"Yeah," Cody said, giving Dari an appreciative smile. "Lets stop at the nearest fast-food place, love. We can get burgers or something."

Dari knew the way home anyway. He smiled and nodded and, while getting into the car, placed the book he'd been carrying into Cody's lap. He then punched Cody's mom's number into his phone and saved it under "Cody's Mom" and started up the car.
"Okay, sure." He smiled. In reality he wasn't too gung-ho about wasting precious ounces on fast food, but his lover clearly needed it. Food was family and love and healing. Cody needed the healing part, and that was best done with heavy, rich food and tons of calories.
"I'm so sorry about all of that, Love."

"I'm the one who should be sorry," Cody looked to Dari. "If I'd known I never would've brought you here. I never thought they'd be awful. Mom not so much. But she certainly didn't stick up for you, did she?" Cody sighed and studied Dari.
"I love you, Dari."

"No, please. I'm fine," Dari assured his lover. "Nobody was awful. They were just... opinionated." There were worse things to be called than 'floozy' and Cody's father had been very polite in telling him to break up with Cody and never see him again, as if that would somehow work. "Besides, I think your mom might be coming around."
He glanced then to Cody and smiled. "I love you too." And he had never seen his love so angry before!

"Opinionated idiots," Cody grumbled. "I guess. I think she might want to lecture us in private." He was watching Dari. "You're a lovely person," he said. "How do you do that? They were awful about you and you're nice about it. I felt like I was about to explode!"

"I think she wants to try to understand, or at least pretend to," Dari said. He didn't often disagree with Cody, but Cody wasn't usually so down. "How do I do what?" Ah. He shrugged. "It's just in my nature, I guess. I don't really lose my temper. Besides, there wasn't any real name-calling or anything. They were both very polite about wanting me to scuttle off and die under a rock." He snickered.
"Hey, I saw a Five Guys on the way out here. How does that sound?"

"That wasn't normal for them. Mom's usually talkative. She acted like we had the plague. And I hated it." He frowned. "I'd really prefer you didn't. Scuttle off. I'd do this." He gave an exaggerated sad face.
"That sounds good," he agreed.

Dari laughed and shook his head.
"Aw, love, don't do that, and don't worry, I won't. I love you. Your parents' disapproval isn't going to turn me away from the man I love." Already Cody's spirits seemed to be improving. That was good! "They clearly think highly of you, though, to think that I had corrupted you. To them, you are perfection and I'm the filth. Even still." So he and his parents might be just fine if Dari wasn't around when they got together, right?

Cody wrinkled his nose. "Bleh. If anything, I corrupted you! You, the agent I've convinced to break laws with me and skip work to stay home sick with me. I need some of those government only flu cure drugs, by the way. Still don't know how you escaped it." He shook his head and sighed.
"They'll see sense. I'm just as filthy. Want to watch movies tonight?"

Dari snickered. "It's all because of our top secret government-only vaccine program. Or magic. One or the other." Neither, really. It was just biology.
"Anyway, I chose to break laws and I chose to stay home with you, and I'd do it all again too." He nodded at the question posed.
"Sure. Your place or mine?" he asked as he pulled off the exit and into the parking lot of a Five Guys burger joint.

"I think it'd be better if they shared it," Cody said. "A lot of sick people would be healthier that way."
"Your place. Maybe we can paint something together."

"Nope. Government only. Neener neener." He was teasing, of course. His branch of the government was much less selfish, and he had no knowledge of actual top-secret medical programs. If he did, he'd be strongly against them himself.
"Sure. We could work on the book. Or we can just go crazy." He parked the car and got out, then went around to open Cody's door for him.

Cody kissed Dari's cheek. "I'd like that," he said. Going crazy with paint sounded fun. He got out of the car and took Dari's hand. "Hungry?"

"Slightly upset that your mother kicked us out before I got to finish too," Dari teased, "You're right, she is a good cook." He swung Cody's hand and leaned over to kiss his temple.
"Let's eat our feelings away, shall we?"

"Yeah, she is. Not as good as your brother, though." Cody smiled as he looked to their hands. He really appreciated Darib being so understanding. Of his feelings, of his awful parents, of everything.
He walked inside. "What would you like, love?"
