Rebecca chuckled a little. "I would believe that. I worked there for years, and I never once seen the Joker or his girlfriend come into the Lounge. I imagine there's some story that would go along with that. I've never heard of it though. It's easy to imagine someone like the Joker causing enough trouble to make Cobblepot angry." she said, then poked at what was left of her steak. "I can also see him not allowing the Joker into the Lounge just because of the trouble he might bring. He's not fond of things getting broken in the Lounge, customers scared off or worse..." then she chuckled a bit again. "You should see how red his face gets when we have super heroes literally crash through the ceiling. I imagine Joker would attract Batman rather easily. And with some of the other things that go on behind the scenes... well, that wouldn't make it a good day for anyone there."

"The Joker certainly grabs attention wherever he goes, that's for sure," Julianne said in agreement. "None of it good." The beginnings of a smile started to return to her. "Remember the time he turned half of Gotham's fish into Joker fish? It was all over the news. I didn't eat fish for half a year after that."

Rebecca chuckled. "Remember it? Oh it was terrible. Mother didn't allow anything that was even close to water into our house. We were all pretty much sick of chicken and meat after that. And the Lounge pretty much only has seafood on the menu." she said with a smile. "Come to think of it, that might be one of the reasons Cobblepot won't allow him in the Lounge. There was a serious drop in customers that year who came for a good meal. Despite Cobblepots insistent claim that the food was safe, only the brave customers, or the ones craving fish would try any."

Julianne smirked a little when Rebecca said the name, 'Cobblepot'. "You know, you don't necessarily have to call him by his real name anymore. Use the name that the news gave him. You know, the one he hates." With the topic away from her friend, Julianne was much closer to her usual self. "You can do it."

Rebecca smirked awkwardly and glanced down at her plate. She did notice that the change of topic had cheered the other woman up a bit, so she was willing to indulge with the current topic. "Oh, alright." she said as she looked back up at her. "Penguin. Penguin had insisted the fish were safe to eat." she said. Then she paused a moment and giggled to herself.
"Heavens that sounds so odd to say." she said, then giggled again. "You know... I've been up and into his office once. You wouldn't believe all of the bird themed memorabilia he keeps up there. And when he gets REALLY angry or surprised, hahaha... he still squawks." she said, smiling from ear to ear. "He means to say "what" or just growl in general... but it comes out as, hahaha... oh heavens..." she said, then began laughing too hard to finish.
Oddly enough.. it felt good to finally talk about something like this. To laugh about it. Girls lost their heads over a lot less at the Lounge.

Julianne laughed with her, finding Rebecca's laugh rather infectious. As she calmed down a little, she said "So you mean, he SQUAWKS?" Instead of just saying 'squawks', however, she made a squawking sound to emphasize the ludicrousness, which sent her into more laughter. Hey, it wasn't every day that you got a really good laugh at the expense of a major criminal.

Rebecca burst into laughter along with her. It might not be 'everyday' for Julianne, but it was a 'never' thing for Rebecca. With the debt they had been trapped in with the Penguin... he wasn't a laughing matter at all. Damn if it didn't feel good to laugh about it now. It was almost therapeutic.
She laughed until she felt calm enough to let it die down, wiping a few tears from her eyes. "Oh g-... hahaha.... oh I haven't laughed like that in years. Hehe... Oh, that felt good... hehe..."

"Glad I could help with that," Julianne said, still chuckling, "Changing the subject only slightly here, but out of curiosity, was there anything good about the Lounge at all? In your opinion, that is." Julianne was curious if Rebecca had found anything there that made it bearable, like she herself had found in Vandal Savage. Despite the now-likely drop in sex, he was still a friend of hers, and she hoped that he felt the same.

Rebecca paused for a long moment to think. Finally she frowned and shook her head. "For the most part... no. Not unless you're a certain type of girl anyway." she replied. Then she sighed and leaned back in her seat.
"Clock in, get yourself tucked into the uniform, make sure you're pretty enough to go out and charm the customers while you wait on them... try to make sure they're happy and earn a tip. Then clock out and go home. That's a good day. That's an uneventful day. Occasionally you'd get a customer that was pleasant to wait on. Good looking, genuine, wasn't burning holes through your costume with their eyes... that sort of thing." she said, then smiled a bit. "The guards were also very good about making sure we were taken care of. Someone got out of line with us, they'd straighten up a customer real quick. Walk us out to our cars or a cab if we weren't comfortable.. I suppose the bennifits were good too if you could get them. Full medical, dental, everything insurance. He made sure the girls were taken care of should something happen. Unfortunatly there was always the risk of being replaced or sent to work behind the scenes if you were gone from work too long. Maternity leave or medical leave. If Penguin couldn't get a new girl to replace you, then your spot was safe. Or... he got a new girl and they didn't fare well you'd get your job back..." she continued. Then smirked a bit and sighed.
"I had one or two friends down at the Lounge. One worked the floors with me, and the other was one of the higher-up girls. Sammantha had done waitress jobs before, but her resteraunt had gone under. The only other thing she could find would be... on the streets. She couldn't do that, and she really didn't think she could handle it. She was pretty enough and experienced enough to work at the Lounge though. She was a good girl... didn't really belong there, but she needed work. She was... genuine compared to some of the other girls who worked there. Same with Emily. She worked as more of an assistant to Cobblepot... filled in for other girls when it was needed. But she didn't really... flaunt or gossip like some of the other girls who were higher on the totem pole did. She wasn't permiscuous or mean-spirited... and actually preferred to help the other girls when they were having a hard time." she said, then chuckled a bit. "I watched her break the fingers of one of the girl's jealous boyfriend. He'd harrassed the girl and slapped her when she was done with work one day. Emily marched out the door, knocked him on the ground, twisted his arm behind his back, and broke both his index fingers. Yelled at him about so much as looking at the girl the wrong way again. Then shoved him onto the sidewalk and pulled the girl back inside." then she giggled again. "That was nothing compared to when she finally snapped at a customer for making a comment that her last name, Honeydew, sounded like a stripper and tried to get her to act like one. She took him into one of the back room where some of the girls do other 'favors' for customers. Closed the door, locked it, and when the man came back out he had to hobble his way to the door. Never seen him back in the Lounge again."
Then she smiled a little more warmly. "So... I suppose for the type of place it is... the things that go on behind the scenes... there are some bennifits. If you don't owe Penguin money... you make a decent chunk of money each night. You're well taken care of, and there's pleanty of insurance to cover accidents. It isn't impossible to make friends there if you aren't gossipy or permiscuous. And... I suppose I did get a bit of a fairytale ending thanks to a late night shift." she said with a grin.

"I suppose you did," Julianne said, returning the grin. Emily Honeydew definitely sounded like someone worth meeting, should a chance ever arise. Probably wouldn't, but still.
"Sounds like I'd fit in rather well there, really," Julianne said, considering everything Rebecca said, "I don't normally gossip too much, but monogamy isn't usually my thing. Unless Mr. Savage is in town." She then looked up and laughed. "Well, I guess it's just not my thing now, isn't it?"

Rebecca chuckled awkwardly, then paused for a moment in thought. "Well..." she began. "Perhaps not now. But I'm sure you'll find someone that you'll come to like. And who knows what will happen between Vandal and I. Perhaps your visits when he comes to Gotham won't be completely non-existent." she said, then smiled slightly and looked to the side. "If what you've said is true... then there's really no reason for me to feel jealous or threatened by you. Aside from some talents you probably possess that I wouldn't even be able to begin to preform."

"It's true, but anybody can learn, if they're willing to put in the effort," Julianne said. She lowered her bead back down, to look Rebecca in the face again. "Even you could learn." Then, she realized the first part of what Rebecca said. "Wait, are you giving me permission to be with him when he's in town and you aren't?"

"Well..." Rebecca began. "You were with him before I was. And if he were to fool around with someone other than me... I would rather it be you. As you said... he only comes to Gotham once in a while, correct? And if he was going to be in a serious relationship with you, he would have already done so." then she grinned a little. "And as I said, there are some things you can do that I can't. Or... won't be able to for some time. With as happy as he's made me... I want him to be happy to. And... if he feels the need to see someone other than me, I'd rather it was you."
Then she blushed and looked away. "And.... maybe.... you could..." she began, then became to backwards to try and finish what she was about to say. "Nevermind. I don't think I could do any of it even if you did try to teach me."

Julianne was... speechless. After a moment, she finally managed, "I... Uh... Thank you." Then, she slowly began to get back to herself. "And after that, now I HAVE to at least try to teach you." A slightly mischievous grin spread onto her face. "Don't be embarrassed; everyone starts somewhere."

Rebecca smiled and looked away, bringing a hand up to cover half of her face. "I'm just not sure that I could... I mean I grew up with brothers but I tried to ignore them most of the time. At the Lounge I just didn't fit in with more experienced crowd. I'm not sure I can do any of that without laughing or feeling foolish."
