Shizuka followed as well. "Hey, I thought I had the answer to the formula myself, but that idiot wouldn't cooperate. If he did, then I might have found a way to get you all back to your own time."

"The answer is written on the paper," explained Mephistophiles with exaggerated patience. "Everyone who cares to look HAS the answer. It's getting to it that's the problem, and getting OUT of it that's the bigger one. As for your delightful question, Netsubo, we're in the late Cretaceous period, it would appear. Tail end of the Mesozoic, and about 65 million years ago."

"Dino-wha?" Shizuka was clueless. She had died before people were even looking for dinos.

Manta and Faust, less than a mile away, were doing just that. "Did you know," Faust said excitedly, "that due to evidence found in the bite marks on other fossils, T-Rex's teeth could penetrate bone?"
"N-no," Manta said.
"And did you also know that they were among the last dinosaurs, ever to exist? That means that something big is going to happen really soon... the Cretaceous extinction! Largest mass extinction since the Permian extinction!"

"It's really amazing..." Faust breathed, walking fearlessly towards the T-Rex. The monster seemed a bit confused by the boy in the school uniform and the tall, bony man. Neither of them offered sufficient meat... but he didn't know what they were! He snapped at the boy, who screamed loudly.

Shizuka could sense it. it was huge and loud, but 5 times as stupid as Mephisto (which she believed was impossible). "Okay, that doesn't feel like a komodo dragon..."

"It's NOT!" Mephistophiles said. "I think that we're in the American southwest! Sheesh... monster dinosaurs. Plus, something big is coming.... I can feel the air prickling..."

"One of the biggest theropods ever to live! And one of the last," Faust added, seeing them and pointing like a museum curator. "Which means that the dinosaurs are going extinct, very soon. Isn't that fascinating?"
"It's sniffing me!" Manta cried, as the beast inhaled near his chest and took another snap at him.
