Lin blinked in surprise as she turned heel to follow the other way. She had not realized at all that rain was on the way.
"How can you tell?" she finally asked.
After all she wasn't sure if Aragost's magic as they had now deemed it also spreaded to knowing about the weather. Though for all she knew that could be the case, but if there was a trick to it.. she would like to know.

"The air," the mysterious man replied softly, heading directly for the stairs. "When it is going to rain, the air grows thicker ... it is something that you will also learn, in time, if you spend enough time at once in a single world ... traveling from place to place, you begin to expect the air to feel differently ... and so do not notice when it changes, or when it is different from normal ..."
The dark cowl turned in her direction. "You will learn ... someday ... how to tell what the weather will do ... Lin ..."

It would not be the first nor last time she would wonder how he did that or knew this. Though she gussed she was quite predictable after awhile. If Elros knew her well enough to know she would go visiting new people then Aragost would know that she wanted to know how to do something.
She nodded at this as followed closely.
"Oh... which reminds, I have a question about the Common Tongue."

The dark man nodded once more.
"Ask away," he invited. "You may ask me anything you wish."

In the darkness, Shiro grinned, his red eyes gleaming. He liked the sound of that. He liked to be able to ask questions - though admittedly, he didn't ask as many as Lin.

Lin thought about how she was going to word this, she didn't often ask about language like this, unless it was.. what does that mean, which was a staple question in her question diet.
"Did... people talk differently in Common Tongue a very long time ago?" she asked, "I mean... like use other words other than I or you... and maybe... the order of the words was a bit different?"

Aragost led the four of them outside, his cowl dipping forward in a nod as they went.
"Indeed they did," he murmured softly. "As any language, it developed as it came into contact with different races and different regions ... the original Common Tongue was far different from what is it today ... as I am sure you know from speaking with Sirs Boudwin and Leith."
He glanced down at Lin for her reaction.

That made sense, though she had to admit it was curious it was so much like English, though it was the only language familiar to her between the two worlds.
"Uhm... yes," she admitted looking up at him for a moment, "It was... a bit hard to understand. I knew, but I didn't quite know. You know?"

Aragost coughed slightly.
"Believe it or not," he murmured softly, "that ... is the only thing I do not know ... what it feels like not to know something ..."
He paused, thinking of how best to put it.
"I am unique from every other elf that ever lived," he decided to begin. "I was the first of our kind ... the first living being created for this world ... and the Valar decided that it would be dangerous for me not to know things ... so they made sure that I would know everything, as it came up ... not only then ... but for ever ... so ... the only thing I do not know ... is what it is not to know."
He made sure all of the children were following him closely, then glanced down at Lin again. "Does that make sense to you?"

It did, even if she could not imagine knowing everything. It sounded so odd to her in more ways than one, because there was always something she didn't know, no matter how obscure the piece of knowledge (or how useless in the long run) it happened to be.
"Hmm... yes, it does... I can't imagine never knowing everything, but that does make sense."
Though it made her wonder what he did in his spare time then if he didn't need to learn, maybe train.... or maybe not.

Aragost nodded, and for a while, they traveled in hasty silence. Every once in a while, he would glance over his shoulder to make sure that all four of the children were still close behind him, that he wasn't losing any of them, and that they weren't growing too tired.
Finally, when they reached the base of the mountain where they would be spending the afternoon, he turned to Lin once more.
"You ... had another question for me."
It was a statement, not a questions, as if he knew - which he did - of her talk with Sir Boudwin earlier that morning.

Lin giggled a bit, she couldn't help it, not only did he allow her to ask questions, but he always reminded her of those questions. She nodded her head for a bit in agreement.
"I was wondering when the dwarves and humans were created, because.. I was told the elves didn't need Common Tongue until they separated, and I mean.. it makes sense, but I thought it was also needed to talk to the other races."

Aragost raised one hidden eyebrow and looked down at Lin. "You seem so amused by your own question," he couldn't help but comment; but then he continued to answer it:
"The Common Tongue was not needed until after the appearance of the dwarfs and men. The elves, even after the rift, still knew and used the same tongue, until time changed it for both of them and they ended up with the two languages that they use today. The humans, not created until the Second Age, were discovered living in the southwest, and they had their own tongue. It was the first Queen of the Southland Elves, Queen Alyse, who decided that it would be necessary to find a language with which to communicate with the new race. She sent many scholars to their land to learn their ways, and to work with them to devise a tongue that would work for all of them.
"About five thousand years after the discovery of the race of Men, dwarfs began to appear, coming out of mines in the east ... they were such strange creatures ... accidents, as it were."
He started leading them up the mountain, up a bit of a path, where it was a little easier to walk.

"Not the question that amused me," Lin murmured, "You just always know..."
She smiled thoughtfully before really thinking about what she had been told. It made sense, she couldn't imagine someone making a new language, but it was convivent to be honest. So she was right... sort of.
"I see..... that makes sense..."

Aragost smiled within the shadows of his cowl and headed swiftly up the mountainside.
Adan had been hanging back and chatting with Shiro for a bit, but now he skipped forward a bit and walked next to Aragost.
"Hey Ara-kun," he grinned up at his teacher, "are we gonna go to the cave?"
