Thais slid down the tree and held her breath so she could listen. There were no signs of pursuit. She swallowed hard and began breathing again, still slightly abnormal. She drug her pack in front of her and started digging through it. She found the flask and opened it. She quickly remembered it was empty. She never refilled it. Thais dreaded looking through her pack some more trying to find food or crumbs she knew she had not. She rolled her head back on the tree and looked high above her head, seeing nothing. She was running out of hope. All hope. She didn't have the energy to go anywhere or move. She simply let her body slide down lower on the tree before frantically looking around as helplessness overwhelmed. She could feel the forest closing in, and everything else slip away. She couldn't sleep. Only lay and watch the blinding darkness. Her mind raced as her pretty lips fell open and little breathing sounds escaped. In the morning, maybe she would try to find her way out. Only problem was, when was the morning? It was so dark. So dark. There was no sunlight to give a hint of time of day. Maybe this was how she died. No. This isn't it.

Greg listened to the footsteps fade into a faintly muffled background noise. Whoever they belonged to probably didn't know the forest well, which was a dangerous thing. Greg tipped his head towards the feet, and smiled at his two companions.

"Walk with me; this is the way out anyway. Ever, you're welcome to the corpse if you want it; wolf-meat is much better than man-bird."

He snickered a bit at the joke, and began to walk. He listened carefully to Zai Hana's proposal; eyes were tricky, especially when they needed special parts. He offered a wolfish grin.

"You're damn skippy I'm interested. How soon can we put him on a slab? I've been itching to cut someone willing all day; I love a challenge. And even if it doesn't work, they'll never know!"

Greg smirked, solutions and causes whirling through his mind.

"So, how do you plan to return the favor?"

Zai walked with him, her hands in her pockets, stepping carefully with her platform boots. Her head was down a bit, but her eyes didn't leave him. "Depends, after this, gonna head over and re-examine his eyes and do another CAT scan on his brain." She paused, lifting her head and looking for a split moment in the direction of who they were walking towards. Zai said in a slightly lower voice, turning her head back towards Greg, "As for how I plan to return favor to ya, can get my hands on anythin' ya want.. or need. Medical supplies, weapons, poisons, bombs, drugs, computers, security systems, altered materials...anythin'. Recently, I've been studyin' methods of genetic alteration through the use of switching out the DNA in viruses and injecting the virus into humans... Stole a file on it from the asylum, Dr.Warwick's work so far is impressive, yeah... Bit more difficult than I presumed."

((In real life, depends on when she gets back from vacation ^^))

Gregory listened as they walked, running procedures in his mind. As she said, he'd need to examine the patient again, but he doubted it would be beyond his skill. He feared no disease; everything could die, but even death had a cure. He paused, his lip quirking upwards at her comment about being able to get just about anything. He offered her a wry smile.

"I'll get started on the list. Hmm... You must be talking about retroviral engineering. I've heard the theories on that, and it seems pretty solid; basically, why go to all the trouble of making nanobots when we have naturally occuring ones all around us? The thing is, once you alter the RNA pattern, how do you control it's evolution? You start off with an anti-cold virus, and you end up with a whole new strain of disease that can hunt other diseases, but ends up turning the body into a battlefield..."

He glanced off into the distance a bit dreamily, before snapping back to reality a moment later.

"Sorry. Yeah, any files on that DEFINITELY belong on the list. Also, anything you can find about sub-dermal implantation would be most welcome; I've got an interesting idea for armor..."

She smirked, although it was hidden under the mask... her eyes reflected it. "Sure. Ya would be operatin' on another doctor... Between the three of us, pretty sure he'll see again... Unless his blindness is due to brain damage. I'll show you his CAT scans later." She stepped on a stick, snapping it in half. "So, to my place first, then to re-examine the guy?" Zai Hana had known Greg so long, she trusted him to know where she was working now... Although, she wouldn't say out loud she was now working for the Usher clan.

Greg scoffed a bit at the mention of two other doctors with a scowl.

"A little bit of overkill, eh? I thought I would be more than enough; either this dude is missing three quarters of his brain matter, or he's somebody pretty important. Which is it?"

He knew where to go; he and Zai had hit it off some time ago, and she tended towards the sedentary style. She was easy enough to find if you knew where to look, but she did have a habit of vanishing into thin air at a moment's notice. It never ceased to amaze Gregory.

"Your place sounds just fine. Where is this guy anyway? And who is he? You've got me all curious now..."

Gregory cackled, and cracked his back; it was good to be back in business.

"Gerard Rosenthal, Dr.Avarice." Zai Hana answered simply. "As for the 'missing two thirds of his brain matter'.... I'll show you the CAT scans." Zai coughed, the look on her face saying everything about how terrible his brain damage had been. She didn't mention a lot of things on purpose... Zai felt uncomfortable just giving out his name, like how she would giving out the names of any of her clients. If it were not for the fact Greg was probably gonna help her help him, she would of just have said, 'too bad, ya don't get ta know.'

Greg blinked, then shrugged. He didn't recognize the name, but then again, he rarely did. It wasn't often he troubled himself with learning about people unless they were patients or returning customers.

"No clue who that is. Oh well; as long as I get what I came for, I'm not too worried about who it is. You keep mentioning those CAT scans; they must be something, eh? Sheesh, I can't wait to get a look at this poor sap; would you say he's a sight for sore eyes?"

Araeberous had a rather odd sense of humor. Few at it's mercy found it humorous, and the few who were spared it's scathing remarks realized that, while abrasive, Greg didn't mean offense. Anything rude he said was more than likely a test of the person, to learn more about them; either that, or he was just being a d**k. It was tricky to tell the difference sometimes.

She let out a sigh, which was about the closest to a laugh anyone would ever get out of her. Not that she did not find it funny, it just was not in her personality to find things funny... or to laugh. "No." They were approaching the edge of the forest, she'd lead him to the Usher mansion after this. "Got his brains practically put into blender, survived beyond all common sense, healed by magic practitioner, still unconscious, shocked with unknown amount electricity, woke up, blind. That's why I need another scan, ta see if his brain didn't fully heal and then was re-damaged in the occipital lobes from ECT. Maybe the electricity had nothin' to do with his blindness, but still need ta know if the problem rests in the eyes, or the brain." Stopping dead in her tracks, Zai almost glared at Greg with her white and black eyes, silent for nearly half a minute before speaking again. "... I don't want him under the knife unless I am sure of 'it'; unless I am completely positive whatever methods used will restore his sight." She stared at him strongly for a moment... It was very odd she seemed to care so much. Looking down, the same expression on her face, Zai turned her face straight ahead and kept on walking, hands still in her pockets. "You're the best at what ya do, I'm the best at what I do... If ya weren't, never would of told ya 'bout my case, or anythin' else." That was the closest to an apology anyone would ever get out of her, because she did say what she meant and meant what she said.

At length, Thais finally rose, no sleep came to her eyes. It smelled like rain. And fog, death, and filth. She could take no more. There was no food and try as her human eyes might, they could see no farther than about 3 inches before her eyes. It's time to leave. Thais rolled over onto knees and hands and attempted to stand. She was weak from lack of food and perhaps something else... Thais stumbled at first, under her frozen legs, and on the second try, she stood and looked around. It was difficult but she could see a part of the forest that looked lighter, as in a distant haze. That was where she began to walk toward. Most of her walking was a daze and the legs that carried her felt foreign for a while until they thawed out.

Thais couldn't remember when she had seen the first actual light, or felt the first rain drop, or reached the edge of the forest, but she was glad. She rested on the edge of the forest, leaning on a tree for support. From there she wandered around, the beginning rain sleeking her hair down to her head, soaking every possession on her being.

Greg was satisfied with a sigh; any reaction he got out of Zai was more than he expected, so satisfaction was in order. He listened carefully to the circumstances of the patient, and was quite amused by the story; it wasn't unusual for patients with brain damage to experience blindness, and even magic wasn't always perfect in it's healing. Zai's sudden halt and about-face surprised him just a bit, and he stopped, waiting for her to say something. At about the fifteen second mark, Gregory nearly started to snicker, but he held his composure; he'd never been able to take long looks seriously. Her comment sobered him, and he nodded slightly.

"Well, you know how I like to root around in there. So many interesting buttons to push! Heh, kidding. Don't worry; I won't jerk you around on this one. I never go off half-cocked... Wait, yes I do. Well, I won't this time. Maybe."

He laughed aloud and continued to walk out of the forest and towards the Usher place. After Zai's comment, there was a moment of silence between them before Greg leaned over and lightly slugged Zai on the shoulder with a crooked grin.

"Ahh, knock it off you big kidder, yer making me blush."

Kirai's figure, masked entirely by a long black hooded velvet cloak, carried the body of a dead man over her shoulder. As the clouds moved away from the moon, the blood still wet on her lips exposed itself, as did the gash on the man's neck where he struggled. Her headache at the very least was now gone. "I have always taken care of these monsters of society..." Kirai whispered to herself. Stopping dead her her tracks in an open clearing, she dropped his body to the ground. "Murderers, rapers, abusers... Those of the human race who have committed the most atrocious of acts, without second thoughts and without regrets." Taking out one of her cut-throat razors, Kirai slit her hand, letting the blood drop down onto him. "Is this justice? No, not from the likes of me. It's disgusting to have the blood of a man such as this running through my veins, however, the cruel and perverted always taste so much sweeter right before the moment of death." Her emotionless glare turned into an empty grin as she finished drawing the marks across his body. Stretching out one hand over him, Kirai rose from the ground on her feet and spoke out in just a slightly louder voice, "Arise."
The man's eyes opened. The same as most. A look of panic. A look of horror upon seeing their murderer once more. A desperate attempt to scream; Kirai kept their vocal cords frozen. They always tried to move and to get away; Kirai kept them tied to her like puppets on a string. Her eyes widening a bit, she pondered, "Perhaps I... have become the cruel and perverted one." The man stood on his feet, and started to walk around and hurt himself as Kirai wished him to. "Perversion is not just sexual, you pathetic mundane..." Kirai moved to walking along side of him, as his eyes darted at her with anger, hate, and horror. "Perversion is anything that has distorted from the natural course of things... This is of course, with the assumption that humans, werewolves, and vampires and generally good in their nature. In such a case, you are quite the case... Oh, however, I've seen perhaps thousands of your kind before." Stopping both of them, Kirai faced him for a split moment before again gaining her distance. "You might be perverted, but you surely are not special for the things you've done. Evil is common."

The wolf stood watching, scarlet eyes calm as the creature observed the pair. she was larger than a normal wolf, body stronger and figure sleek.. but it was the powerful death magic around her that gave her a faint black aura, clinging to her red and black fur like a well worn cloak. red eyes flicked up, captured Kirai's gaze.. and the she-wolf seemed to smile. " Your care taker taught you not to toy with your food."

Kirai turned around suddenly, and letting go control of the man for just one moment, he accidentally bit through his tongue and fell to the ground, gurgling on his own blood. Raising her pale black lace covered hand, she removed the hood; her long blonde hair fell forward and gently framed her face. Her look was one of confusion and shock at first, but then grew more serious. Her tone was hardened. "I... have only told a handful of people about my childhood. My caretaker taught me nothing of good and evil, and certainly nothing of food... For the longest time, you see, I believed myself to be human." Her hand clinched the fabric of her hood tighter, and then lowered down to her side reluctantly. Kirai's eyes were almost dagger like in nature. "Riley... how do you know of this? Perhaps Avarice mentioned it to you in conversation?" She was obviously uncomfortable with this topic, as subconsciously she took a step back.
