Donovan didn't need to inquire what that 'besides' was, family alone was a good enough reason not to go.
"Ah well.... there's plenty to see here, if I was one to take time out to actually see it."
He supposed that if Kara hadn't become pregnant she would have been dragging him around this world if she had the chance. Kara just never got around to it, and now.. well she was pregnant.

"If you had the time to take," Alyse added. "I mean, no offense, but ... it's not like you have all the time in the world, Donovan. You spend so much time here ... I don't know how old you were when you first started coming here, that was before I was born. But with all of the time that you spend here, you must be older than you should be."
And he was mortal ...

That was actually a good point and Donovan had to think about that. He was roughly three years Kara's senior, so he had been around 25 when he had met her (again). It had been nearly two years Gaia time, add to that...
"No clue probably 29 by now."
Though she had a point, he was going to have to retire within the next year or so, and send someone else to do this.
"I'll probably have to retire next year, well next year in Gaia anyhow, from this anyways."

Alyse nodded sadly. "And will we see you then?" she asked softly. "At all? Or will you leave the business entirely in Elrohir and Haradhel's hands?"
She was certain that Lin at least would continue to visit - after all, she was of a different race than Donovan, and she had talked for so long about traveling this world.

That was also a good question, it was easy since the Ranch was so use to being run the way it was to leave it in Elrohir and Haradhel's care.
"I don't know, maybe, a day here or there wouldn't hurt...."
At least he didn't think so, as long as Kara was with him.

Alyse smiled. "I'm sure everyone here would love that," she murmured. "You're so much a part of all of our lives ... really. I know it doesn't seem like it sometimes, what with how much you're actually not here ... but you ... and Lin and Miyu ... all of you. You're as much a part of this valley as we all are."
Ruque blinked up at the other two. "Is that what Miyu was talking about when she said she won't be back for a few years?" he asked.

Donovan realized Ruque had never experienced the time gaps before, and he wouldn't probably have a hard time at first understanding them.
"Yes, that is what she meant. We're only here a few years at a time."

"Oh ..." Ruque looked thoughtful. He would have to ask more about that. Even after several explanations, it still didn't make sense.
"Hey look!" he grinned suddenly, pointing ahead. "There's Mama!"
Sure enough, through the trees, Niyana could be seen standing on Ulani and Ulrich's front porch, looking around anxiously.
"She's probably looking for me," Ruque added quickly. "Come on, Donovan!" He giggled and ran forward, calling out to his mother happily.
Alyse smiled. "And I'll be heading home now," she agreed. "Until next time." And she vanished into the trees.

"Later," Donovan murmured before following Ruque.
He didn't know what to expected from seeing Niyana though he wasn't overly surprised to see her fair haired, not after seeing Aras back when Elnara and Lore got married.

Ruque was already in Niyana's arms and chattering away to her excitedly, pointing at Donovan as well as in the direction of the ranch.
Niyana smiled warmly, and as Donovan drew nearer she smiled at him. "Hello," she said, a little shyly. "You must be Donovan ... I am Niyana, Celebor's wife."

"It's good to finally meet you Niyana," Donovan replied.
It was really good to know the person who Celebor fell for. Not that he had any worries about Niyana.
"I just came by for a visit."

Niyana smiled at Donovan. "It's a pleasure to meet you, too," she said softly. "Celebor is just inside with the rest of the children. We were just waiting for Ruque to start dinner. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you joined us ... have you eaten yet?"
Ruque snuggled into his mother's arms and lay his head on her shoulder. "He was sleeping," he told her with a grin. "I bet not!"

Niyana smiled. "Then come on in," she murmured, turning and opening the door. "Celebor has been looking forward to seeing you again."
Ruque hopped out of Niyana's arms and zipped into the house, calling out for his father.
Kanis was sitting on the couch, leafing through a book, one finger twirling in her bright blue hair. She looked up as the door opened, and when she saw everyone standing there, she closed her book and simply stared.

He followed her in and couldn't help but look at the little girl sitting on the couch. If it weren't for the hair colour he would have thought she was someone else's kid, but on the other hand he wondered how the little girl ended up with blue hair.
Well, Seconds were sort of odd like that.
