Right, so I'm thinking I should start a game. Actually no. It would be more accurate to say I'd like to write a game, and release it into this rabid yaoi audience to see what they turn it into. smile

I don't have a title yet, just a few disconnected ideas.

It's a game centered around an "underground" arena where boys are made to fight, and spectators across all the "world" bet on the outcome, every TV on the planet following the action (all different Kinds of "action"). In my head, I call the arena fighters Game Dogs. It amuses me.

It's not a happy place. ...I'll try to spell out the world order quickly without boring anyone to tears; wish me luck. It's almost cyberpunk. The "World" is ruled by a king, but the whole world is apparently an archipelago, each island of which is ruled by one of the king's knights. The knights are loyal to the king to the point that they might have microchips in their heads influencing what they think (ha!). One of these knights ruling an island died, so there's a hole, needs to be filled.

This is where the arena comes in. The King has each of his knights send a random pair of boys to The Arena to participate in a tournament. The winner of this tournament will be granted knighthood, with all the wealth (lots and lots), rights (above the law forever, except for when the king tells you what to do), and responsibilities (hanging peasants, burning villages, occasionally torturing someone. ...What? They don't have any foreign territories to conquer, so they rape and pillage their own territories. Sometimes the knights play wargames. Makes sense to me... okay no, not really. But it sounds like Fun to play it.)

The boys sent to the arena to participate in the tournament seem to be a randomly selected lot. Half of them are designated Fighters; the other half are designated Fighter's Support and are assigned to a random fighter. Sort of like... squires to knights, I suppose. Haven't done any research.

And let the tournament begin.

Regarding the tournament, I'm thinking a player should be a Ref. Now, there aren't any rules to call unless The Ref. feels the need to make any up. The single two obvious rules are fight, and win. But I think we should have a Ref. character just to make things more interesting. This character would decide what kind of fight it would be before the match began. Anything from having the boys duke it out traditionally, boxing each other and the first one who can't get up loses... to having the pair fight naked, with knives.

So characters to play involve anyone who'd be in the arena around the fighters, and the fighters themselves. The drafted fighter helpers, bookies, journalists, coaches, whores invited to their rooms, the pizza delivery guy, the janitorial staff... Okay, I'm out of character type ideas.

Oh, and one loose idea I'm blatantly stealing from The Twelve Kingdoms but twisting around for my own yaoi purposes, there aren't any girls in this "World," because people are born from sacred trees, here. And the trees have only been giving birth to boys for a century.

Sounds like a game. What do you people out there, think? Me, I'm going to bed. Post here or PM me. smile

Would it be in bad taste to put up a rule that said, "If your signature is annoying, keep it out of my thread?" smile

No, nobody get offended, that's not aimed at anyone in particular.
PostPosted: Thu May 25, 2006 12:25 pm

I would understand if you found the signature offensive or overly explicit to be shown in your thread, but if it were from your personal annoyances, I would say no.

Also, as a note: Since Danse is no longer active in the guild, anyone who would still want to join in the RP's he's created, feel free to send me the profile to be accepted and posted.

Sorry for not posting in my own RP Lyre-kun >< the weekends are evil for me. Silly of me to start an RP on the weekend when I know how hectic they can be. Oh well... it's all good now! ^_^

@Aaran: That sounds awesome. =D
If this were a reality *which it's not* technically, it would be girls born because the Y chromosome is currently shrinking and it's thought that eventually men will become extinct. Not that anyone really needs to know that right now. xD

[edit]
@Johann: Well, then, we match, don't we? xD

Yeah... okay. This is totally spamming the list, I know, and I'll take it down after a bit. But I felt the need to fix something.

So I hit up Google about this shrinking y chromosome "issue," and it's all bullshit.

It was an article on NPR's site, however, that was actually useful.

"But David Page of MIT's Whitehead Institute vigorously disagrees. "At the same time that it is continuing to lose genes, it's found some new ways of replenishing itself," Page says.

"Last year, Page and his colleagues reported a finding that brightened the outlook for the future of men: The Y chromosome has been secretly creating backup copies of its most important genes. These are stored in the DNA as mirror images, or palindromes -- which read the same way forwards and backwards. ("Madam, I'm Adam" is a famous example.)

"In Y chromosome palindromes, the first half contains the gene and the second half contains the same information, just in reverse.

"That means that many of the genes on the Y chromosome do occur as pairs. Page says members of these pairs appear to be swapping out or recombining with each other -- allowing the genes to repair themselves when they get damaged.

"Page says this helps explain why these genes have been able to persist despite millions of years of assault from random mutations. And, he says, it means the Y chromosome won't simply keep shrinking away until it disappears altogether."

The whole thing is here.

Now, this bit of "research" took me all of three minutes. So while doing that was not a tremendous inconvenience on my part...

And that article was published in 2004. smile
