I am the Queen of Procrastination. And I claim that title without pride. I'm trying very hard to stop that. Like you said it' so much easier in college but with far more serious consequences.
No one in the manor with the exception of Tyler knows why or how. Everyone knows..apparently that she has been hurt but no one should know for a fact that Alex and Vincent are gone.

Earthquakes, cinders falling from the heavens, land exploding in terrestrial fire, and maybe a tornado.
How do those sound?
But really, what other weather can we expect? I like to partially explain the cloud cover as an excuse why this place is so detached from the outside world and why it seems that everywhere is only a stones throw away. Wherever the dark sky looms over one alone and lost among the trees, it is there that we are.
But thats just one man's opinion.
EDIT: Also, Nailah has vanished, she may not post for a little bit.

I always thought that the manor existed in its own time-space continuum and was where the manor need to be at any given time, like a pocket plane or domain.

Similar to mine, but more that it actually occupies a portion of reality, bending it in multidimensional ways that would kill us to understand fully, while also relocating to different places.
