Riley's eyes flickered to Jericho, doubt flaring within them. For how long, I wonder? She blurted out before rolling her eyes at her own candor.
I just. Her entire body tensed as she tried, desperately, to put her thoughts into words - and failed utterly. A frustrated sigh was all that left her instead.
At a time like this, frustrated and tense, she knew the first thing she would do is seek the comfort Jericho was willing to offer. But she remained quite stonily in her seat, unmoving. She had come to rely on the relationships that had built around her - and suddenly, it all seemed like a mistake.

Her words took Jericho back some, and the doubt in her eyes even.. hurt a bit. Now he really had to wonder what was going on. Did something happen with Malodore? No. It couldn't be. She would be .. less angry and more distraught if it had been the Plague Doctor.
Glancing away for the moment, he sat there in silence, trying to think of something.

Another pause.

Even in the state of near panic she'd worked herself into, Jericho's oaths made her heart seize and quicken. It almost wasn't fair, that he had but to remind her of their bond to soothe her fears. There was no actual possibility that Jericho would up and walk away forever, when the dragonrider bond was accounted for.
What a cheater.
She slumped visibly, tilting to drop against his side. Fine. You've got me. You can't walk away from me. But-
Jericho wasn't the only one she was worried about.
She looked up at him with a slit gaze, a touch of amusement finally filtering through. Ah, Jericho. Careful, the things you say. You don't make deals with demons. They never turn out well. She chuckled weakly.

Seeing her relax, Jericho smiled softly but he was still worried about her. Whatever had happened, it must have shaken her pretty hard. He patted her lightly as she leaned against him.
"Oh I know," he said out loud this time around, "How else do you think I've managed to stay unmarked thus far? I wouldn't use those words unless I meant it."
The dragon glanced down at her as he said this.

Christof creeped back into the fitness booth, eyes scouring for his Mistress to see if he had been missed...
... from what he found, apparently not. Clutching the freshly won prizes to his chest, he shuffled them into his pockets instead as he made his way around the corner of the booth, eyes narrowing as he watched her practically nuzzling the dragon as they both "spoke"- he could only hear what Jericho said, though, and crouched to try to piece together what they could possibly be discussing. Was he in trouble? Had something happened while he had abandoned his post?? He KNEW he shouldn't have gone wandering! Stupid, stupid Igor! The conversation seemed to have gone casual, though, but even so the hunchback lurked, heart racing as he watched and listened from behind a stack of boxes.

It took a few seconds for that to sink in.
When it did, Riley rose her head off of the perch it had been resting on against Jericho. She turned her head slowly, and her gaze pierced as it searched for some kind of assurance. His eyes seemed very confident about what he was saying, but she had to wonder..
She rested her hand on his chest, the palm pressing down gently. If anything, she knew she wanted to mark Jericho. There was no part of her that worried he'd up and leave one day, but the demon within demanded proof. Physical, tangible proof. That was what he was offering.
Who was she to turn that away?
Are you sure?

Jericho glanced down at her hand on his chest before making eye contact once more. After a moment or so, he nodded.
"If that's what it'll take to convince you.. then I'd gladly oblige. It won't change anything.. It'd just be another reminder," he said before holding his hand out. As determined as he was, he wasn't too certain what to expect of this, "And I trust you enough to do so.."

Riley's hand slowly dropped from Jericho's chest, and she beamed up at him. He had all but destroyed her foul mood.
Not here. She whispered quietly, as if anyone could hear her. I do not mark in public. After Open House.
Then she leaned back into him, and nuzzled. Yes, this was turning out to be a good day, after all.

At that, Jericho let his hand dropped, nodding to her. That was fine with him. Though, a part of him was now a little antsy because of it. While he knew it would be alright, there was just still that slight factor of the unknown. Smiling at Riley, just let out a sort of content sigh while relaxing a little more.
"Did you manage to get anything else interesting from the other booths?" he asked, switching to a lighter topic in the meantime, "I ended up with one of those Nyan cat things."

Chitter chatter chitter chatter chitter chatter and groping and fondling and pawing and petting... Christof couldn't make sense of what was being talked about, but he knew what he saw. Did Malodore know how much she fawned over this other boil? Did it even care? Did the three of them... His stomach churned as his grip on the box he hid behind tightened, and it creaked on it's precarious perch before suddenly crashing down. He jumped, eyes wide with horror as the supply of brains he had managed after such great struggle to obtain for his Mistress only to be refused and discarded and tucked away for safe keeping went splattering across the ground between them, and the hunchback froze.
With an anxious whine, he turned, ready to run as fast as he could before the inevitable tongue-lashing (brain lashing?) would more than likely occur as it had with Kallos.

Riley's contentment was not due to last very long. At the mention of the Nyancats, she was immediately reminded of why she'd been upset in the first place. She'd even given him one.. her body tensed for a moment, and without thinking she looked over Jericho's shoulder to sneak a peek at the Bruteball Booth.
Nope. Not there.
With a deep sigh, she nodded in response. I won three or four of them. And some cupcakes. She didn't sound very happy about the haul, even though she'd been cleaning up over at that booth.
Then she smelled it. She smelled it before she heard it.
Riley's head snapped up to stare, in awe, at the splatters of brain matter strewn across the grass in front of her. She would have been a little more surprised at Christof's presence, had her hunger not taken precedence over all other mental functions.
Her claws bent in and out, as she stared at the mess. So many brains, wasted.. the smell hung thick in the air, taunting her. You could have eaten us, they said. But now we are nothing but a mess on the floor.
A low, predatorial growl emitted from her publicly.

Hearing the crash, Jericho turned around just in time to see the Igor retreating. There was also a mess of brains on the ground now. Frowning, he stared at the mashed brains before pausing as he heard a low growl emit from Riley.
Oh right. She likely hadn't eaten anything since her sugar rush.
Getting up from his seat, he went over towards the crates to try and see if there were any brains that weren't on the platter. Surely there was at least one... he could have sworn that he saw several earlier on upon returning to the booth.
At least he hoped this was the case.

Christof's face was pale in patches, eyes wide with terror, and had he been able, his mouth would have been opening and closing incoherently. Instead, he managed to scramble some semblance of coherent thought into: I'm so sorry Mistress...! If she had just eaten them earlier... they wouldn't have gotten so defrosted and soft in the afternoon gloom and squished so and... but.. but he had *tried* right? I was just...!

Glancing at Christof briefly, Jericho just continued to see if there were any brains left in tact.
It didn't take too long before the dragon managed to locate a nice one that wasn't damaged at all. Letting out a sight of relief, he straightened up and walked over towards Riley.
"Found one. Not sure if it's enough for you but it might hold you over for now."

While grateful for Jericho's quick thinking and the luck of finding an intact brain, it was not her hunger that had her growling dangerously.
It was the waste.
All those brains..
Splattered..
Spoiled..
Riley plucked the brain from Jericho's hands, and held it behind herself. The tentacles wrapped around it, carrying it off, and all of her tentacles formed a loose ball around it as they went to town.
It was a bit of a disturbing sound. She wasn't worried about being polite right now. She was still staring at the waste.
Thank you Jericho. She murmured quietly. Her eyes flickered to Christof, tilting her head as he apologized - was this his fault?! - before darkening slightly.
She had bigger things to worry about than Christof making another mess.
Clean it up. She hissed at Christof sharply.
