Mailon nodded slowly. "Ah. I see. Well, I am doing well ... healing up nicely. I suppose I'll be on my way in a month or so."
He didn't know what to say about her being distracted. Honestly, having never met her, he hadn't missed the company. Things for him were just ... normal, all things considered.

"Do you know where you're going to go from here?" Miyuki asked with interest.
Her mother had mentioned that it had been hard on him to regain his memories so, she wondered, where did a person go after a discovery like that?

Mailon was confused by Miyuki's obvious curiosity. Why would she care about him? They'd never met, and if she knew anything about him, she must know about what he had done to Kyrie, what kind of a man he'd been.
He shrugged. "I've thought about it," he admitted, "but I don't know."
Not that he was going to open up completely to her, either. He's just met her, after all.

Suki tilted her head, wondering why this man had been so closed off. Of course, she didn't know about Mailon's past, while Miyuki did.
However, like her mother Miyuki also understand that while this man had done terrible things in the past, this was his life now. Also, Miyuki tended to take it a step further and decided, he wouldn't have been reborn if he hadn't been redeemable.
"Fair enough, we'll be continuing to travel the continent, so who knows. Maybe we'll run into you again, hopefully under better circumstances."
Suki agreed and voiced it making a heart shape with her streamers. She was pleased with that idea, but there was a lot that pleased her. Miyuki found that Suki was very social, maybe too social.

Mailon nodded. "Yes ... perhaps so. Though ..." He frowned. "If you ... don't mind my asking ... why ... does it matter to you? We ... we're strangers, you and I. Even your parents and I, we've spoken a bit, but ... they seem to show the same strange desire to ... I don't know. Connect with me. Why?"
Surely she knew about his past ...

Miyuki seriously thought about this, because this was awfully normal for her family. Then again it wasn't like they had connections to people like the way neighbours or close friends did, not when you traveled a lot and thereby tended to leave close friends behind and not have neighbours.
"Force of habit," she finally replied, "My family has been traveling before I was even born. So everyone always starts out as a stranger, and that makes you learn to try and connect when you can."
Otherwise it would be quite lonely and probably boring to travel if you couldn't connect with people quickly.

Mailon nodded. He had never really done that, even in his new life helping people. He had helped them, brought them from one country to another, all the way across the continent in many cases, but he had never gotten close to any of them.
"I hadn't considered that before," he said softly, distracted by his thoughts.
He had always known he wouldn't stay in contact with those he helped, so he had never bothered to try get close to any of them. There didn't seem to be any point to it.

"To be fair, it also comes out of needing to know," Miyuki explained.
She noticed a lot of her connecting was because she was interested in culture and society. It was very hard for her to help other people understand if she didn't know it herself. She was also a very 'why' sort of person, she liked to know why things were the way they were.
"Yes, officially ada travels to map the continent, but that's really an excuse. My parents have always been traveling, because they like to see and know the different places. You can't really know a people without talking to them, even if sometimes they don't really want to talk to you, but eventually you find someone. It just can take a while sometimes."

Mailon nodded yet again. He had a limited amount of responses, especially when he just flat out didn't know what to say. He still wasn't entirely sure why she was sharing so much information with him.
"How long?" he asked, wondering why it seemed to important to talk to people.
Yes being alone wasn't exactly fun, but that wasn't his purpose in traveling.

"Sometimes, not long at all, but other times," Miyuki shrugged, "Not for a very long while. You might not find anyone in the first town you're in, you might not find anyone until you least expect it. On some occasions, sometimes not until you leave the country. Some places really don't like people who are different from them," Miyuki admitted, "It's kind of sad."
She always found it kind of sad, not for her, but for the people there, because you were missing out on so much. She had seen some very amazing things while traveling, and it was always good to share and receive in return.

Now that was something that Mailon understood very well from experience. Both in his current and past lives, had he not lived with the people who were the most intolerant of those who were different? Had he not himself been one of them? The cause of so many problems?
He didn't know what to respond, and it bothered him. Agitated, he rose from his seat on the edge of the bed and moved to stand by the window.
"I know," he said finally, drumming his fingertips lightly against the windowsill. "It truly is a tragedy. And I am ashamed to say that I myself was a part of that."

"But you're not anymore right?" MIyuki asked, "It means you can see the world for what it is. Full of amazing things, places and people."
It helped that he traveled, though Miyuki imagined he probably never had a chance to just spend time and see what the world had to offer before. To her though, it was a great thing to do, because it expanded your view of the world. What was possible, what wasn't possible and then some.

Mailon turned again to look at Miyuki, and his gaze was almost pitying.
"No," he murmured, "I cannot see that which you call amazing. There are things, and there are places, and there are people ... but wherever I go, I am treated as I once treated others. And I understand it, I don't hold it against people, as much as I wish things were different. But no, I do not get the chance to see what is amazing in this world."
He said it quietly, in a matter-of-fact sort of tone. It was clear that he had no hopes of things ever being different, and that he didn't even bother wasting the energy to wish it were.

Miyuki frowned, because that was sad for him. He may have done bad things but that was in a past life, and he may have been part of a problem, but he opened his eyes.
A part of her wanted to tell him to come with them and see for himself, but Kyrie would probably not like that.
"But there were people you helped, they wouldn't treat you like something awful," she told him, "And getting to know them, is getting to know others. Just because you understand why they would treat you like that doesn't make it right. It just means nothing ever changes, and that isn't just sad for you but for them. To be blind to other people is to not see the world as it is. The creators of this world, of everyone here, I don't think ever intended for this kind of separation, this... unequalness."

"We have but one creator," Mailon corrected her without thinking about it. "And I do not know what he would have intended for us. Or the Valar. But I do not even think that they care anymore."
He glared out the window. "If they cared at all about what was going on, they would appear from time to time and make things right. Even in my first life, no one I knew had ever seen one of the Valar. Now, a thousand years later, still no one has seen them. Whether they intended it or not, they could still step in to change things, if they wished."
And if they didn't change things, he concluded that they simply must not care.
