catzeye21138 Tarashia catzeye21138 I've been playing the french horn for less than a week now and can play a full scale and play several songs just by knowing what the notes sound like... Is that normal? sweatdrop I'm afraid I'm learning too fast. =K I really don't want to go to the advanced band with my french horn in the middle of the year. That would totally suck as I play the flute in advanced band. -.- My band director would probably say something like "You were ment for the French Horn". Also because he wants more peopkle to play horn xD I say keep up the good work, because you're doing awesome! Edit: It's up to you wich instrument you play in advanced band... I think if you ask you might be able to stay in begginer band on your horn Yah I think I'll ask if I can stay in begining band with my french horn. I'd like to stick to the flute in advanced, worse case would be that he might try to get me to play both in advanced band and the horn in begining band. XP We don't have a french horn in advanced band but we have an F french horn in begining. gonk He wants me to play the french horn in begining band but practice advanced band songs too so that I can play with the advanced and the begining bands at the concertes! sweatdrop Wish me luck. XP I have to keep two instruments and scales totally seperate. -.- Shouldn't be too hard, been playing one instument for 3 years now. Just practice practice practice the flute. Trust me, I know from a bad experience, if you stop practicing flute, you lose your tambre. This is because your mello/horn chops distort your flute "chops". I'm working insanely hard right now to get my tambre back on flute because I didn't practice very hard for three months, and played mello hard for 3 months, and I've been playing flute for 6 years.

As for fingerings, they should be different enough that you don't get them mixed up. I wish you all the luck in your instrumental exploits =D

Oh yeah. I probably shouldn't double posted but I just remembered what I was gunna ask.
At school, I'm using an old beat up Connselation 8D. A couple people have told me this is a pretty good model, but naturally I'm cluless as to what 'Connstelation 8D' means to the somewhat more professional horn world.
The thing is quite dented and alot of polish is gone, but I was wondering if it's still a good horn.
Just curiosity fueling this...

Far over 10 keys. I think... xd I don't have it with me right now. But the fingerings on the right hand has three main keys and 3 others that are used kinda absent mindedly. I was just worrdied I would be thinking of the fingerings on a fh.

I was just worrdied I would be thinking of the fingerings on a fh. It doesn't really effect you. You just have it become second nature. I'm just naturally good at picking things up, so yeah. And I counted, on my flute there are 16 keys including the two trill keys, Eb key, low Db and low C keys, and the extra thumb key (for something such as the alternative fingering of a Bb). But don't worry too much. Mello/french horn fingerings come naturally with practice and lots of it.
