Haradhel smiled softly and sat down next to Kara.

"And how are you feeling?" she asked. "In general ... I mean, that's the first elvish funeral you've seen, I think ... what did you think of it?"

Timaeus nodded and got out the loaf of bread, setting it on the counter, then cut several slices of it.

"Here," he said, handing a few to Lin. "We have butter if you'd like ... I'm going to make myself something a bit bigger, I haven't been eating properly these past weeks."

Kara thought about it, it was true she had never been to a funeral like that one.... she had only been to two other funerals in her life though, the one of her parents. Well, when everyone thought her father had died, and it had been vastly different.

"A bit sad," Kara replied after really thinking of it, "Familiar, at least the idea of last goodbyes. Yet different all the same time of course, it's hard to describe really."

Lin smiled widely, she was glad that Timaeus was saying that, "Some butter would be nice thank you."

Haradhel nodded. "But we have the chance to see our loved ones again," she murmured, "as Elrohir's father is living proof. Perhaps the girl will see her parents again ... but at least her death will not be forever."

She glanced towards the other children, who were playing with toys and with Saki. "But no matter what ... children their age should not be familiar with death," she added sadly. "Even if many of them did not know her in their town, they were companions for a while."

Timaeus smiled and brought a small container of butter from a cupboard below the counter.

"From Ulani," he told Lin as he set it in front her along with a knife. "From their cattle."

Then he headed back over towards the fireplace and began to stir a small pot that had something simmering inside it. "There is one thing that all of this has taught me," he said thoughtfully, checking the temperature of the cider. "Not only about myself ... but ... about everything." He shook his head slowly.

"No... they should not," Kara sighed, "But they do, and are more aware of life out there than other children their age. It should never happen, but it does," Kara looked back at the children, "But they are here... and well. For the most part."

She had no idea how this would effect them in the future, she would just have to hope not too badly.

Lin smiled at that, between the ranch and the growing farm that Ulani and Ulrich were having it was becoming very impressive. Not that it wasn't already impressive.

"Everything?" Lin repeated softly as she took the knife to get a bit of butter.

Haradhel nodded thoughtfully, watching the children. They seemed all right. They were playing happily, at any rate. But who knew what the night would hold? They were, many of them, at the age when they would be the most likely to have nightmares.

"All we can do is be here for them," she murmured softly, "and give them what help we can."

Timaeus nodded and put the lid back on the kettle.

"I was right not to trust the slaver," he said decisively, careful not to say 'human'. He knew Lin would not take it personally, but he still didn't want to sound as if he was accusing the entire human race of being untrustworthy. "No matter what I did, he wouldn't have let the girl live. If I'd let him alone, he would have taken her with her as a hostage, and probably done worse things to her than kill her."

He bowed his head respectfully. "At least it was not drawn out."

"At least they're not alone," Kara commented softly.

She sat back and sighed contently as she watched the children. It was so nice seeing them play, that was the important thing.

Lin's eyes soften at this, and she had agreed inside with Timaeus assetment on the situtation. While she was too young to be cynical (as she reminded herself often while she hung out with Kin, Raven and Quinton) there were times that cynicalism was justified.

"You had a lot of time to think," it was a statement more than a question.

Haradhel smiled at that comment. "There is nothing in this world," she murmured, "that is worse than being alone."

She spoke as one who knew, from a childhood of emotional loneliness to the point of abuse. Of course, there were few here who knew of that, if any ... besides of course Elrohir. Strangely, none of the children had ever asked about her parents, their grandparents, though they knew very clearly of the concept. After all, did they not have Serenity and Beren?

"But they also have Saki," she added, lowering her eyes momentarily. "And that is something that most people do not have."

She smiled warmly at Kara. "I cannot thank you enough for bringing her here."

Timaeus shrugged one shoulder. "Sleepless nights give anyone time to think," he dismissed the comment. "But I think I can finally rest ... perhaps."

He hoped so ... he wasn't going to be any good to anyone if he didn't get the rest he needed.

Kara smiled up at Haradhel, her need for pets had wane (not that she hadn't seriously thought of getting another cat or two).

"I'm lucky enough to find her," she replied softly, "I remember... the first time I settled down from travelling first time. It was before I began taking in children and it was so lonely. So I got Wish," she paused for a moment, "And then Cindy followed right after."

In fact a lot of her children had birthdays very close to each other, and that wasn't just because she had a lot of them.

"I'm glad," Lin whispered.

She fully meant it to, because during these days few days he wasn't the boy she could remember, not the boy she remember when she was a child nor the boy, or man actually who had talked to her right before he left.

Haradhel laughed. "And then the rest, shortly after that," she grinned. "I've heard how close together your children are in age. Not that anyone could tell by looking at them, they're all so different ... but look at Elnara, she has quite a number all very nearly the same age as well, even though they're not ... really."

She laughed again.

Timaeus smiled warmly at Lin, and after a moment he walked over to her and threw his arms around her, hugging her tightly.

"Thanks," he murmured quietly into her ear. "You were the one who helped me through it all. I just wish I could show you how grateful I really am to you."

Kara laughed and blushed at that, and here she was having another child, only this one was going to be a baby, and even more helpless than Jin ever was. Jin, though he was a baby (now a toddler) was just as hardly as the other children.

"It was a mad house for a while," Kara admitted sheepishly, "If it wasn't bed time issues it was snow in the living room, or bubbles that wouldn't go away..."

Since most of her first children (minus Triton) had worked magic.

"You already have," Lin assured him patting his back a bit as she hugged back.

It made her feel warm inside.

Haradhel giggled softly and put one hand gently on Kara's shoulder.

"Don't you ever be ashamed of it," she murmured with a warm smile. "A growing family is the greatest blessing that there is. Anyone who doesn't agree hasn't experienced it and should be pitied."

Timaeus gave Lin a final squeeze before he let her go again, though he was still smiling warmly.

"Impossible," he shook his head. "You saved my life ... saved me from a path of destruction and, in all likelihood, death. I had never felt that way before, and I really don't think I could have handled it on my own. Even my parents didn't know how to help me. They have known death for a long time, dealt it and come near it themselves ... but to me it was a thing entirely new, in a way."

He put one hand on her shoulder and squeezed it gently. "You saved my life," he told her again quietly. "I'll never forget that."

Kara grinned, she never regretted of course, she was just well aware how unusually large the whoel family was, and was aware how people viewed that.

"Agreed," Kara giggled a bit more, "And I look forward to this growth," she told Haradhel putting a hand on her stomach, "Until Elnara had children, Miyu was the only.. somewhat natural birth. Well... as natural as coming out of a vase. Fortunately I believe Jair and Naida are the only children who have to be explained... again the concept of natural children."

Lin blushed at that, she couldn't say no to helping, not after seeing Timaeus, "I wouldn't have known if Dad hadn't told me. I went to get me right after he got back, he's not so good with personal things as I have found out."

Haradhel laughed. "I'm sure Elnara would have talked to Jair about it," she grinned. "From what I hear, he's a curious little thing ... and of course with two natural baby siblings of his own now, he must have wondered where they came from. Since of course they don't have a vase like he would have."

Timaeus smiled and nodded, moving towards the fire once more.

"I'm well aware of that," he murmured. "Though even my own parents could do nothing for me for weeks. Who knows, maybe it was just because you hadn't been pestering me for weeks already ... or maybe it's just because you're you ... but you were able to help me when no one else could get through to me."

He took the cider from the fireplace and set it on a hotplate. "Like some?" he asked Lin, heading towards the cupboard for a mug.

"Or the fact that they're larger than him," Kara grinned, "I had forgotten until Naida and Jair came along exactly how small they are. Even if those babies weren't elven they would still be larger than a Surpirse Second."

She mused on this for a moment knowing how things were larger here, she had noticed it going up the steps, sitting on a chair, taking a bath.... and of course talking next to an elf.

"It's hard to believe in some ways now that the others are more or less full grown that they got around at that size. Well... Wish did get talked into giving rides a lot, and good amount of them were angels.... except Lin. She kept trying on her own two feet until someone finds her."

"Yes please."

Lin looked thoughtful at that, she still didn't think she had done anything special after all she didn't know what it was like. She had just drew on all the lectures she had ever been given by the ever pessimistic Vincent.

"Maybe... though the pestering is just my stubborn side," she grinned at him, "Like my Dad."

Haradhel giggled. "And who knows?" she winked. "Maybe they won't be the last. Between you and Elnara ... on the other hand, with both of you having little ones of your own to take care of, I would imagine you mightn't have the energy for more."

She smiled thoughtfully, trying to remember how many of the Second children were still little and how many of them were grown.

"But they are a fast growing race," she murmured softly, "as you so often remind us. It doesn't seem so fast to us ... since of course there are so many years between seeing them ..."

Timaeus chuckled at Lin as he pulled down a second mug for her to use.

"You are so much like your father and your mother both," he grinned at her as he poured the cider, "that it's hard to believe that you're adopted, and not their blood child at all. Seriously. You're more like your parents than I am mine."

He reached into a cup on a shelf above the counter and took down two sticks of cinnamon, putting one into each up, and brought the mugs over to the table, where he sat next to Lin and passed her one of the cups.
