Yup. I made sure a 6:1 ratio against Ritt be a piece of cake. Too bad it costs a smeggin' buttload to keep that from becoming commonplace...

stellarmagic They weren't allowed to have a variety of paint schemes as part of the New Republic military. All they had was a squadron crest, and a spaceframe painted green because it wasn't really New Republic property. The Rogues are very conservative in their flying style. Reversals, rolls, and loops aren't very common maneuvers (Rolls especially, the roll is the most useless acrobatic maneuver devised, so long as the direction your nose is pointing doesn't change my aim doesn't need to change, nor a missiles flight path). The bread and butter of fighter combat is the break turn, coupled with slight variations (Hi-Lo, Yo-Yo, and thatch weave to name a few). Acrobatic skill doesn't matter, because you're not doing a precise display to a crowd. Maneuvers need an instability, a random factor that keeps the enemy from predicting your moves. Aerobatics demands the removal of those factors. Gunnery doesn't matter, because you're attacking a maneuvering target. If you fire at range, he's going to dodge. You must close and eliminate deflection... so the best attacks are at the enemy's 12 and 6 o'clock positions within one kilometer or less (You can thank the targeting computer for keeping you from having to get into the 100 meter or less range). What does matter is situational awareness (The one you don't notice lining up a shot will kill you) and aggressiveness (The one sure fire way to die is to turn away from an attacker.) That's where the rogues excel. So are you completely forgetting when they left the NR or what? When they participated in the Bacta War, they all painted their fighters in unique patterns. Wedge did a Checkerboard pattern to represent his parent's filling station, Tycho did a Red color scheme to symbolize the Aldeaan home guard from his native area, Ooryl's paint scheme was visible only on the infrared spectrum, and Gavin painted his like a Krayt Dragon. That only a small sampling of course, but you get the gist. I hope.

Nelowulf Or any other Jedi Ace? Or has Stellar forgotten just how "aerobatic" the fights were in the Clone Wars miniseries? And Actually, I never really read much into the Flying Circus. I just wanted a red craft. I had no clue about Udet until you mentioned it. WWI airplanes don't really interest me much. No real speed to it to pull off the maneuvers that you can in star wars. xp There's aerobatic and there's the real world. Aerobatic flying is adherence to a strict regime of maneuvers that are performed in a precise manner. Combat flying is doing everything you can to point your guns at the enemy, precision and the book be damned. A good ace flies with a distinct instability, and a good fighter plane is by its very nature somewhat unstable. Aerobatic training is designed to force the pilot to remove these tendancies because they put the other members of the formation at a risk of a collision.

*sigh* Stellar's just got no imagination. If you watch the series closely, you realize Anakin's no more than a stunt jockey, but in star wars, the rules of physics which you're being so adamant about don't work. The Jedi get away with maneuvers no "conservative" pilot could ever pull off, and that's where their advantage lie. Only an idiot would pilot a craft with little shielding, a pair of blasters, and engines five times more powerful than necessary unless they were capable of handling the stress.
Not to mention, who gives a rat's a** if we're trying to abide by the rules of aeronautics? Its in space, after all. The sheer fact we turn on a dime is enough to destroy all the factual fighting ability you coudl muster for an arguement...
@ cale: Imagine starting every battle off with a volley of cluster missles. It wouldn't be cheap atall.

Oh heck no. Especially not on a Jedi's budget. Fortunately, the Ashla's got plenty of cannon to go around.

what, like Gattling blasters? Yeah its possible. Only problem is that they draw more energy from the Starfighter's generator, more than simply launching a missle, but less than a laser. That and they have a finite ammo supply.

It just seems putting those hard points to waste by not putting anything on them is just silly. At least, until you come up against an opponent where the extra energy would be useful for the engines and main weapons.
It is a jedi in a standard craft after all. Most jedi fly wickedly fast and flimsy craft simply because they have the force to aid in dodging lasers. With the extra defense, I could put a couple more gadgets on to help displace the odds...

Good thing about blasters: They can throw alot of light down range in a hurry. Bad thing: They're weaker than lasers.

Cale Darksun Weapon booster or speed booster? Like a Scram-jet afterburner for outer space... It would be pretty nifty to simply blow right through the squadrons at triple their full speed, if only for a short time...
