"Hey Toby!" Cody replied, smiling. He walked in. Oh? Was Dari still getting ready? "One button," he said. "You know, I've never done this before." He kissed Dari's cheek. "You look perfect."

"Really?" Dari asked while he buttoned up the second hole. He leaned into the cheek kiss and made his own kissy sound, lips stretching around the corner. "Well, I feel special. So I? I hope so. I got your mom flowers. They were sort of hard to find."
He gestured to the bouquet at the table, neatly wrapped. Toby just stood by, watching and smiling.
"Have fun you two," he said.
Dari grabbed his bouquet and released a sigh of air. Okay. He could do this.

Cody smiled. "Yeah. You are special." He looked to the flowers and gave Dari another smile. "She'll love them."
He took Dari's hand. "We'll come by later," he promised Toby.

"Sure, see you then," Toby said with a nod, a smile, and a wave. "You're invited to dinner or dessert or... whenever. Actually, here." Toby disappeared into the kitchen and came out with a newly-made silver key. "Here. I figure we're not getting rid of you any time soon."
Dari picked up the flowers and smiled. A house key! He recognized the specific patterns of peaks and valleys.

Cody's eyes widened. Dinner, dessert--what. What? He stared at the key as it was offered to him. Well! He hadn't expected that. Toby had officially accepted him as his brother's boyfriend, then? "Thank you," he said. It meant a lot.

Toby nodded and smiled.
"Come on," Dari said, taking Cody's hand. He kissed his curls and started out the door.

Cody gave Toby one last wave as he followed Dari out the door. He smiled happily. "Ready for a two hour drive?" he asked. He hopped into the drivers seat.

Toby held the door as they left, waved to Cody one more time, and closed the door and headed back inside.
"I gave Cody a house key," he said to Maia. He acted casual, but in truth it was an enormous show of trust.
"Oh, two hours?" Dari asked, slipping in. "Sure." Car rides were relaxing.

Maia paused in what she was doing; Peaches could wait. She wasn't sure he'd play with the ball once she found it, anyway. She wrapped her arms around Toby. "I'm glad. Now, we just have to make him come over more often." Cody still tended to only come over when he intended to kidnap Dari. Maia thought that was a shame.
"Yeah. Pretty straight drive. Mom's expecting us around three."

Dari laughed. "Great." He looked down at himself, all button-up shirt and jeans. Should he have worn slacks? His work uniform would be a little too much.

"They'll love you as much as I do," Cody promised. Or so he hoped. He didn't see how anyone could fail to love Dari. He was lovely. Perfect. "So! Want to play a car game?"

Dari laughed again. Car games!
"Sure, it'll help the time go faster." Plus it would probably be hilarious.
Oh, and it was. There was plenty of laughter to be had and the ice was broken, and so, about an hour and fifteen minutes into the trip, when a love song came on the radio via the iPod, a chuckling Dari began to serenade his driver, gesturing to him and through the car, careful only to not obstruct Cody's view of the road. He was just being silly. What he didn't know was that his voice was open and gorgeous and strangely able to belt, considering his lack of training. These vocal cords had limits. They were natural. They were automatic. They were so, so much easier to control!

It was hard for Cody to keep his focus on the road when part of him wanted to pull over and listen to Dari's voice. He could sing! He could paint, he was a genius and he could sing! How many talents did Dari have?
When the song ended, he smiled at Dari. "You sing better than the original singer," he marveled. "You didn't tell me you could sing."
