Kai blinked in amazement, then nodded. "Wow, these are cool..." She said, blinking a bit.

"Wow, these are cool", was a more than acceptable replacement for yes. After all, they wouldnt be good for anything other their intended purpose otherwise. With that reassurance, Walter took to leading the young lady down the spiral stairs. The deeper one went the more she'd realize that while they were infact walking underground it truly didnt feel or smell that way. Here underground in the pitch back the air smelled fresh and one could even smell the pollen from freshly picked flowers.

The stairs were long, descended for easily a good one hundred feet before bottoming out and present Kai with the sight of Shadow Manor. The house was easily three stories tall and directly before her Ms. Kai would see very large windows and a set of double doors it seems were designed for a giant to pass through. But Walter was no giant, surely he was a above average hieght about 6ft but by no means a giant. This was not a simple house, it was a mansion of ebony. The house was entirely black from its windows to doors, to even the curtains.

Walter led the girl to the enormous doors, and immediately heft them open kicking up a cloud of dust on either side, the wooden entry way was easily six inches thick, and must have weighed a ton, and yet the humble old butler opened both doors as easily as one might walk through them.

Behind the doors was a luxurious room adorned with antiques in both furniture and art. Everything was pristinely kept and swept so as not to have even the smallest speck of dust upon them. Walter was very very good at his job. He led the lady through what appeared to be a vast living one with easily 20ft ceilings dwarfing anyone of normal stature. Immediately past the living room was the lunching room, a rather small quaint eating room, making a left he led her into the many corridors that lace and travel across the vast house in much the same manner as veins travel through out a human body. If one had never been in this house before it is very easy to get lost, and that was precisely why Walter was leading her. It would be far more complicated for him to say "Make a left, three rights, a semi circle, two lefts, a right"...and so forth. The halls were all made of a rich ebony and held countless antiques all designed to stand out with giving the appearance of being snotty, or gaudy.

And at long last, after what had to be ten to fifteen minutes of walk, Walter made a left at a door, and peeled it open revealing a bedroom! It was nothing too extravagant, it had a large king size bed several dressers and a mirror with the usual in ladies attire before it.

Here you are Ms. Kai. Please make yourself at home, you'll find a fresh set of sleeping clothes in the armoire in the far right side of the room.

He would not however tell it, that a simple enchantment allowed the armoire to read the body shape and size of the person opening it and place the garments they desired on top, and make the garments exactly their size. That would be for her to figure out.

Should you need it there is a lavatory down the hall, on the left. Its the last door on the left. And...

He leaned out of the doorway for a moment, and looked down the hall, before looking back with a gentle smile.

One of the servants will bring you a meal shortly.

He paused, making sure there were no outstanding difficulties she was having with the room itself. Or perhaps any magical allergies she was unaware of, suddenly springing up, and then he continued.

Will you be needing anything else, before I depart?

Kai shook he head, smiling. "No thanks. I'm not used to being treated like this. Thanks for letting me stay!" She said, an plopped down on the bed.

Think nothing of if.

Walter said verily.

A servant will be by in the morning when wake to deliver you breakfast. Goodnight Ms. Kai.

And with that, he gently closed the door letting it shut with a quiet click. Through the doorway light rhythmic footsteps could be heard carrying Walter down the hall, and away.

The room was generally silent, and very clean. It smelled no disinfectants or cleaners, but there wasnt a speck of dust on anything. Everything from the table cloths, to the clothes hanging in the closet was pristine and perfect in every regard. Walter was very good at his job. Kai might notice that something was entirely missing, there was absolutely no technology of any sort in this room. If she thought about she might recognize that were no signs of any sort of technology in any room of the house.

No sooner than that realization came, would a gentle knock echo from her door. It appears she had a guest!

"Hmm? Who is it?" She asked, looking towards the door.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 11, 2007 7:26 pm

There was no real answer, likely because the being standing on the other side of the door could not speak. It was a horrible side effect to not having vocal chords...or flesh...or blood.

When Kai answered the door very gently peeled open. It a very slow opening so that she could speak up, and or scream if she was currently indecent. A proper servant must never interrupt ones privacy. And these were proper servant.

As the door opened there stood a black silhouette of a male figure. It had no real face or eyes, or ears, simply two arms, a torso and hands. It was in effect a living shadow, pulled from its home and given a three dimensional form and used for simple tasks such as this one. If Kai knew who Maximos was the presence of this mannequin like figure coming through this doorway would have made far more sense. But, none of that really mattered now.

Two of these shadows walked through her door. One was used to hold open the actual door, while the other pushed a black car through. It was a dinner cart, as you might see in one of those expensive hotels. And atop it lie several plates with those lovely steel dome covers atop them. There were several delicious foods inside. From the simple steak with mash potatoes, to chicken, to fish, lobster, and even a very large full sized salad. It was a meal fit for a king! Or in this case a queen. It was clearly a very long cart, this why it needed two shadows to push it. The cart was delicately rolled to the foot of her bed. And each of the dome covers were removed and placed on the bottom layer of the cart beneath the sheet. Thus uncovered the lovely scent of various delicious foods filled the air. Forks, spoons, and knives as well as a few sauces and a salt and pepper shaker were laid out on the cart.

And finally, a pitcher of water and a class. As well as pitcher of an odd and yet very sweet smelling black juice.

Dinner was served. Both shadows stood on either side of the cart, facing Ms. Kai, and then simultaneously bowed before making their way back to the door and, unless they were instructed otherwise they would simply exit the room and close the door behind them. Ms. Kai could speak to them if she so desired, perhaps make requests, ask questions. She wasnt a prisoner after all, rather a guest. And a rather trusted one as no one was watching her and she was alone in someones luxurious house!

But, at the very least dinner was served.

Ruuvan

Phtunk, whoosh!

A small explosion of green could be seen in the distance underneath the island. Closer inspection would also show a small figure flying upwards in the explosion's stead.

Phtunk, whoosh!

Another green explosion came into existence, this time closer to the island. Looking at the figure now, one would definitely be able to tell it was human.

Phtunk, whoosh!

A third green explosion showed beneath the island, definitely close that time.
"Ally-oop!" Came a voice as if someone were hanging on the side of the island.
Not a second later and Ruuvan came flying up over the edge of the island before landing carefully on his feet on its surface. Three focused air stream arrows later after leaving sea level and he was now firmly back on familiar ground, dressed in his shining Elven armour and equipped with his bow and two Elven blades.

Where had Ruuvan disappeared off to after bringing Maximos back? Maybe he went to be alone to handle all those memories that came back to him, which would seem the most likely answer. Whatever his reasons for leaving, all that mattered was that he had come back to a familiar place. His task was to find Maximos and catch up, but given the random tidbits of information he had received on the goings on in Gaia, he had no idea what to expect.

Ruuvan's timing was absolutely impeccable! Walter had just exited the light house and begun watering a small the small line of bushes which just happened to rest on the edge of the island. That gave him more than enough time to lay the watering pot down, and fold and lay his apron and work gloves beside it.

Thanks the very steady weather the clothes would be safe.

It was rather easy to plot his course when one had eyes like Walters, and so he positioned himself about 6ft in front of where Ruuvan would land. He adjusted his monocle and smiled. And as Ruuvan landed, met with a friendly warm, tone that all that knew Walter had become accustomed to.

Good Evening Master Ruuvan. I trust you had an enjoyable trip?

Ruuvan

Was Ruuvan surprised that he ran into Walter? Well, no. He was the caretaker of the island and would most likely be about somewhere. Was Ruuvan surprised at the man's timing and positioning as he landed on the island? Hell yes! A man such as Walter was not as easy to detect as other people, so Ruu was slightly off guard to say the least, but he didn't show it.

"And a good evening to you too, Walter." Ruuvan returned the warm smile and nodded in response to the question, "It appears to have been optimal weather for a flight."
What happened next was definitely something out of character for Ruu, not to mention a strange thing for someone to do to a butler; maybe it was part of D rubbing off on him or perhaps he was just a happier person after the events that took place, but the Elf took steps towards Walter and held his arms open to envelope the man in a friendly embrace.
"How have you been, my friend?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 12, 2007 1:33 am

Indeed it is.

Walter said, as Ruuvan commented on the weather. Ahh the weather. A lovely thing indeed, and it was no sooner than his eyes had gazed up for a moment too look at the sky than he was being hugged.

The past few months Walter had been victim to several of these hugs from D. In all likelihood he would probably never really get used to them. He just sort of stood all stiff, his arms out at either side as Ruuvan embraced. He wouldnt say a word until it was all said and done at which point, he would have slightly smaller smile on his face and simply respond.

Yes well...

And then fix the wrinkles in his vest. Because if it was proper and it wasnt formal, it wasnt Walter.

Quite well Master Ruuvan, quite well. If I may be so forward as to ask, what brings the Master to Shadow Island on this warm day.

Ruuvan could not recall ever witnessing D giving Walter a hug, but he had a feeling it had happened a lot if the child had been staying on the island. As for why Ruuvan was on the island, well...
"A mixture of reasons really, Walter. I've heard talk of strange things going on in Gaia, nothing solid yet, so I thought the best place out of the way would be this island." Ruu smiled and took a quick look around, "I was also hoping to talk to Maximos; we never had a real chance to talk once he was back."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 12, 2007 2:01 am

I see.

Walter said nodding slowly. Good reasons all, and while he would have been more than happy to allow Ruuvan every answer to his questions that simply was not his place. And while Ruuvan did want to speak to the Master...

...Unfortunately, the Master is out getting supplies for the garden from Barton Town to the...

He paused for a moment, looking left and then right, then turned himself so as to be on a diagonal with Ruuvan and pointed back.

South...I believe.

He let out a small laugh, very small, and covered it with a white gloved hand.

If I didnt know better, I'd swear at times these places move. The Master is more than welcome here in the isle until Master Maximos returns.

He said, somewhat gesturing toward the Windmill and the isle as a whole behind him.

Kai blinked and smiled. So much food! She began to eat...

3 minutes later, the food was gone. How she could eat so much, no one knew. If the sevants were human, they would have sweat-dropped. "Thanks for the food! Send my thanks to the chef, will you?" She said before sitting on the bed and yawned, covering her mouth with a hand. "Umm, you can leave now...." She said, realizing that the shadows were still in her room. After they left, Kai fell asleep.

Well that just had to be how things had turned out, wouldn't it. Maximos was out getting supplies the first time Ruuvan had come back in a while, but at least he wasn't dead again.
"Maybe its the island moving, eh?" Ruu responded to Walter's laugh with one of his own and the little joke, coming to silence to hear the end of Walter's statement, "Your hospitality is always something I shall take, but maybe we could sit out in the evening weather a little more?"

Ruuvan smiled at Walter and took a deep breath, the scent of the flowers as well as the general aroma around the island flooding into his nostrils. A look of pure satisfaction and bliss crossed his face which would hint to someone that wherever he had been was not such a nice place, but whatever had happened he definitely appeared to be happier.
"Maybe we could have some tea outside? It'd do me a great pleasure if you would join me for it, unless you have other things to attend to, of course." Yet another smile was beamed in Walter's direction.

The sleep was as quiet as it was calm, as it was uneventful. Despite the magics which covered this house it was not prone to random monster attacks or to anything that would make a guests stay more uncomfortable than it already was.

There was of course the lack of light, during a sleep cycle when is that an issue?

In short, once Kai fell asleep she would be allowed to sleep for as long as she liked.

---

Quite possible...

Walter said, tapping his chin. Normally he could plot the islands course and Master Maximos' location as well as just about any person he'd mets location on the planet, if he concentrated. He could give a distance, their health, and if he shut his eyes and really tried he might be able to tell you what they were doing or feeling but...alas, Walter was getting old. And those were senses not frequently used, as they were gross impedances on ones privacy.

Of course Master Ruuvan, please enjoy the Garden and I'll set the tea the boil. I shall return shortly.

There was a thousand and one places to sit, although there were no definite benches there was however a few scattered rocks bulging from the ground and several trees casting a nice cool breeze. All of course gave a lovely view of the horizon. Though they were currently over an ocean.

Walter, however knelt down and gathered his apron, work gloves, and canister of water and made his way to the windmill where he would vanish into the blackness of the house. Walter could always make time for tea, though it was rare for any guest to ask him to join them in anything.

Shadow Island certainly was quite busy today.
