Maia smiled at Toby. "Me too," she said. "I'll ask Annie if she'd like to come. Who else do you think we should invite?"
She looked back towards Dari. "You'll bring Cody?"

"I'm sure she'd love to come," Toby said with a nod."We can invite who ever you want. Michael, maybe? Kevin would hate it, I think."
"Of course I will!" Dari smiled, "He'll have fun. I just hope it doesn't give him any ideas."

"Michael should come," Maia agreed. "Maybe Lundy. He probably would..." She grinned and shook her head. "He might come if we bribe him with a piece of cake, though."
She smirked at Dari. "You don't think he's already got ideas, then?"

"Uh-oh," Dari said, "Did he say something to you?" Dari worried. He'd have to turn Cody down, and then come out to him for what he really was... it'd be embarrassing, and stressful, and possibly painful. Besides, they hadn't been together all too long yet and-- gah!
Toby shook his head. "He didn't say anything to me."
"He did apparently tell his parents I was 'the one'..."

Maia shook her head. "No, I assumed. Taking you to meet parents in another town." It'd seemed like something people would do once they were sure they'd found the right person. She paused. "Did he? Toby said that meeting didn't go well."

"Well, he said so before they knew I was a man," Dari replied, "Or, well. pretty much a man. It didn't go well. They kicked us out. His father told me to stop seeing him, as if that would work somehow."
Toby shook his head. "It seemed like you had fun painting, though."
"Yes. Cody was really worked-up."

"What did you paint?" Maia asked. She took Toby's hand and swayed their hands. She reached for Dari's. "What do you guys want to do today?" she asked.

"We fixed up a bunch of his book," Dari said. He stepped forward and took Maia's hand with a smile. "It's not perfect, but it was fun. While pages dried we fooled around with a canvas downstairs. It's nonsense, but I think it helped. I hope it did."
"Well, I've been here all day," Toby said, "What about dinner on me?"

"I'm sure it did," Maia said, giving Dari's hand a squeeze. Ooh, an offer of dinner! She smiled. "Where?" she asked. "Somewhere new?"

"Sure. You two head inside and find some new place," Toby said, and then nodded toward the construction workers returning from their break. "I'll let these guys know we're heading out."

After dinner, the three went home and played a bit of the find-Nessie game; Maia had forgotten the actual title. Instead of finding nessie, though, they came across a pair of giant electric eels (much to the selkie's displeasure), a shark (but it wasn't paying them any attention), and a sunken submarine. A pop up had appeared warning them not to disturb it lest the torpedos went off.
"Nessie couldn't be inside, anyway." Maia mused, aloud.

Toby delighted in Maia's displeasure, and Dari just grinned.
"I'm sure there's an upgrade we can get that'll let us get in," Dari said. It was game logic. "That or a high-level vehicle." They seemed to be trying ti find Nessie more than they played the game, but that was to be expected. He was playing another save file on his own and he hadn't found the beast either.
"Are you sure you don't want to blow us all up?" Toby asked.
"Yes, positive."

"Probably," Maia agreed. "But nessie couldn't fit, it's huge. It's bound to be in some clearing. Or hidden by a boss." She looked back to the submarine.
"I've never been blown up before."

"What if it is a boss-- TOBY NO."
The screen exploded in vibrant colors. Toby had swum for the submarine and murdered them all, knowing they had only just passed a save point. He laughed and Dari just shook his head.
"You had to?"
"The lady said she's never done it before!" Toby said.
Dari just continued smiling and shaking his head as they respawned perhaps 100 feet from the sub.

Maia snickered. She'd thoroughly enjoyed being blown up. "Well, it was pretty," she offered, grinning at Dari. She kissed Toby's cheek.
"Nessie can't be a boss, we wouldn't have run into so many trying to find it."
