Barry: 10/200Okay so hope was good but practicality was a thing too. Kidana was mentioning that while Cami shot and aimed again, a little too quickly, and almost shot the object of her affections. "Sorry!! I got distracted when your butt went up!" At least she was honest? Quote: HP: 42/50 Charge: 3/3 DMG: (-1+3)=2*2= 4Sun Hunter Bonus: +3 Attack Ranged Bonus: x Attacks Spitter w/ no autodmg

It was as they hit the entrance of the ice rink that the sprinklers came on, turning the glow of their weapons vaguer, more spread out and fuzzy. Lukas cursed, quietly, and it was swallowed by the rain, so he cursed again, more loudly -- easing in closer to stand next to Gretchen, to make sure he wouldn't lose them, now. He half-turned in place, to make sure there were no monsters about to jump them. "Is there shelter? Somewhere we can hide?" they could nudge the girl into the relative safety of the ice rink, and then figure out where to go. "Join the larger party, maybe?"

Barry:0/200Watch her what now? Maebe looked back at her a** in worry for a single second - okay, the rain hadn't completely exposed her just yet. She knew she had to get down soon, or risk getting an arrow to the knee. She also knew the sprinklers had done nothing to dampen her mood, and she was just as charged up as she'd ever been. She kissed Thaw's prongs (and then immediately regretted it, zombie gunk, ew) before turning him around and diving straight through the monster's head. It bucked, and her feet left the ground to fly as she held on to the trident, and rode it's angry wail. She'd hit a nerve, that time - or maybe several nerves. Did giant zombies have nerves? She wasn't a scientist, and didn't care to find out. The trident was pulled out of the hole she'd made, and she ran for it. At the edge of one of it's faces, she jumped, curling into herself in mid-air until she landed in a roll on the floor. When the world stopped spinning, she uncurled and sat there, disoriented. There was a piece of zombie still stuck to Thaw's prong. She saw it and screamed, shaking vigorously to get it off. Maebe HP: 36/60 Damage: 10 Charge: 3/3 Fear1: used Target: BARRY GDIQuote: Intermediate Moon: +2 def + 10 extra HP -Melee weapons are super effective against ARMOURED type infected, do double damage on this type

< Best to heal up before you leap into the fray pup. Doesn't look like that thing is going to break through the defence line anytime soon. > Niflheim chimed in as well.
Looking from the worried look that Isaac was giving her to the huge infected creature that was being held at bay by the other hunters, Nellie swept her gaze back to the Sun, looking almost as if she was about to protest against the options offered before she eventually relented, albeit reluctantly, with a small nod. Both Isaac and Niflheim had a point there. They weren't going to be anymore useful if they looked and felt as if they were about to drop from exhaustion and injuries.
"Isaac has a point there. Gonna be more of a burden to the others if Nellie can't hold her own. Is Isaac feeling okie though?"

Trust probably should have extended to everything he told her in this moment, and Mimsy sincerely wanted to both trust and believe him when he assured her that they would be okay. But fear counteracted this so freely that she was left with only a little scrap of hope alone, stitched to the similarly small shred that hope would be enough. "Yes. Okay," she conceded, moving carefully alongside him as he began to lead their bundle of a group along. This seemed potentially positive for just a few short moments, which was as long as she was able to move in an unfocused haze - as soon as Alice cried out, her head snapped up towards Robert, eyes searching for an explanation for what he'd done. The ending chime of the announcement was playing, and Robert was speaking with a new authority, so she assumed it must have had something to do with the content of Rep's update. What had he said that made Robert accidentally hurt her? What could possibly have been that bad? She chewed her lip as she freed one arm from their tangle of comfort to reach for her phone. This was already beginning its decline, and if she couldn't preserve this memory in a bottle, she could save it like this. There wasn't any sound of a shutter or noticeable flash of light to make her strangely-timed selfie particularly noticeable, but she could see its existence on the screen, and that brought a different kind of comfort. Once she'd saved it--three times--she quietly opened her messages and began to write. lizbot To: America We have resolved the antidote from Rep may be a necessary risk. Will not leave her unattended, as advised. I promise further updates. Baneful To: Rep What are your orders for the civilians? Please. Seconds after her last press of the 'send' button, Rep's voice returned, warning of rain. This was momentarily perplexing as she briefly wondered how it could rain indoors - then her mind made the connection with the thousands of times she'd had to identify the locations of emergency sprinklers during lab work, and she wrenched herself out of Robert's hold and pulled away from him. "Keep her dry. Keep it off of her," she insisted, stripping out of her coat in one quick motion and blanketing Alice with it in the next. As the stagnant water began its cascade from the ceiling, she swept the beam of the flashlight across their surroundings, breathing a loudly audible sigh of relief at the sight of an overturned food court table and the collapsed umbrella through the middle of it. "I am retrieving that." Her voice was raised to near shouting despite being right night to him, and she indicated what 'that' meant by shaking the light at it. In the simulated strobe of light, the umbrella then looked far too much like an exciting party umbrella for this situation. "I am retrieving that and I will return immediately and keep her dry."

She let out a sharp squeal at the pinch to her a**; Otto's general demeanor did not offender her. In fact, she was used to his attitude. It was one of the things about him that appealed to her. "Yes," Sasha looped her arm through Otto's arm, handling Nona with her free hand. "Lead the way."

Watching Maebe take down the creature was rather...stirring. For a moment she worried as the blonde was tossed to roll along the hard, wet mall floor but Maebe looked alright. No doubt one of the medics was going to be over there in a minute to do a spot-check on the hero of the hour which gave Camille time to put into action a particularly smooth move.
Marching into one of the nearby stores she found a rack of umbrellas. They were the great ones that were a pain in the a** to deal with if you had to go anywhere in public because they were massive and unwieldy. Unfolding one, the other tucked under her arm, Kidana strapped along her back, she walked out over to Maebe.
The Moon intermediate would have noticed almost immediately when the water stopped raining down onto her head. Crouching down next to her was Cami, pressing the handle into the woman's hand. Lips lightly touched Maebe's cheek before she retreated, opening the second umbrella to keep herself as dry as possible. "Good job."

Barry, or rather the barricade demolition type infected remained true to its classification throughout combat, singularly focused on tearing down everything that the defenders had put up, intent on clearing the way for the other infected to attack, it hinted at some greater controlling force, some intelligence which had taken affront to their entrenching themselves here. It's long tusk like teeth seemed specially designed to gain leverage beneath wood and railings.
When the sprinklers started it had hissed in confusion initially but quickly habituated, ignoring all attempts to deter it from it's course, at least initially.
Finally, after persistent assault the group seemed to be gaining traction and the beast's pace was wearing down. When Thaw's prongs drove deeply into its flesh, the hulking creature let out a bellow of pain and rage. The last of the hail of blows from the defenders had connected with it, seeming to finally get through its thick hide sufficiently to rattle it. It roared its defiance at those shielding the barricades from its assaults, almost accusingly, tail lashing behind it as its many limbs sought for purchase to right itself from the stumble. The roar became a shrill wail of fury which rattled the windows and it turned, weight hammering out a drumbeat on the floor as with enormous loping strides it charged away. In a single effortless leap it cleared the distance to the second floor and vanished completely into the darkness.
There was a low rumble beneath and the mall shook as if in a very slight earthquake and then everything was - for the moment - still again except from the steady hissing of the sprinklers.

Nothing Yet Text to: Mimsy From: Rep My orders are to neutralise this situation by any means necessary. The civilians are to likewise be neutralised or cured. I do not make the decisions, I execute my orders, please do not become embroiled in trying to prevent me from carrying these out, thank you.

Startled by the rumble, Otto arrived at the base camp with Sasha on his arm. The place looked as if a bomb had gone off. Hunters were standing about looking battle worn. The defences are a mess. She was seconds from just lying down out of sheer exhaustion when the adrenaline ran out. Before she could give up, she realized the sprinkler rain had stopped, and looked up to see the dark shadow of an umbrella looming over her. She felt the kiss on her cheek, and wrapped her hand around the umbrella handle with a slow wonder. "Thanks." She muttered out, a quirked smile on her face. She doubted Cami was completely happy, yet. But she was warm, and being nice to her, and didn't hate her at all. There was hope at the end of a very long, very painful tunnel. She was just glad the three of them were actually walking down it, instead of stuck in the dark. She stood up and twirled the umbrella, grinning up at it stupidly. This was exactly what she'd needed.

Was Mimsy.. taking a picture? Robert's face in the first of three pictures was open mouthed confusion, as he stared at his wife in wonder. The third had already begun transforming, which meant he was in a state of transition that had his face looking goofy and ill-formed. On the third click, he was smiling. It was a wistful thing, filled with both regret and adoration. She was trying to save this moment, and it was the smartest choice she could have made. It was the only way they were going to survive, if things went wrong. And things were going wrong. Fast. He leaned in and brushed his face against her cheek, breathing her in even as she texted furiously. He couldn't help but fall in love with her, even now. There would never be a time when he wouldn't be in the process of falling. She was gone before he could process why, and he felt the splatter of water before Alice could get wet. His whole body hunched over her until Mimsy came, covering the girl in his arms and holding her close, warm and dry, in his arm. "Yes, dear." He whispered, a little too happy to comply - and a little too infatuated to control. He watched her take charge of the moment, and the thought came unbidden and unwelcome, but inevitable. She would have made a wonderful mom.

A peal of laughter rang out at Otto's disgruntled tone, and Sasha leaned in to rest her chin on his shoulder. "Do you want to fight it now," she trilled softly, "or shall we watch them make a mess of things for a while longer?"

Giselle Nesbitt's simple yet awkward life changed that day. It seemed like a dream when she'd just been eating Cinnabuns with her best friend. Then... when exactly did things go so wrong? It could have been something out of a movie. Or a book. Anything but real life. It couldn't be true. She must be dreaming. "Please.. please don't make me go out there..." She sobbed under her breath, cowering behind Conner, clutching the fabric of his clothing at his back. "I wanna hide... I wanna hide..." Her voice squeaked, and tears streaked and stained her pale cheeks. Her ginger, unruly hair, once tucked neatly in a braided bun, hung awkwardly from the pins that once held it in place. Her yellow framed glasses were dirty, her Ugg boots covered in things she didn't want to think about. "I'm scared... what's going on..."

Just as she'd said, Mimsy moved to collect the umbrella, her hasty steps following the direct line between Point A (Robert, Alice) and Point B (umbrella). With such focus on her goal, she had no difficulty stepping and hopping over the obstacles in her way, a strong contrast to her more typical approach. When not distracted by fixation, every tiny object and detour was usually accounted for with such tremendous care, creating a tendency to move towards them even when they could have been avoided. This wasn't the time to hesitate or stumble or trip over the tiniest of details, not the time to trap herself within an inescapable maze of worst-case what-ifs. Some part of her seemed to have finally realized that, even if didn't quite make it into her conscious thoughts. When she returned she was smiling, her damp hair falling in loose waves around her shoulders, its weight unraveling her braids without any need for assistance. The smile was one of related triumph - she'd had a clever idea as she opened the umbrella, and by using her hair elastics to attach the flashlight midway up the sturdy wooden handle, the bright beam of light had been directed upward into the curve of their little canopy. It refracted off of the surface, illuminating their closely condensed group of three, as well as the area a few feet in every direction until it began to fade into darkness. "I came back just as I said and look," she chirped, proudly protecting them from the sprinklers. "It is like our own sunlight among the rain. Just for you."
