Daemon the Sword

PostPosted: Fri Aug 24, 2007 7:33 pm

You're not use to travelling with other people, at least you realized.

Daemon pointed out, after all they never had anyone else to worry about and Daemon well.. Daemon didn't really count as a person to really worry for since he was a sword. On default he was immune to hunger, sleep depervation and of course the weather.

"Tell me," Sir Valdemar said softly, recognizing Lin's look and searching for a way to quell what might possibly be a temper, "do you have any magic at your command? Your brothers were quite powerful, as I recall."

He knew how children could be, despite never having any of his own and never being one himself, and he wanted to do his best to make her visit a happy one.

Nadya stood as she was for several long moments, and beneath the cowl of her cloak, her expression was growing frustrated. Her Sight was being fickle, showing her only glimpses of what needed to be done. She had a bad feeling about this place ...

Finally she looked up and around at the others.

"This circle," she told them in a low tone, motioning to the ring of stones with one hand, "is disrupting the magic ... I can't see anything here. We need to move away from it."

She allowed herself a brief glance at the shrine - or at least, that was what she had assumed it was. She knew now that it was not, and that the legends about it were true. This was a place of evil, a place where things were not as they should be.

"Quickly," she added darkly. She pulled her cloak tightly around her once more and set off, not caring which way she was going, as long as it was directly away from the cursed place.

Gion hurried to catch up to Nadya, taking her hand in his not only for comfort, but so that he could speak with her.

What is it? he asked anxiously. Are you all right?

He was more worried now than he had been before ... he had never seen her like this ...

Lin blinked and thought about it before shaking her head, "I'm not old enough to learn anything yet, except writing.. kind of."

Well it wasn't so much she was old enough to learn, but rather she kept bugging Donovan until he gave in.

"There aren't really a lot of magic I want to learn, unless it's to fly like Mommy."
PostPosted: Sat Aug 25, 2007 7:19 pm

"Oh, does your mother fly?" Sir Valdemar asked, intrigued. "I wondered if she could, with those beautiful wings of hers ... but I hadn't seen her fly, so I didn't know ..."

He trailed off thoughtfully. "There are beings here who can fly as well," he murmured. "They ... keep themselves hidden, when they can ... and reveal themselves only when they must - or when they have the desire to do so."

Indeed, he had seen the Valar many times, and was quite possibly the only being alive in the entire world who could claim that.

"This place is evil," Nadya replied, loud enough so that everyone would be able to hear her, despite the hush of the mist that surrounded them. "We would be best to leave this place as quickly as we can."

As she grew further away from the circle, she could feel her uneasiness leaving her. Her mind slowly grew more settled, and her sight returned bit by bit, giving her pieces of images and whispers of messages.

She stopped abruptly and turned to look back in the direction they had just come from, her eyes wide and staring.

Gion stood behind her, wondering what she was looking at.

Daemon? he asked his friend, half-wishing the sword was sheathed at his side rather than his back so that he could hold the handle and hopefully get some sort of comfort. Do you have any idea what's going on?

"Well... I've never seen her," Lin admitted, "But I'm told she's suppose to be able to. Daddy says her bones are hallow like a bird's, and all my other siblings can fly.. .well the ones with wings.. except Cindy but Cindy's wings are very very small.. .and Jin's..."

She paused a bit and looked at him curiously.

"Why do they hide?"

Yue looked around, he didn't know what she could see, and he didn't see anything though he felt something unusual about this place. Still, there wasn't anything he could put his finger on.

I don't know... do you see anything at her direction?

Daemon asked.

Like... there could be a spirit or something she sees that others cannot. I generally can see spirits and other things like that. It was one of the abilities I was more prone to than seeing the future. Actually it was hard to turn off like the ability to see auras.

Donovan didn't know what Nadya was seeing, but like many in his clan he had worked beside someone from the Mizu clan. If there was anything he learnt was that things you could not see was far more dangerous than what you could.

"Is something wrong?"

Nadya was lost to her vision, and she neither saw nor heard anything around her. Her mind's eye and ear were the only things working now.

At first she had to question whether it was vision or memory that she was seeing: it was the war of thirty five years ago, all over again. Dwarfs, armed and armoured, fighting against elves, groups of hundreds against dozens. The elves had no chance ...

But the terrain was different. Mountains, instead of the Southland forest (as it had been back then). And there were other differences ... it was the dwarfs who were outnumbering the elves, not the other way around. And the sun wasn't shining ... it was misty ...

"Gion?" she murmured, breaking free from her vision and returning to reality. "What is on the other side of those mountains?" She raised one hand and pointed at the mountains just beyond the area they had just left.

I don't see anything ... Gion replied to Daemon cluelessly. But if there are spirits, perhaps I didn't get that ability from you, like I did the auras and threads.

At Nadya's question, Gion followed her finger with his eyes, then reached up and took her hand in his own, turning to thought communication rather than sign language, since he wasn't sure she would see it.

That's where the dwarfs were exiled to, after the war, he replied curiously. Those who remain live there now ... why?

Sir Valdemar smiled sadly at the child's question as he reached for the handle to the library's massive oak door.

"They hide because of their sadness," he replied in a soft murmur, pulling the door open and stepping inside.

Immediately he smelled the familiar smell of books, both old and new, fresh and musty. He knew where every single book in this library was located, and he had written well over three quarters of them himself.

"Now, what was it you wanted to see again," he murmured to himself softly, his eyes moving slowly over the ancient tomes. "Ah ... the original world ... Arda in all its glory." He started down one of the aisles, his eyes scanning the spines of the thick books.

Lin blinked not understanding, because of their saddness, she wondered what that meant. She looked up at all the books around her, she had never been to school, so she hadn't see so many books yet before.

"There's a lot..."

Yue frowned, he couldn't imagine anyone living here, it seemed too barren. He wondered if the people who did the exiling hoeped the drawves would die out or something. Even if the race was very hardly it would be... difficult to live here.
