Lin paused for a moment as she processed what Timaeus said. She smiled and giggled a bit looking up at Halmir. It looked like no matter what Halmir said he had someone who believed otherwise. Which was good of course.

"True, but to us, you're not."

Halmir chuckled warmly at Lin. "Well, thank you for that, anyways," he grinned. "I do appreciate it."

Timaeus walked over to Lin and measured himself against her, his hand against her shoulder to show how tall he was. He nodded then, seriously, as if he had come to a conclusion of some sort, and then he lowered his hand and looked up at Lin and asked her in Common Elvish, "What are you going to do when you grow up?"

Lin scratched her cheek thinking about it, to a person who didn't know her it might have looked like she was thinking about what she wanted to do when she grew up. However it was more like she was thinking how to respond back, her response time was no where near as fast as the time it took her to understand...

"I...." she murmrued after a while, "want to travel when I grow up."

Timaeus grinned. "Oh, that's neat!" he told her cheerfully. "But first you have to train right? To fight and everything? Mama says it's dangerous to go traveling if you can't fight, so I have to train up to be like Ada before I can go traveling anywhere."

Halmir grinned and leaned back on the couch, letting Lin and his son chat away together.

Lin nodded at this, that was pretty much what she was trying to do, and part of this was to learn languages. Which mean no better time like the present to start practicing.

"Yes, I am... trying,"
she paused and reworded that, "That is what I am doing right now, learning and training."
At least the best she was able.

Halmir smiled at Lin. "That's very good of you, Lin," he said warmly. "As long as you do yiour best, I'm sure you'll be able to do anything that you put your mind to. Don't let anyone stop you."

Timaeus looked up at his father. "Me, too?" he asked, his eyes eager.

Halmir laughed. "Of course, you too, he grinned. "Anyone can. Just you wait, Timaeus, you'll grow up to be a fine man, as long as you work hard and always remember to do what's right."

"Thanks," Lin smiled back.

She was going to have to remember that, seeing as she was coming up with a few road blocks being as small as she was. Lin was slowly realizing age was kind of strange with her. Looking back to see how Beren was doing, she hoped he was doing fine.

"You should say hello,"
Lin murmured, "If he stays, you will be seeing him."

Beren was in conversation with Arthael, but at Lin's interruption he smiled over at her and joined her over by Halmir and Timaeus.

"Good day, sir," he said warmly, nodding politely at Halmir. "I remember you from when I was a child ... you were one of the men that rescued me. I will be forever grateful for that."

Halmir laughed. "Well, that's not why we do it, but I'll accept it. Good to see one of the kids for once. We never hear from anyone ever again, usually."

That was true, Lin had never heard about any of the other children... well there was Shael, but Shael was the only one who stayed. She wondered though, as Haven aged if more people like Beren would seek the Ranch out. Now wouldn't that be an interesting sight.

"I think," Lin told Halmir, "That Beren came with the kids when you, and Arthael, and Elros, and Celeborn and Daddy, and Serenity had to go out."

She really couldn't forget that trip, because that was when the butterflies started talking... and that was when her mother looked utterly worried at the idea of a very large group of slavers.

Halmir smiled. "A long time ago, indeed," he chuckled, switching to Common Tongue. "That was one of the only hunts I ever went on ... the children were so scared of me ..."

Beren shook his head slowly. "Not of you, just of the situation," he corrected him. "Sure you looked scary to us but we were grateful, we knew you were one of the reasons we weren't in chains anymore."

Timaeus grinned proudly at Lin. "My Ada's a hero," he boasted to her.

Not to mention her father was probably in the same boat more or less being human and all. Lin wondered if her being a girl might make it easier if she ever went. The young Second had to rethink that, now why on earth would she want to go on one of those?

Because it was good experience her logic told her.

She would have to wait before rethinking that, after all hunts weren't nice things.

Even if those people did deserve it.

She pushed that thought out of her mind as she grinned back at Timaeus, she could see that.

"He is," Lin agreed, "Not many kids can say that."

Except for every kid living on the Ranch that is, everyone in their own way was a hero here.

Arwen grinned and flipped her long hair over her shoulder.

"Someday, I'm going to go with on the hunts," she told the others proudly. "Ada says that I may, even though Mama doesn't want me to. Aragost told Ada that I'm a good fighter, even better than Ahren, so Ada thought it would be okay."

She giggled. "Ahren just rides horses and goes hunting and stuff."

"Hunting is hard in a different way," Lin replied, "Animals are smarter, they run."

And can they run, which reminded her, she wanted to go learn more about that too. What if she needed to do that while traveling?

"But when you do go, tell me. I never know when I'm going to be back and you'll probably be on one while I'm gone."
PostPosted: Fri May 23, 2008 1:26 pm

Arwen giggled softly. "But if you're not here, how am I supposed to tell you?" she pointed out logically. "You can come here whenever you want but it's not like I can go to where you live and just tell you something and come back again!"

Halmir was still chuckling over Lin's insult of the slavers.

"Tell me when I visit, about it," Lin clarified.

After all, she couldn't be there when Arwen went but she could hear about it after the fact.

"I'll visit, I always do, even if between visits takes longer than others."
