Another orb drifted past and Loffie chased after it, eager to feel the coolness against his fingers again. It was the one bright spot in the dingy world around him. He didn't like this place, he didn't like the other cores, and his only questions were why was he here, and how could he leave? How could he get away... Well, the Goddess had answered that, he had to become a Goddess. Ascension was escape, or so he deluded himself into believing.
Grabbing onto the fragment, he pulled it close to himself, savoring that quick flash of cold, and even the accompanying nonsensical thoughts in his brain. This time there was a single voice, weary-sounding as it spoke.
"It's nice to meet you, Efflo. Maybe next time we have a fight, let's not make out quite so much."
He couldn't make sense of it, but as he clutched the two orbs to his chest, Loffie knew he wanted more of the little glowing things, despite the weird words they brought.

Loffie captured a third fragment but this time there was nothing pleasant about the words that filtered through his head.
You," said a sneering voice, "Are not a horse."
What was a horse, he wondered vaguely, and why was the voice so adamant about it? But it didn't make sense and as there was already enough things in this world that made little sense, he disregarded the memory, looking around for another orb.

He found another hastily as it darted away. It was quick, but he was quicker. Another voice and it was shouting but the voice sounded familiar, almost like his own. He shook himself, almost wondering what these weird fragments meant but deciding that he didn't really want to know. He just wanted that cold feeling again, he was tired of being warm.

FINALLY. After many attempts, the shadow managed to snatch another fragment before it could escape her clutches. Clasping the little object with both hands, she made a strangling motion before angrily stuffing it in her pocket like the rest of them.
"b***h!" Yelped the fragment, through spectacular coincidence.

They weren't important but as he watched an orb pass him by, he couldn't help but think of the strange words. His distracted mind made his movements slower, clumsier. What did they mean, why was he suddenly hearing them? He had no recollection of them, he was sure he'd never felt them before in his life. Did the words belong to the orbs?
