It wasn't that hard to spot her friends in the dining hall. Granted, it wasn't yet a meal hour, so that had a lot to do with it. Slowing her steps, and making sure that Ai was still with her, Miyuki made her way to the trio at one of the tables.
"Hey," Miyuki waved at them as she made her way to their table.
She waited to see if they were eating or not before deciding if she should sit or not. If they were eating, then they would be in the dining room for a small while at least.

"Hi!" River greeted Miyuki enthusiastically. "Hey, we just sat down - do you want to get something to eat or drink? I'm thinking maybe just a drink, but Jess wants something more."
"I could go for a slice of cake," Aranxia murmured, her dark eyes scanning the tables around them to see from what other people were eating what was available to them. "It looks like strawberry ..."
"I was thinking a sandwich or something," Jess added, looking thoughtful, "with something cold to drink to wash it down ..."

"No thanks," Miyuki replied as she took a seat.
Well that and she didn't have anything to pay with, and she didn't want to trouble anyone with that. Carefully, she let Ai onto the floor.

River flagged down a waiter and the three of them gave their orders.
"Add them to our rooms," River instructed the waiter before he disappeared on them.
The man bowed his head. "Of course. Your food will be ready shortly." And he turned and headed off.
"So Miyuki, what's it like here?" River asked the moment the waiter had gone, turning to her friend and looking at her excitedly. "It's different from anywhere else we've been, I can tell that much."

Miyuki smiled at that as she thought back on it. She did remember a great deal from when she was a child (she hadn't been too young to remember), but she knew she would probably see things differently now.
"It's busy here with all goods that come through the city," Miyuki replied, "Common Tongue is used often because of trade, pretty much everyone knows it, and you'll see some things you might not have seen before because it can be imported using the ships."
Though for the life of her she couldn't remember everything, but she knew using the river some things could be exported and imported from pretty far away.
"I don't know much about the people, but that's because when I was really little I still stayed a lot with my parents, and it's been a long time."

"Then we can have a lot of fun exploring," River beamed, not at all put off by Miyuki's vague information. "Mama says as long as we're all together, there's no reason why we can't explore the city on our own. I bet there will be loads to see!"
"And to learn," Aranxia added quietly with a smile.

Miyuki nodded with Aranxia on that account, "Plenty to learn, I think I was too little back then to really observe everything that was going on."
She had after all, only began writing her reports after visiting Amon Darthir, and even looking back on her old ones she wasn't really quite satisfied with it. Especially not after her uncle had asked her what was the best thing about each country in the Four Lands.

"And looking at a child is different from looking as an adult," Aranxia added. "And I know, none of us are adults yet, but we're getting close. One more year, right, River?"
"Half," River grinned back at Aranxia. "Which you ought to know very well."
Aranxia giggled.

Miyuki chuckled as she looked between Jess and River. She had a feeling River was keeping close count.
"Can't wait?" she asked her friend.

"In a way," River admitted. "Though I'll be more excited when Jess is an adult, too."
Jess's already red face turned a brighter shade of red under his sunburn. "It'll be close to two years for me," he murmured in embarrassment. "From what I understand, that will probably be before we return from our trip ..."
He looked over at River and put one hand on hers. "I still need to find a profession," he said in a tone that indicated it was something he had said to her before.

Miyuki was surprised, she had thought Jess would have followed in his father's footsteps but that clearly wasn't going to be the case.
"Maybe you'll find something that will inspire you on the trip," she suggested, "That's what I'm hoping it will do that for me."
It wasn't that she felt the same sort of urgency as Jess probably did, but she was aware she could grow again in the next couple of months. Maybe even becoming an adult at the same time as River. She wanted to be able to do something that was just as interesting (even if she didn't know just what it might be).

"I still say you should be a tanner like your father," River shrugged. "But Miyuki is right, who knows what we're going to find on this trip?"
"I just don't think that would be enough," Jess sighed, propping his head up on one hand. "There are already three tanners in the city."
"Who says you have to stay there?" It was Aranxia, surprisingly, who made the suggestion. "From what I understand there are no tanners in the Borderlands ... are there?" She looked at River.
River stared at Aranxia, open-mouthed. "I never thought of that!" she exclaimed.

"That's a great idea actually, especially since the Ranch trains and sells horses now as their main method of income. Between the horses, the fighters and just people who need leather goods, there would always be someone who needs something," Miyuki commented.
She knew that leather was already made, but not by a professional tanner. Jess could also sell horse gear to whoever also wanted to buy the horses, or sell them to go along with the horses....

Jess blinked in surprise and was quiet for a moment as he considered the idea.
"That ... would work," he agreed. "It's near enough that my parents could visit ... they would like that ... I don't think I'd be part of the tanner's guild, though, since the Borderlands aren't really an economic center ..."
"But you would be busy, and we would be quite comfortable, I think," River grinned, her eyes sparkling brightly.
Jess blushed and smiled gently. "Yes ... we would be."

Miyuki grinned watching the two, it was good that they had that figured out. At least it sounded like Jess was open to the idea.
"Another possible house for the Borderlands," Miyuki grinned.
She knew that the place had grown since her mother was a child.
