Blade had to trace back a few steps, but he reached the gills within seconds.
"Ha! There mine!" he said, grabbing them. The whole city became normal once again, and Blade stood there, the shroud over one arm ,and the Serpent's Tail and Gills of Hamachi in hand.

"No... No... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Shade roared, feeling the shroud stripped from him, as though one was stripping away his very soul. He fell to his knees, looking at who had beaten him.

Kikyo raced over to Shade.
"You O.K?" she asked, not getting his sudden freak out. They could always win the shroud back.

Chase stepped up next to Blade.
"Well done," he said, looking at Shade and Kikyo. "Let's go, Blade." he turned and began walking away.

Blade smirked, and followed Chase. He had one, and proven he was trainable.

Kikyo's question was only answered by sporadic breaths. Shade threw one hand to his heart and used the other to hold himself up as he pitched forward. His eyes were wide, and a dark emptiness could be seen within them. That emptiness was worse than a cold shadow of death. It was the sign of one who has suffered a wound worse than death.

"Dojo!" Kikyo yelled, trying to hold Shade up. "Dojo! Get your but over here!" she snapped, as Dojo came over, already in flying mode. He waited for Kikyo to Shade on his back for take off.

Shade's mind was shutting down, his eyes glazed. He wanted to die, but couldn't. Something was keeping him there. Making him relive that moment, like someone just kept hitting rewind on his brain and playing the scene over and over again.

Kikyo dragged Shade on to Dojo, and he took off, grabbing Tomha on the way out. Kikyo made sure he wasn't going to fall off the dragon in mid flight.

((be back in about fifteen minutes. I need a shower!))

The worst part of it was the laughter. The cold, malicious laughter in his head that accompanied the replays. It was joined with a thousand laugh tracks, with some sort of happy song playing in the background. Shade's body wouldn't respond, his mind was no longer in control. He was trapped within the nightmare.

Soon Dojo landed back at the temple, and Kikyo dragged Shade to Yinsai.
"I dunno what happened!" she said, looking scared. "He was in a showdown, lost the Shroud of Shadows, then this happened...Any ideas?" She looked at her master, hoping he did.

"Put him in his room, and leave him rest a little while is all I can think of," Yin said said, helping Kikyo carry Shade to his room. "Then we'll see what we can do after he's fully conscious again. Kikyo, go get some rest or something. You need it."

Kikyo nodded, and wandered off to take a quick shower.

Shade's mind reconnected with his eyes again as he felt himself being placed down. He could see he was in what he assumed was his room at the temple, and he tried regaining arm control. He reached for something, anything he could cover himself with, and hid under the blanket, shivering and breathing.

Kikyo finished her shower, then began to search the temple for something to do, and to let her hair dry out. She decided that she would train, mostly because she hadn't in a while. She walked out into the bright sunlight, and shielded her eyes.
"Gah! That's too bright!" she said, sighing.

Shade continued to hide himself. He lay there, staring at the walls, unmoving, the same emptiness, soullessness in his eyes.

Kikyo took up a spot near the pit of stakes. She took a deep breath, and jumped onto one of the stakes. She remained balanced, and then jumped onto the next spike. She was trying to get across without drawing any blood or getting injured.

There was a flickering of something in the base of Shade's brain, a small, dark feeling that would not leave. It was not the hopelessness and emptiness of before, but something different. Not bright like hope or soft like love, but raw, cold, and burning. He felt it there, and wondered what it was that he felt now.

Kikyo balanced herself on one foot, and pulled the other under her body. She was standing on one spike, and needed to get to the other side. She decided she'd try with her wind this time. She took a deep breath, getting ready. The wind began swirling around her.

"What are you doing?"1 Dojo asked, watching Kikyo.

"GAH! DOJO!" Kikyo yelled, glaring at the dragon. Not only had she lost focus, but she almost fell on the spikes below.
