."
Suddenly River ran into the room, her eyes filled with excitement. She tucked her long golden hair behind her ear and clasped her hands together.
"Lin, Earendil," she said in a tone that clearly meant that she wanted something from them, "can I ask you something?"

Lin tilted her head curiously because she knew River tended to get excited, but it seemed there was something that really caught her attention this time.
"You may ask..." Lin replied curiously.

Earendil glanced at Timaeus to see if he knew what was going on, but Timaeus just smiled, his expression unchanging. Curiously, Earendil turned back to River. "What's on your mind?" he asked her.
River's eyes were bright. "Well, I spoke with Mother and Father, and they said that since Neko and Nako are going with you on your journey, that if you agreed to it, I might accompany you! May I? Please?"

Lin chuckled at that glancing at Timaeus. She was not at all surprised that River of all people would want to go, she was the adventurous one after all.
"I don't see why not," she glanced at Earendil, "What do you think?"
Honestly, one more person didn't make a difference to her and she knew River would enjoy it.

Earendil smiled softly. "If your parents have given you permission, River, far be it from me to countermand their decision."
River let out a loud squeal and darted forward, pouncing on Lin and Earendil and hugging both of them. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" she cried gleefully.
Earendil chuckled and put one hand on River's back. "You're welcome," he murmured.
