I nodded, "I studied them. Well, I've just read books and seen pictures, never thought I'd see them face to face." I noticed the lady's hand and began to take little steps backwards until my back hit a brick wall. Not knowing what to do I looked at Asher waiting for his ideas.

I pushed Dusk in back of me with a sigh, of course it couldn't just be some regular old bag lady who happened to enjoy cats, it had to be a flesh hungry were wolf. I doubted a bite from it would really cause us to become were wolves, but it would hurt, even kill us. Were wolves haven't really been known to brush, too. I leaped onto the woman, who returned the favor by lunging for my ankle. She knocked me to the ground and bit in, though not so deep in that it would do terrible damage, yet. I took out the knife (yeah I did pick it back up after having had Dusk knock it out of my hand, I needed it!) that I had been hiding. The gleam shone in her eyes, and she cowered off in fear, pulling her shopping cart beside her.

"I might really love him. And if I don't take the risks now, I may forever wonder if I did, and he did." Mallory was looking at me like I had a second head, but there was nothing that I could do to make anyone understand.

"Asher!" I yelped as I ran to his side, looking down at his ankle. "Are you okay?" I wasn't sure if it was that I was beginning to care about him, since I tended get attached easily, or whether I would get lost if he wasn't with me. I tore off my other sleeve and wrapped it around his wound. I knew that he could heal fast but that didn't phase me until afterwards; I felt silly.

"Yeah, fine," I said as she wrapped my ankle. The pain surged up through my leg, causing instantaneous spasms in my knee. "Once the absolute piercing pain and throbbing goes away I'll be swell." I started to get up, leaning against the wall so it looked like I was actually able to stand. Of course there was some exaggeration going on, but I just loved to see her worry about me so tenderly. "This is why we don't go for romantic strolls in the moonlight on this side of the city, you should be taking notes." I concentrated on her eyes so that I may hear what she thought. I chuckled, having read her mind like a book. "A shirt would be enough to put pressure on the wound, but gosh darn-it I left mine in the tunnel."

I couldn't decide on whether or not to laugh at his sarcasm as I stood up. "Do you really think a shirt would be enough?" I looked at him in all seriousness. "Also stop reading me. It's bothersome." I looked back at where the old woman once was making sure she was far gone by now.

"The bag lady is gone, don't worry so much." It didn't take any reading to figure that out. "Yeah, the shirt will be enough." I chuckled a little, she had nothing on under that shirt, I remembered from before when she was hanging out of it. "No pants though, considering we've been crouched in this alley and all kinds of dangerous germs would surely infect and kill me. Unless you would like me better dead, I know your good friend Alexia would."

I remembered the frigid cold air and realized if I was to remove my shirt I would be much colder than I already was. I looked up at the cloudy starless sky. I figured the clouds were from the fires on my side of town. However, it didn't surprise me that there weren't any attacks on this side due to the sudden invasion. "Sucks for you then," I smirked. "Also, stop pretending it hurts more than it really does."I kept my words on the harsh side, trying to let him know that I won't let him walk all over me. I began to stroll away stopping when I exited the ally and looked back to see if Asher was following me.

I didn't move for a moment. There really was a terrible pain in my ankle that put me in a limp, but I couldn't let her off on her own. She wouldn't survive that, not a chance. I limped quickly up to her, stumbling a few times, but making it. That's when I stopped. The world around her stood still, waiting for my next move. Her eyes shined in the night, her hair blowing with the wind. I felt helpless and careless, she had control and I was her slave. Was it out of love that she tortured me, or only an intense lust? I dropped on my knees in pain and rubbed my ankle. The sky made a duet with my sorrow as it began to rain, droplets slowly falling on the scene, just asking me to keep moving. But time would have to wait. The moment trapped me, and I was weak.

His fallen figure caught my eye and slowly began to walk over to him, kneeling in front of him. I wanted to know whether he had been joking or if he really was in agony, though his expression said enough. My voice became concerned and worried, "Are you okay?" I moved my hand to the cloth that wrapped his wound and placed my palm on it gently. The throbbing in it was easily felt. "Is there anywhere we can go?"

The question that had forever haunted me. I began to have a flashback.
The other kids had parents who cared for them, while I had foster parents who cared for no one but themselves. We played together, though. But when I fell off that tree and was almost knocked into unconsciousness, I was only awake enough to hear the other kids called into dinner. I could feel their faces look down on me as they all asked each other where they could go, who could help. The truth was, there was no one. I remember crying, hugging my legs, being alone. It took them three hours to find me. I looked up into her eyes. "No." A single teardrop ran down my face.

Lexi did the first reasonable thing she had done in the last half hour. "fine." she agreed and leaned against the wall catching her breath. " got a knife?" she asked and held out her hand. It would make thing so much cleaner if she had one.

Lillith shook her head. "I... lost it in the tunnel..." she said and offered her wrist up anyways, just in case Alexia needed to feed again.

Alphonse could not see anything unusual about the bite, but made a note to keep an eye on it. He stopped for a moment o lean against the wall.

"I hope that works out for you. But as you have likely guessed, I cannot truly understand though I am trying to. You see, your words... you would trade everyone I love for a man you may love. But that should not really surprise me. You do not really know me or any of the others. I do hope they are alright... I've left so much undone." Mallory sighs and sits on the ground, arms around his knees. "Alexia I feared to tell she is like a mother to me, and I love her. Franky I knew for so little time and yet he was so kind and so concerned for me. He could have been my older brother. And Lance... how do I even describe? I have never felt so... cherished. Like I am the center of his world. And now I do not know where he is, whether he is alone... or hurt... or even alive..." the last Mallory said very softly, his head drooping.

Alphonse came closer to Mallory and dropped to a knee, putting a hand on his son's shoulder. "You worry too much. He put too much work into getting you out of that shell of yours to go off and die now." He tries for a jovial tone, forcing a smile for his son's benefit.

Mallory also smiles and puts his hand over his father's. "At least I can set one thing right now. I have always loved you, father. But you seemed to love me best when I resisted it... I have been too afraid that you will break my heart again. But now I am more afraid that if one of us is lost, you will never know that the only dream I ever had in life was to make you proud of me."

Alphonse looked stunned, then a bit sad and kissed the top of Mallory's head. "I am proud of you and I love you. You deserved that long before now. My only regret in life is that you waited so long. Come, come; let us head back before we start a bawl fest and bore the poor young lady." He rose to his feet and helped Mallory up.

The single drop of water that slid down Asher's cheek stood out from the rest of the raindrops. I softly placed my hand on his cheek and wiped it away. "Don't cry." My protective instincts had kicked in against my own will. I knew that he was the bad guy, but...there shouldn't be any but's. None at all. What the hell am I doing. I stayed still for a moment, just watching him. There was no explanation for why I am doing this. My head hung down, watching as the rain hit the puddles and the ripples it created. I sighed softly before looking back up at him. "I don't know why I'm helping you," I said honestly. "But I am." I stood back up, wrapping his arm around my shoulder for support. "This should help."

Alexia shook her head. "No thanks." She brushed her hair out of her face and slipped down to sit against the wall while she waited, she could feel that her bones were pretty much set, but still very delicate, and her lung was working apart from the pain that came with any internal injury. She looked down at her clothing and sighed. Her short once whit silk nighty was ripped, blood soaked, and cut to show her injury to the cold air. Most of her skin was scratched, or bruised and her hair was wild atop her head, many of the ringlets tips were stiff with her own dried blood. Al laughed loudly and looked up at Lill. "I look like death." She chuckled

"Why should you help me?" I looked down at the dirty pavement. "I'm the traitor that nearly killed your guardian Alexia, and the reason that the safe house is no longer in existence." I looked up at her and smiled wryly at her. "Either you are madly in love with me or absolutely out of your mind." I wondered how she would react to this, hoping she didn't have a weapon on her.

"We should go back." I said, and looked over at Mallory. He seemed deep in a thought, one that lacked sadness and depression for a change. "Alphonse, would you rather take the risk and show Alexia how you feel, or forever wish you had?" I didn't mean to toy with his emotions, but it was obvious that he loved her. "And Mallory, did you ever ask Lance to stay with you out of love? Do you now wish you had? He might still be with you if he knew how strongly you felt for him."
