Feline carefully sat down in the shade where the Overseer had invited her to, making sure her tail was not going to be squashed. She wasn't sure why she felt so comfortable with him, but she was happy to be having a plesant conversation with someone.

"I can see what you are saying. It's hard to not want to stop something like that and the only thing they will respect is force."

She looked at the Overseer relaxing in the shade. It seemed like the war had really taken it's toll on the poor man and something as simple as sitting in the shade of a palm tree was really doing him a whole lot of good.

"Are you glad it's over, one way or another?" She asked, delighting in the feel of the breeze ruffling her feathers and was enjoying how it made the Overseers eyes appear and disappear behind his shaggy hair at will.

"I ..." And there he stalled when her next question swung into the realms of his personal opinion, caught between trying to form his next word. That was a loaded question, because he honestly did not know what it was like before the war, or for that fact, during it, and all he had on his hands was the aftermath. The shattered aftermath. His thoughts muddled, he scratched the back of his head as he stared at the ground.

"I am not satisfied with how came to an end, and I would not say it is not over either." He gathered a fistful of sand in his hand, and itched his nose against the back of his arm before he looked back up at her. "Would you?"

Feline pondered that for a moment, for it wasn't a simple question to answer.

"Do wars ever end?" She said after much thought. "Even when the fighting has stopped the world stays changed and never returns to what it once was." All this sad talk was getting to be a bit too much. She could see the Overseer was having a rough time of it too. There had been too much sadness in the last few weeks.

She wanted to lighten things back up. On a whim she quickly pulled out one of her feathers that was comming loose and held it out to the Overseer.

"In my lands we have a custom of trading feathers with thoose we wish to befriend." She quickly dropped it in his lap, afraid of rejection. " I hope that you would not mind." She smiled a little hesitantly waiting for his reaction.

((will have to be going to bed soon... sad ))

Did wars ever really end? Posed with this new rhetorical question, it quieted the Overseer again, but now with a careful and deliberate silence. But then if they had not gone to war, what would have happened? Would the Sentinel's bid for dominance have been stopped by the King of Halloween anyway? Would his trick have simply been a week of anarchy? Feline was right to feel that things had gotten too heavy, because he was becoming mired again in the 'what if's and he had a hopeless daze to him when she dropped the feather on his leg.

He was absolutely delighted, as any child with a new gift and his gloom and doom cleared for sunnier skies. Naturally he ran his fingers up the spine of the feather and he paused to search for something he could possibly trade with her. He had no personal items to speak of. Even the robe he wore was not his own.
"I would trade with you, if I had anything worth trading." He held up the feather between them, offering it if she wanted it back. "It is beautiful, thank you still."

It made Feline feel good to brighten up the Overseers face.

"Do not worry about having nothing to trade. My friendship is still open and willing." She paused wondering if she had translated that last part right. "What I mean is I know you have no thing to trade like a feather so it's ok. We can be freinds still." She paused again, wondering why her English was failing her now, she just felt so flustered.

She looked up and noticed the sun was nearing overhead.

"I'm so sorry. I must go now. I'm now late for more spell training." She said hopping up, brushing sand off of her robes. "It's bad enough learning magic once in a life time, but twice....." She sighed.

"I would love to see and talk with you again!" She smiled one last time at the Overseer. "We are friends, yes?"

She then ran down the path a few steps before lifting off with her wings and making her way over to the Practice Hall.

( Off to bed...Night Oro..thank you, it's been fun!!! )

(( Metaburo just mailed me asking for a recap on the events of the RP so far. So, since I spent all that time writing it, I don't see why I shouldnt post it here =D Any people still confused, this is the ultimate guide!

~~~~~
The main things that happened on the first day after the end of the yet-to-be-published comic were the sparring session between Coline and the Captain that ended in Coline fainting from exhaustion and Panda's experiment gone awry. Introductions and scene setting and such; characters began training their skills.
About 5 days later, Coline wakes up from the effects of the sleeping potion she was fed to counter her exhaustion. Winter has begun to encroach on the island. Lorika reprimands her, and she later has another conversation with the Captain, who is increasingly being reminded painfully of his past over this and the next few days. Panda has an angry encounter with some of his students, including Evelyn and Bakar, who later get in trouble again for blowing up a TV.
That night is when things begin to pick up. We learn more about Lorika as she sits in front of her mirror. The scene then switches to the next morning. The Captain and Coline, who lost her trident after the sparring session and is still searching for it, converse informally before Coline attempts to retrieve her weapon from the Armory. Pseudoverseer is washed up on the beach and encounters Bapp and, later, Kyo. He is also beaten up by Harata. A feeling of impending trouble grips the island; the birds and weather seems to be going wild. Eventually Pseudoverseer is led to the Temple, where things go mad. Lorika ushers him to the Sanctuary and explains the situation; she notes there is something different about him, though she seems to be even more fond of him than before because of it. Pseudoverseer, however, is overwhelmed by his position, though he tries hard to fulfill it. While all of the Order is summoned to the Temple by the ringing of the bell and a feast is prepared, he manages to slip away from Evelyn and escape. Several hours pass while the Order assembles. Eventually, Lorika realises that something is very wrong, and goes out to search for the Overseer, leaving the Captain in charge - he directs the attention of the crowd to the feast, and heads down there with Coline. Harata, seemingly trying to redeem herself, directs the Priestess in the direction of the Overseer. She finds him, and convinces him to come back with her, but lodge in the Captain's quarters. Coline runs out on him, ever mindful of her duty above all things. Meanwhile, Evelyn finds comfort in a small bird she names Lite and her friendship with Harata, who is herself struggling with the implications of her past.
The next morning, Lorika and the Captain converse at breakfast following the startling revelation that she can speak the language of his birth. Both head out - he to the training grounds, her to pick up on the Overseer. When Lorika reaches the cabin, however, the Overseer has already left - she catches up on him, and the pair struggle to converse without some sort of turmoil, as yesterday. Eventually Lorika ends up making a fool of herself in front of some acolytes in her determination to show the Overseer her loyalty to him. She runs back to the Temple, and he follows, where they have a small conversation before she makes her exit. The Overseer then spends some time conversing about the Order with Feline Goddess, before heading to the Training Grounds, where Coline has become embroiled in a conflict with Harata. The SINner's tactics are not appreciated, and Coline leaves the sparring session injured and despising her. She collapses, and the Overseer alleviates her pain. Unfortunately, she then prostrates herself in front of him, mortally offending the Captain, who had hoped as his feelings grew for her that she would share his views on religion.
Aaaand that's the point we're at now.
{{Okay, diving in...}}
"Pheuf! That feast was a lot of work, and I didn't even get to go! I guess I'll just eat the leftovers for lunch... Good lord, I'm hungry," she said, puffing as she hung her apron on the outside of the door. She was a little sad; she had been stuck in the kitchen for days now, trying to get her pots and pans in order, but it just had such a high front-load of work to do that she was nearly burnt out. "Stupid captain, ordering a FEAST on such short notice!"
She stumbled down the few steps, and walked towards the seashore. Ah, it was cooler out here, more to her liking. She rubbed the fur on her arms a bit, trying to let out the stored heat.
Her bare, clawed feet crunched the snowy sand a little as she stepped into the waves.
She looked out for a moment at the stormy seas, feeling calm, breathing in the sea air deeply.
To her left, Meta heard some calm talking, then saw a girl pass her.
When she looked at the other person who had been with the girl, her eyes widened.
"OHMICLAM. IT'S THE OVERSEER! Oh, you look famished, come here and eat with me!"
((I'm finding it very hard to jump back into the rp... What do I post...
We need a battle scene with remnant SINners or something so everyone can show off their super cool fighting skills.
Because you can never go wrong with fighting scenes.))
(( if I can pull the Christmas event together you'll get that chance! ))
PostPosted: Sun Dec 13, 2009 12:57 pm
In the end, Lorika had such a hard time working on the Overservice with all of her swirling thoughts she headed outside. Glad she wasn't waylaid by anyone, her thoughts turned to the Overseer for a moment. But no... she didn't need to go looking for him again. He'd probably be glad to be rid of her for now.
She headed up to her favourite spot for watching the sunrise; a grassy hill in front of the Temple shielded by palm trees, just overlooking the beach. She sat down beneath the tree at the top, breathing a little heavily from her walk up. This seemed to be the only place where she could sit and escape the worries that kept her awake at night and plagued her through the day.
The Captain, having resigned to walk back to his cabin and take shelter in the cool, dark rooms, instead found himself walking a little further, almost wishing he could keep walking forever. Having headed down to the southern beach, his keen eyesight picked up a shape on the hillock overlooking from the direction of the Temple. As he got closer, he was able to pick up a smartly coiled head of green hair, and knew that it was the High Priestess. The anger that had gripped him having begun to fade away, he suddenly wanted an impartial ear to talk to. There was no way to get up there from the beach - it was too steep - so he instead moved to the right, through the mass of palms and ferns, until he reached the other side and was able to walk up.
"You look about as desolate as I feel," he said, coming up behind her. To noone's surprise, Lorika nearly jumped out of her skin.
"Dear clam, Jessie!" she breathed, putting a hand to her chest "You enjoy giving people heart attacks, don't you?"
"It would not be surprising if I said I did," he replied, kneeling down beside her.
"I was expecting you to make some sort of comment about Drow having no hearts, and therefore no compassion for the state of those belonging to others," she teased, sitting up a little straighter than before.
He raised his visible eyebrow at her. "I'm afraid you rather misjudge how clever I can be. Either that, or how much stock I put on my heritage."
"I'm sure you're right about the second part, at least."
A silence passed as the two looked out onto the ocean.
Giving a little cough, Jessie was the first to speak. "What are you doing out here, away from your flock... and the Overseer?"
"Oh, have you seen him? He was asking about you earlier this morning." Lorika inquired. She didn't sound too concerned, but inside the mention of the Overseer made her stomach wring itself out.
"Unfortunately yes, I have seen him," he gave a deep sigh "Which reminds me; Coline should be paying you a visit later. She had another little accident while sparring with that insufferable SIN girl."
Lorika was surprised by the harshness in his voice. "Captain, what's the matter?"
"I'm not sure, to be honest. She took a rather nasty tumble when the girl pulled a silly stunt -"
"Not with Coline - with you!" she cried "What's gotten into you, to speak of her in such a cold tone?"
He shook his head. "Oh, nothing really. I've just been having some nasty reminders lately. You can't understand."
"No," she answered quietly "I've been experiencing some terrible flashbacks this past day, on top of my usual worries. It's... not nice," she shifted around, slumping a little. After a few moments, she giggled, despite her eyes having sprung several leaks again "We're a right pair, aren't we? Pasts coming back to haunt us for the silliest reasons."
The captain looked at her in surprise, then down at the floor. He seemed to be mulling things over.
"Yes... I suppose you're right, Lorika," he said quietly "It was a rather silly reason."
"Hm?" she looked at him.
"Nothing. Nevermind," he answered.
"Hm."
Many more minutes passed, the two lost in their thoughts. For Jessie, his emotions seemed to have been abated. Unfortunately for Lorika, hers remained as turbulent as ever. As she watched the gently lapping waves against the blue sky, however, she began to feel the cares slipping away. She could almost forget the presence of the man beside her, absorbed as she was in her surroundings.
That is, until he broke the silence. "You know, Priestess," he began "I don't believe you give yourself enough credit. I feel much better about my situation, having spoken with you."
She stared at him, incredulous. "But we haven't even spoken... I didn't give you any advice."
"I don't think you're a person who needs to give advice to comfort the people around her, if I'm completely honest."
Lorika wasn't quite sure whether to feel flattered or bowled over with his compliment. "I... thank you, Jessie," she said, her tone best described as pleasantly surprised "You're not so bad yourself."
To this, Jessie gave a small chuckle. "So I've been told."
Then, they simply sat, staring out at the sea in a kind of silent understanding, and neither said anything more.
Harata wandered. She was bored. Looking for some one, maybe. But people seemed fairly boring.
(( I must have missed your post when catching up, Metaburo! I am sorry. ))
Frowning slightly, the Overseer nodded, expressing that he understood if she had to go, and only disappointed that their conversation was cut prematurely short. As he waved goodbye to Feline, he could only sit in shock as he had the chance to watch the winged girl break gravity's hold and take off into the sky. And he found himself with another moment to himself.
Leaning back on one hand, he twirled the feather between his finger and thumb and his gaze dropped to study the brilliant sheen of color. The gift of the feather was a nicer gesture than perhaps Feline knew, it being the first tangible symbol of friendship he had ever received. It put him in a better mood, and when he heard another new voice calling to him, he met it with a smile.
Squinting in the sunlight, he rolled up to his bare feet at the invitation, and walked over to join Meta. Gnawing on the quill of his feather, the Overseer stopped dead on the edge of the beach's shore, so abruptly it was like he hit an invisible wall. He was scanning the skies warily and sure enough, he fell back a step when he heard the cry of a sea gull.
Harata was wandering on the beach, sling shot in hand. She was planning on hunting, not seagulls, for they tasted bad, but other birds. A thrush perhaps, or a robin. She looked, and found it a strain not to laugh. The ever present seagulls seemed to have it in for the Overseer. She considered the sling shot. Should I? She shrugged, and sent a rock hurtling towards a seagull. They don't taste too bad.
