"Unfortunately?" Cody echoed, smiling. "Thank you, Toby. I think being part of your family would be wonderful." They were kind, and accepting; and it was clear how much they cared for each other. He gave Toby an awkward side hug briefly, releasing it. "Thank you."

"Well, we're a bit odd." Then he started laughing. "What was that, man?!" He laughed some more and looked to Cody. "If you want a hug just get a hug! I mean, you're welcome!"

Cody made a face, then grinned in embarrassment. A proper hug? Well, alright. He gave Toby a quick hug. "You and Maia should join us for movies. Knowing Dari they're going to be something indie I've never heard of."

Toby grinned and returned the hug, then looked toward the stairs. Dari probably wouldn't want them infringing on movie time, as polite as Cody was. Couples didn't snuggle when there were other couples around. Cody probably needed more than a hug.
"Nah, I think we've got a bunch of recordings to catch up on anyway." They didn't. "You two have fun, though."
Dari came up the stairs then with a small jar of glow-in-the-dark paint and a handful of teeny tiny brushes. He smiled to Toby. Toby smiled back.
"Alright, I'll leave you to it. Dadmode out." Toby rocked back and then rocked into a standing position with a short noise of exertion. he headed for the dining room.

"Recordings, huh?" Cody made a face. Work on your days off! "Alright, we'll see you in the morning." He smiled when Dari appeared. "You found them?"
Wait. Toby knew his nickname?! Cody looked accusingly towards Dari as Toby left.
Maia looked up from her book and untucked her legs from under her chair. "Hi love," she said.

Cody's face changed so quickly all Dari could manage was: "Yeah, I-- what did I do?"
Toby sat down across from Maia and smiled. When he spoke, his voice was low.
"I figured we'd leave the kids alone tonight. Apparently it didn't go well. They got kicked out."

"You told him what I call him!" Cody stood, a pillow in hand and bopped Dari with it
He grinned then and kissed Dari's cheek."Toby says I'm family now," he said.
Maia frowned slightly in concern. Kicked out? Why? "Alright. I found this website earlier that says you can talk to a robot, but he says he's an elf." She set her book down and took the chair next to Toby's. "It also professed undying love for me."

"I did," Dari admitted with a faux-ashamed nod, and then he laughed when hit with the pillow. He playfully shoved Cody. "Well you are! You're with me, you're family. Do you want to start with the book?" The lighting was better up here, not that he needed it personally.
"...you found a... wait, what?" Toby asked, "Is it one of those experimental chatting things?"

Cody smiled and kissed Dari's cheek. "Lets start with the book," he said. "Do you have a favorite galaxy to paint?"
"Yeah." Maia grinned at him. "It also told me I'm engaged to Captain Hook."

"I can't say I've painted many actual galaxies," Dari admitted, sitting down and spreading out some newspaper. "Fake ones, sure."
Peaches appeared then, poking his head around the corner and purring simply because he saw people.
Toby frowned. "Oh. Am I supposed to be insulted, like it thinks I'm this horrible person, or should I be worried that you're engaged to a fictional character?"

"Me either," Cody said, and smiled at Dari. "Not even fake ones." He noticed Peaches. "Hi, kitty," he greeted, beckoning the cat over with a hand.
"I think it was trying to say you're devilishly handsome. Like a pirate," Maia kissed his cheek.

"That's Peaches."
Peaches happily trotted over at the offered hand but, rather than waiting to be pet, flopped to his side under Cody's hand and began squinting. He kneaded the air with floppy paws.
Meanwhile Dari was opening the paint and stirring it with a clean wooden stick. He then turned through the book until he found a page neither of them was liable to mess up for a first try.
"have you seen peter Pan?" Toby asked, "That man is not attractive. Besides, he only has one hand, and he replaced the other with the most useless implement ever!"

Cody reached down and scooped Peaches up and onto his lap. He smiled and pet the cat. "He's very friendly. Is he yours?"
"I don't think so," Maia mused. "Wasn't that the book about the boy who kidnapped children?" She kissed Toby's cheek again. "I'm biased. I only think one person in the world is attractive enough to catch my attention."

Peaches, as per usual, simply allowed Cody to manhandle him. He only moved when he adjusted himself to better fit on Cody's lap. He half-sprawled in a somewhat uncatlike manner and continued to purr.
"He's Maia's. He was her Christmas present. He..." Dari looked over, "He literally cannot hurt flies. Unless maybe he accidentally laid on one. When the office cat comes over he's well outpaced." In many ways.
"...err. Kind of," Toby replied. He leaned over into the cheek kiss. "Captain Hook?"

Cody smiled again and continued to stroke the cat. "He's lovely." And definitely spoiled. He was too cuddly not to be. "You guys have an office cat?" he asked.
"Yes," Maia teased him. She stroked his cheek. "I love you."
