Lessie....I'm a complete and die hard Rock fan. I'll listen to ANY type of Rock, from any era, or any language for that matter!! All of those principals for Rock, also go for Techno. Language barriers mean nothing to music!!!
As for character themes.....

My music is varied, I listen to a lot of different things. Rock, Classic Rock, Classical, Pop, (a little) Rap, Blues, Jazz, and a whole helluva lot of foreign music and soundtracks.
-listens to the Naruto soundtrack on a regular basis, the most played music on her iTunes-
The only thing I really don't like is Country/Bluegrass. It's like emo music without the screaming. And I'd rather have the screaming. XD

I agree Mael, Knights of Cydonia is quite the song.
One of my favorites to play on GH3 as well.
@Temari - Country is a no-no for me as well. They really do all sound the same to me. I will make ONE exception though, Devil Went Down to Georgia, I mean, who DOESN'T love that song? Emo music is a no-no for me as well, I really can't stand all the emoness...It just bugs me for some reason, and Screamo, blech.

I agree with Temari on Bluegrass but country does have some good songs. Look up "Online" by Brad Paisely. It's a song about a nerd who goes to myspace.com and is way cooler than he actually is. If you also look up the music video on youtube it's hilarious.

Brad Paisley is my hero. {Shut up! My dad and mom love country and I'm stuck listening to it until I get my own car!} He makes the best songs: "Alcohol", "Online", "Letter to me" and...crap, can't remember. And he plays some amazing guitar.
I'm a techno-nerd myself. I can listen to stuff without the synthetics, but it's not the same. I'm just obsessed with it. xD I also like W, which was a cutesy Hello Project duo with singers Kago Ai and Tsuji Nozomi. But Aibon was suspended and broke the two up. And it made Imo cry indefinitely.
I really like various Miyazaki movie soundtracks. I really, and I mean really love the "Spirited Away" soundtrack.
And I'm currently obsessed with Swedish singer Nanne Grönvall. She's just so freaking good!

Modest Mouse, The Strokes, Kaizers Orchestra (Norwegian Band), and Muse are probably my top favorites...
I like how deep Modest Mouse's music can be sometimes.

Heh, I actually like some older country. And I do mean older. As in Johnny Cash, Tennessee Williams Ford, Jimmy Dean, etc. sweatdrop
But I got a wide range, just about any genre I can find something I like. And then there are some bands that sort of exist outside standard genres I like.
Like Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.
