Actually, it was a mistake with the quill he used to correct his spelling.

Somehow I think of Potions class, I don't know kinda sounds like some kind of thing they might need to make a potion.
I can just imagine Snape saying "To make this potion you will need 3 bouncing bulb leaves, 2 cabbages, and 4 peanuts."
