Bah. It irritates me to no end how on shows like Deadliest Warrior fail to take into consideration things like tactics, skills, etc etc. All they ever do is literally break down to "they're only as good as their weapon"
They also seem to seriously fail to recognize some scary crap that used to go on during those times, or even really match up enemies properly.
For example: Roman soldier vs Samurai. Who would win? Let's see..reality..
Roman soldiers were not trained from birth to be warriors. Romans fought in mass, and with combination would slaughter. However, by themselves they generally got slaughtered. This was taken advantage of by the guerrilla tactics used by early German barbarians who would break them down into small groups, and let loose hell.
A Samurai's one purpose in existence was to train, serve and ultimately die. A Roman would stand no chance - ever. Somehow shows like Deadliest Warrior seem to manage to get like "they almost won~" How the heck? Because they only test the weapons, but not tactics or skills. -.-
I do like, however, seeing the weapons in action. B-)

Oh, and aside from the fact that Rome had barely even unlocked the tech of steel, where as Samurai were in the future and had been using steel for generations.
I also really hate how generally the people that have to 'represent' each side are uneven, and usually extremely disrespectful and cocky. This fact has a tendency to ruin the show for me, personally.

I like weapons. Save for Firearms. I think that was just a fling for me. But. Samurai did more than just train to die. They existed for the sake of honor to serve their Daimyo and ultimately their Shogun.
Both factions are born to serve in ranks. Such as the case in the Last Samurai. Watanabe-senpai's character, I think, was Daimyo to that clan, and had control over his myoden until westerners convinced the Shogunate to shed those old ways. You see how Watanabe's character appeals to the Shogun directly, because that is exclusively who he serves. Those that served their Daimyo were of the Samurai class because it was their job to protect the Daimyo and his lands.
Romans, I didn't study as thoroughly. That's Lobster's cup of tea.

See, I've never really bothered with Asian culture to be quite frank. I was never really a fan of the weapons, and as far as culture goes I prefer Chinese over Japanese. I will admit that in a many ways Japanese weapons are insanely superior, but I will always prefer European and Mediterranean weapons. I think it's more so that I've got a connection to it.
However, as far as I'm concerned, the most proficient, brutal, and superior weapons are from the middle east, and over the years of interest I've grown quite fond of them. Middle Eastern culture is also very complicated in my personal opinion.

Also, I've come to really love firearms, but I still prefer ancient weapons.

I personally like the weapons of the scottish era. The claymore being my most fun toy, plusim of scottish bloodline that maybe related to wallace so im told, I just can't confirm. So the claymore fits in my hands like a sniper rifle to a sniper :O course I love spears, broad swords, short swords, daggers, sword/shield, twin swords, bow and arrow, axes, kenpo, mauy thai, katanas. Just as a hobby, and I can't stand guns. (I am good with a sniper rifle however.)

Not shunned! I just had to go grocery shopping because I'm a good little house wife creature.
I like learning about weaponry from other cultures. I only know more about those of the Asian culture because I studied and practiced with them myself. That is why I say I belong in the kitchen.
Thats where the knives are.
I like to play with pointy objects...

I warn you. I am a nerd. I research way too much. I have a bad habit of. Saying, "Oh I'll just glance at this..." Four hours later, I'm reading about black holes, or something that happened during the Renaissance. It's terrible. I once. Went to look at the name of a Power Ranger. And ended up reading about every series. I wasn't familiar with Hawkeye from the Avengers, and the next day I knew his whole life story, who he married, how many times he died, who took over, who stepped down.
.__. It's such a terrible habit.
Ssssooooo be prepared for an indepth discussion at some point about Middle Eastern weapons...

That'd be much appreciated. I'm an extremely slow learner, and have a better chance of remembering somethin' through conversation.
