robin_morbid I'm like...5 steps away from beating this game...and I just don't feel like it right now...I feel like...well I won the war,why keep going? man...jerk took the rune...man...what a jerk... Yeah, I got that far and felt the same exact way (I started over because I didn't train as many of my fighters to have a good team of 3 and I didn't recruit a lot of people). I was so addicted up until Gizel's death. I didn't even feel like continuing on afterwards. One postive thing I'll add to this game as it's not as big of a headache to start over as it was in Suikoden III. I HATED playing it a second time. stressed I'm actually enjoying this a second time. I feel some scenes I didn't understand at first make more sense now. I also love the antagonists in Suikoden V. The Barows family add humor and I love the Godwin's cunning behavior. I don't know if I love them enough to call them my favorite antagonists in Suikoden overall, but definately in my top 3 faves. I also have never laughed as hard on any other Suikoden game as I have on V. My all-time favorite scene was when you woke up one morning in the inn in Stormfist after rescuing Marina and Lyon comes in with a bandage over her eye. "Well, I tried to wake up Lady Sialeeds and..." rofl Yeah, I think everyone can tell I think this game was one of my favorite of the series.

Sialeeds and Marscal ruined the whole ******** game.
They made it a full 30 hours longer than it should've been. Even more than that if you go all out. I hate Sialeeds, but the whole Papi Godwin thing just drove me nuts. He made me trek through some ugly dungeon with some SERIOUS loading time problems, made me fight three different bosses with three different parties, knowing full well I've only used, like, 6 characters TOPS, at least recently, let alone Zweig and s**t, and then to top it all off, made me kill some man-ho and then directly afterwards fight a giant moth and two sexually-related molecules.
And then the ending, if you want to call it an ending, I thought I was going to shoot myself in the head with a non-projectile or something. Beating video games usually makes me shed a tear or two, but I wanted to cry buckets at the sheer lameness, stupidity (Zahak and Alenia, WTF?!), and the total lack of gayness that for the Suikoden series is well known.
Ruined my ******** Tuesday, those two.

I agree with the Marscal part, disagree with Sialeeds. I loved Sialeeds. She was witty, intelligent, and I loved how her flaws showed. I was actually interested in learning why she "betrayed" us and I thought her final scene was quite touching, as it shows she was loyal in her own way. She really didn't make the game longer. Even if she didn't betray you, the game wouldn't have ended there anyway. Why would the game end with Godwin still in the Sun Palace.
If there was anyone I truly hated in this game, It was the non-humans (with the exception of a few). They were so ******** racist. scream It wasn't just the "human" comments, as other non-humans in previous Suikoden series have said it too. It was just their overall rudeness. I just had the first scene with Urda, and I have never wanted to slap a Suikoden Character more than I did with her. She showed no interest in understanding the situation unless it was appealing to her. Not only that, but she made such a big deal with expressing the fact that I was escorting her to Lunas, then had the audacity to say I'm lacking manners for not saying thank you? If it was up to me, I would have helped Nether Gate kill them all.

Chikuu Sialeeds[...]ruined the whole ******** game. Much like Jowy before her. For a fresh and original RPG series, they have an awful lot of backstabbing best friends/relatives. (Would it kill writers to have your best friend STAY your best friend? Obviously your relationship wasn't as deep as you thought if one of you skips off to the evil villain at the drop of a hat. If anyone can point me in the direction of an RPG series (besides "Tales of") where you stay friends, please let me know. D: ) Chikuu He made me trek through some ugly dungeon with some SERIOUS loading time problems, made me fight three different bosses with three different parties, knowing full well I've only used, like, 6 characters TOPS, at least recently, let alone Zweig and s**t, and then to top it all off, made me kill some man-ho and then directly afterwards fight a giant moth and two sexually-related molecules. I get the feeling they were trying to capture what made Suikoden II The Best Game Ever when they made S5. But in doing so, forgot what made S2 awesome and decided to copy over all of the most ******** annoying parts of the game. Like the Luca Blight battle. And that Dolph fight was pointless and unmemorable, just like the character. Hell, I actually had no idea who you were talking about for like five minutes. And I can recite how to recruit almost all of the Stars of Destiny from S1, 3, and 4. Just goes to show. (Although he is forgiven somewhat, because cravats are sexy.) They could have done so much more with the Nether Gate guys. Oboro and Shigure have pretty neat stories, but nothing too interesting, I think. But Sagiri- that is tragic. It honestly warmed my heart a little bit when I read that she doesn't smile so much anymore. Chikuu And then the ending, if you want to call it an ending, I thought I was going to shoot myself in the head with a non-projectile or something. Beating video games usually makes me shed a tear or two, but I wanted to cry buckets at the sheer lameness, stupidity (Zahak and Alenia, WTF?!), and the total lack of gayness that for the Suikoden series is well known. Oh God, same. I was crying until he pulled Lyon out of the bubble. I think it was a combination of the graphics (I adore our low-keyness, but that scene should've been in FMV) and the pure cheesiness of the scene. Ferid (who should've lived, but that's a different gripe), Arshtat, and Sialeeds silently congratualting him was sweet. The other four, not so much. "Aw, I'm so happy you killed us all and stopped our plans for conquest! <3!" Then there's Good Ending A and B. I went for A, because staying to help with the rebuilding effort was in-character for Prince. But it wasn't fulfilling at all. The Leave ending was more fulfilling, but made no sense characterwise. I think the 107 Stars ending would be the best, from what I've heard, but poor Lyon has to die for that, and I just love her too much. I don't think I can say anymore about Urda than AALU has. What a jerk.

Yeah, the apparent racism in this game was annoying...if I had to sit through one more scene where someone said "not bad for a human" I was going to go nether gate on the disc and just break it. its like konami just got lazy and made characters to recruit with no actual relevance to the game.
Another thing that got to me in this was recruiting in general...the game wouldn't have dragged so long if we didn't have to help people, then be like "hey join me?" and then they're just like...."yeah...no." for whatever bullshit reason...this game was way too long, for some parts I guess it was worth it but as a whole it was kind of a waste of money. Hopefully the next game won't suck so bad.

Oh shoot, I can't for the life of me remember his/her name, but there was a poster here who wonderfully summed up the differences between S4 and S5 recruiting:
S4:
Player: Join me! Recruit: No! Player: Join me! Recruit: Okay! *joins*
S5:
Player: Join me! Recruit: *goes on a tirade* Player: ******** ME, YOU'RE NOT WORTH IT. Recruit: *joins*

Part of me likes the effort it takes to recruit characters, part of me doesn't. I remember trying to recruit Jeane. She said if I took her to the big hole, she'd join...she said nothing about going to a ruin in the big hole. If I knew that, I would have taken my low leveled Cornelio, elves, and Sialeeds out of my party. gonk
I also wish some of the runes were able to un-equip some of the runes. It wasn't as bad as S3 in that perspective, but it was annoying. Josephine and Zegai were two of my favorites. It was a shame that their permanent runes ruined them from being that much better. Also, if Zweig was so important, couldn't he have been made, I don't know, better? I always put him in reserve when he was required, but in the end, I couldn't do that. sweatdrop I don't even know what he was. Was he a magician? Was he a fighter? Either way, he sucked. xp Miakis, Zerase, Georg or Kyle should have been in charge of the third party.
