ManagerKyoto Kenshin Kiyuraki Well my opponents are usally random, the most commonly used armies are Space Marines, Tau, Tyranids and Chaos. Those are the most common at my local hobby shop. I definatly think that extra warriors are a good Idea and will get those as soon as possible. The Monolith I was definatly thinking about getting. But I will only field a second in a point match of about 3000 points. I like the sound of the Immortals plus the way they look. I am thinking of getting a second monolith for my 1500pt army and just going a lord w/ res orb and 4 squads of 12 warriors. I have seen it done before. Have the warriors as far back as possible and deep strike the two monoliths at opposite sides of teh table. Your foe will not know what hit them. That could possibly work, that could also lead to your downfall. It would all depend on what your opponent has on the field and I think he he might get suspicious on the reason why 2 Monoliths aren't on the field.

two monliths ARE pretty hard to miss. If you've played dawn of war you'll know what i mean those things get pure ownage at the end of winter assault unless your imperial guard in which case Necron+Titan Weapon= Lots of necrons flying everywhere with bits of monlith raining down upon their mangled corpses.

Which is a mistake that most people make. Yes, taking out a monolith is a big thing- but it means that for every shot it takes, your warriors are spared. You can also teleport a unit through the portal on the turn it arrives- it is not a chain teleport.

A fantastic army, this. Great fluff, strong units, the best vehicle in the game, WBB, SCARABS and awesome models to boot. Gotta love the 'crons.

I love taking their army down to 75% and winning. It's not even like their "Best vehincle in the game" can move that much. If you avoid it and kill off their basic troops, you'll take them down easily. surprised

-Mykal Well duh. rolleyes Its just you gotta admit, a lith being cheaper than a LR (and it normally tmakes it points back) is a bit annoying, and I think every race is a litte envious of the fact that thier vehicles dont have 'living metal' biggrin I know I am. xd

Handy if you want to ignore most glancing hit effects and repair your building if it loses a weapon or does get immobilised. Just a thought though.

-Mykal Yeah, but don't forget the moral victory part of this. Sure, you COULD ignore the Monolith. But it's a freaking Monolith! It feels so good to take it down! C'mon, shoot at it, you know you want to! I actually played this one guy, everyone in the store was telling him to ignore the Monolith and fire on my Warriors. By the end of the game I had taken minimal casualties and the Monolith was still standing.

Tau can't really eliminate 75% of your Necrons with shooting, so they'll try and take out what can't WBB, like entire units of Destroyers and Monoliths.

Yeah, I always ignore the monolith unless I have no choice. even with anti tank weapons the thing is one tough nut to crack!

Nuclearwinter Yeah, I always ignore the monolith unless I have no choice. even with anti tank weapons the thing is one tough nut to crack! Well, with Tau, cracking it isn't particularly hard. Barring some bad luck, It shouldn't take more than two Broadside salvos to bring it down, and the loss of a 'lith drops Necron mobility alot.

Which is why deep striking one's Monolith is such a valuable asset. Keep it in reserve, as well as a unit of warriors(If possible) and have fun when it does hit the board. Gauss Flux Arcs and some flayer shots into the heart of a Tau force can cause quite a bit of harm.
Not that this strategy isn't without it's faults. A bad scatter roll could ruin everything, not to mention the generally unpredictable nature reserves have to begin with.

Ah ha, that is where you are wrong! Oh, foolish mortals! The Monolith's living metal rule states the following- Necron Codex: Monolith- Living Metal Any weapon attacking the Monolith will roll for armour penetration using it's unaugmented strength and a single D6 no matter what. So that means the following- Bright Lances need 6's not 4+ to damage it. Anything that doubles your strength or adds to it (ie powerfists, tankhunters) DO NOTHING. If your character is S5 with a powerfist, he is still S5 when assulting the Monolith. The best weapon for taking down a Monolith is the Eldar Wraithcannon and D-Cannon since it is roll to hit and then 3 or 4 for glancing, 5 or 6 for penetrating. For assulting a Monolith- any model that is base strength ten (ie Wraithlord, Carnifex) Ordnance weapons still get their 2D6 though.
