It's a Jiroubu move usually used for defence, raises wall of earth to block an attack, in this instance it's being used to launch you in the air since your standing on the wall area.

Honestly if it was up to me, I'd be in one big room with the other contestants and I'd slaughter them all. Unfortunately thats Noir's decision. I can only hope for something like that in the next part of the exam.
