Calcifer is the fire demon who works with and for the wizard Howl. He is responsible for moving the castle, and a great deal of the magic. He lives to drop hints about spells, but only for those who listen. He was among the first to see potential in both Sophie and Charmaine. Howl also uses Calcifer as a test to see who is worthy of remaining in the castle.
