Kurai Mori Theallpowerfull Canada is in North America... sweatdrop I'm alright with you calling yourself an American if you're using it in the proper context but people are using the term as if America were their country. o_o; Then what would you suggest we call ourselves? People use America and American as terms for the country because calling ourselves USans or Statans would be weird. I call you all U.S.ians. 3nodding mrgreen I'm pretty sure that Central America is simply North America (since there are only two continents over here) but segregated by the U.S. You guys call them Central America and call us Canada, just so you can call yourselves America. And yes, we reference ourselves as part of North America... But I'm still Canadian

Yeah I like the twista style too. And they have white hair! I've always wanted white hair again ever since I had it . . . a long time ago. But alas they have very few white (not grey) hairstyles. Very tempted indeed. But I'm kind of partial of this hair.

Xero1200 Yes, around that region. North America ends right after Mexico. But, my friend, Central America is not a continent on its own. It mus be a part of either North or South America, and, according to wikipedia it is part of North Amercia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_AmericaIt states that Central America is, "...a narrow isthmus of southern North America extending from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Mexico southeastward to the Isthmus of Panama where it connects to the Colombian Pacific Lowlands in northwestern South America." I win. mrgreen

Masquanade Kurai Mori Xero1200 Considering if you were to look at a map, both Canada and Mexico would be considered to be in North America. sweatdrop Isn't that considered middle america? o_O; Although I don't know how you tell where the cut off is... x_X I thought technically a ll of North America and Centeral America were indeed- North America. South America is that giant clump down there. But do Canadians really go around calling themselves Americans? Or in Canada when you walk up to someone and say I'm am American- are they going to think you're from the US? sweatdrop i started saying something along the lines of "That would be like saying all of Europe and Asia is the same thing", but i realize how stupid that sounds. Maybe its because i've got family in and from central america that i make such a big difference. I consider the actual connected land AND the islands to be central america. But like i said, i have reason to differintiate

Bah, it says a lot more than that. xd Wiki Central America is a central region of the Americas. Variably defined, the geographic region constitutes the southern portion of the North American continent. There was a nation of Central America in the early 19th century, consisting of the present day nations of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica (and a portion of the modern Mexican state of Chiapas). This was sometimes known as the United Provinces of Central America or the United States of Central America. Central America is composed of six independent nations: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. On 1 July 1823, the congress of Central America declared absolute independence from Spain, Mexico, and any other foreign nation, and a Republican system of government was established. In 1823 the nation of Central America was formed. It was intended to be a federal republic modeled after the United States of America, and it was known officially as "The United Provinces of Central America" and is known sometimes today in English as "The United States of Central America." See? I bet Central Americans don't consider themselves part of North America. The only reason anyone else does is because it's the big nations who are in charge of dividing everything up and they like to grab as much land as they can to claim. It would be really interesting to see what maps made by the central american government said. ninja
And that proves you are as incorrect to call us U.S.ians as you consider us in calling ourselves American's because we are not the only US, theallpowerful. razz

Also, you must have read further down in the article, and this picture explains alot. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dc/Tectonic_plates.pngAs you can see, most continents are determined by the tectontic plate they sit on. Central America is defined by the Carribean Plate. I admit Central America isnt it's own continent, but it IS it's own land mass. There also must be a reason Central america isnt lumped in ALL the time with either north or south america

Actually, speaking of North/South/Central America, don't people usually say "America" when referring to the country, and North America when referring to the continent? So that kinda makes the argument null.

Interesting discussion we're talking about here. Didn't I say a few posts back that central America was indeed part of North America? Obviously my knowledge is in question.
And Kurai i agree with you- Americans call them selves Americans and if they want more broader term it's North Americans, Central Americans, and South Americans.
