Feeling left out with all this mellophone talk...

So, what I'm wondering is if anyone knows what a triple Horn costs. It's just something I'm curious about since I saw one at band camp this summer.

Time to brag about my mellophone section: there are only two of them, but they almost never fail to out play all ten trumpets and the rest of the band (except our piccolo who plays too loud). They are the awesomeist people I know (yes, sadly, I am not one of them).
That sounds like me and my section leader. We outplayed the brass line in one of our games. We can also consistently outplay 11 saxes.

Woot, go horns! (/mellophones :3) I'm currently 4th chair in symphonic, but we haven't had chair tryouts yet. It's by year then alphabetical right now (Freshman with back-of-alphabet last name) x3

We just carry over our chair rankings until we test again in sym season.

I might start playing the French horn this year. I've been playing the flute for 3 whole years now and need to broaden my horizon. ^.^ Plus, we haven't had a French horn player for 2 years running now! XDD I plan to be here quite a bit if I do start playing for tips and stuff. =S I've never played anything quite like the French horn. My friend is taking up the oboe this year too so I won't be the only 8th grader in the beginning band lol. And I am also playing my flute in advanced band. Please don't bomb on me for saying that I play flute. XP From what your saying, I'm totally lost. My friend that is starting the oboe plays the clarinet rofl! But, whats trail? And in our band, the trumpets get all the attention because our band director is a trumpet player. XP

The hardest thing I find that a woodwind player might overlook are partialls or whatever you call them.
Like, an F and an A can be fingered open on a Bb horn, so if you aren't careful, you'll hit As intead of Fs or the other way around.
I've been playing for a year and they're still the bane of my existence.

what I'm confoosed now.

I was hoping we would do a 007 theme this year like everyone thought but apparently our BD couldn't find the drill he wanted for it
I meant what do you mean, find the drill? Do you already have pre-made drill or something?
I was making reference to the post above me. I think Mr. A was trying to find it premade but I'm not sure.

Ohh. smile

I've been playing for just over two months and partials don't give me any problems. Work on lip slurs every day, and it'll get easier. smile

stare We always outplay out saxes. Because there's like..Two of them. And we get yelled at to back off, and then yelled at because we're not playing loud enough, stare stare stare But yesterday, during our music run through, we were amazing. We sounded so good and in tune and the blend and tambre from everyone was amazing. heart

I started playing the french horn last week. Its a B flat, or a B, gosh I have no idea. XP There is only one other french horn player and its a fifth grader who I've never met. I'm in eight grade and I play the flute in advanced band, and starting on tuesday I'll be playing the french horn in begining, AND advanced band! gonk My band conductor just handed me the french horn and said practice. =S Thank goodness there was a CD that came with the book I got for it, I had no idea what it was suppost to sound like! I've played it only 4 times and I already have memorized 6 key thingies. I can play like 7 songs including ones like, twinkle twinkle little stare( xd ), row row row your boat, and when the saints go marching in. XP I didn't even know how to make noise out of that blasted instrument! I heard that going from woodwind to brass is extreemly hard, I guess I'm transitiononing very well. XP I'll find out tuesday lol!
@Tarashia: I have no idea what you just said. =S I know nothing about the french horn. DX

Not only do my mellos have amazing parties, we're just amazing in general. We're by far the best section in band playing and marching wise, and besides that, we're just cool. smile cool

In our band we are the 2nd most powerful section cause I'm quartermaster and my section leader is one rank below the drum majors. Besides that we don't have much to do with each other. If we are there we're there if we're not there will be one mello marcher

The only section that could be considered more powerful than us are the baritones. But only because they constantly overblow and their tone is no where near ours.

I've been playing the french horn for less than a week now and can play a full scale and play several songs just by knowing what the notes sound like... Is that normal? sweatdrop I'm afraid I'm learning too fast. =K I really don't want to go to the advanced band with my french horn in the middle of the year. That would totally suck as I play the flute in advanced band. -.-

My band director would probably say something like "You were ment for the French Horn".
Also because he wants more peopkle to play horn xD

I say keep up the good work, because you're doing awesome!

Edit:
It's up to you wich instrument you play in advanced band...
I think if you ask you might be able to stay in begginer band on your horn

Yah I think I'll ask if I can stay in begining band with my french horn. I'd like to stick to the flute in advanced, worse case would be that he might try to get me to play both in advanced band and the horn in begining band. XP We don't have a french horn in advanced band but we have an F french horn in begining.

gonk He wants me to play the french horn in begining band but practice advanced band songs too so that I can play with the advanced and the begining bands at the concertes! sweatdrop Wish me luck. XP I have to keep two instruments and scales totally seperate. -.- Shouldn't be too hard, been playing one instument for 3 years now.
