Kibo bends over, placing his palms on his knees, so he was at eye level with the girls.

Kibo: Excellent. Alright, now here's your first pointer. To get the basic from, take the knife tip in between your index finger and thumb, and sort of flick it with your wrist. If you flick it just right, the tip will end up perfectly straight in your target. Once you get that down, throwing it perfectly straight will be much easier.

Kibo: That only comes after you get a feel for the knife you're throwing. Once you throw a knife enough, you'll get a feel for what makes it spin enough to stick in the wood. And by then you'll have enough understanding of the balance, forces, and weight behind your knife to throw it perfectly straight.
((EDIT: Oh yeah, 666th post!))

"Sorrysorry. I meant for it to go to Maida." "Me?" "Yes you, silly. You are the only Maida I know and every wish to know."
Maida gave a great harumph and turned her back away from Zia, arms folded.

Kibo gets Maida's attention without attracting Zia's, and silently tosses the knife into the deck behind her, catching Zia's pant leg and pinning it to the deck, and motioning towards Maida with a pushing motion.

Kibo: I was trying to tell her if she pushed on the wall over there, there was a bag of jellybeans behind it.
