How sweet! Dari smiled and, at the same time, felt a little sad. Some day, the flowers would die. He swallowed and nodded and forced his smile to grow.
"Sure. That sounds like a great idea." Very cute. Very Cody. "Do you want to plant them now?"

"And look," Cody pointed at the box; the flowers were annuals. He'd planned for long term, it seemed, or maybe, a bit like Dari, he'd be sad when they died. "Yeah, if you'd like to." He moved to kiss Dari's cheek. "They're summer flowers."

"Oh, good planning," Dari said, taking up the box and looking them over. Annual. Nice. "Is planting in a box anything like planting outside?" He helped Toby every now and then but had never studied urban planting.

"Yeah," Cody said, blinking at Dari. "I'm going to attach it to the window once we're done, so they'll get plenty of sunlight."

Dari nodded. "Okay." He was still smiling as he opened the box and took out the packet of seeds. He plopped down at the table as he read the directions for how deep they were meant to be planted. It was nice that he would never forget this. This was one of those experiences he'd want to hold on to.

Cody took a handful of seeds. He smiled to Dari. "Flowers always remind me of beginnings, I guess that's why I love Spring so much." It meant something, to share this experience with his boyfriend. He began to make little holes on one side of the pot.
"What do you think they'll be?"

"I'm not sure," Dari said, furrowing his brow as he looked over the packet. There were no pictures, and only a list of "might contain"s like an ingredients list. He started putting a few seeds in each hole Cody made.
"Beginnings?" he asked then, half-smiling and looked to Cody out of the corner of his eyes, "Is this one of ours?"

"Hm, our beginning happened ages ago," Cody said, and then smiled at Dari. He held up a tiny seed. "You know, people say if you have enough faith to fill a seed, you can move mountains. But I think our love could fill oceans." Just in the five months they'd been together.
He paused and looked to Dari again. "I guess this is the day we become plant-parents."

Dari laughed and wrapped an arm around Cody, pulling him close and stealing a strong kiss. Plant-parents. Hah!
"Well I'm delighted to share the experience with you," he said. "Hopefully they'll grow." He looked down into the little holes. Yes, they would. The fourth dimension was a funny thing. He smiled and dropped in a couple more.

Cody returned the kiss, giving a playful nibble at Dari's bottom lip.
"They will," Cody started filling a separate pot with soil, then planted the seeds he had in his hand. He carefully watered it, then put it on the coffee table.

"What about those?" Dari asked, making some more holes in the window box while he nodded toward the separate pot. They wouldn't get any sunlight on the coffee table unless Cody had a UV lamp handy.

"Those are for you to take home," Cody said, and smiled at him. "Someone has to look after you when I'm not able to." And it might as well be plant-kids, right? "I thought you'd like to plant them at your house, once they grow some."

"Oh! Alright." He could have his own garden in the back yard, maybe. Hopefully Peaches wouldn't eat the sprouts. Cats did that, and Dari was pretty sure Seamus was a bad influence. "Thank you."
He looked to their window box and gestured widely. "What do you think?"

"I think it's perfect," Cody kissed Dari's cheek, and then looked to admire their work. "They'll be beautiful when they grow." Beautiful, just like Dari was.

"It'll be exciting to see what they grow into," Dari added, tucking dirt over their baby seeds. He turned and gave Cody a kiss when he was finished, then wiped dirty fingers on his pants and wrapped his arms around him.
"Thank you for not being an idiot," Dari said against Cody's shoulder.
